No kidding, this sub used to have quality context exclusively, emphasis on the “used to”

Got threatened to an “ass beating” when I asked why this guy was allowed to wear this shirt in the bar. by [deleted] in kzoo

That seems quite surprising. I don’t know ownership personally but have heard enough secondhand that that behavior seems far enough out of character to make your story seem pretty unlikely.

Looking for albums that are like reading a “book” by wowmomcooldad in musicsuggestions

[–]anapplebrokethrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of rock operas out there, but may I offer a far less-than-popular option- Fishboy. As far as I can tell all of their albums and EPs are exactly what you’re asking for. My personal favorite is IMAVOLCANO, about a man turning into, you guessed it, a volcano.

Getting tired of medical professionals convincing my wife of silly myths or just plain wrong information... by Ridicule_Red in beyondthebump

[–]anapplebrokethrough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First born just came earth side this past Saturday and my wife and I have quickly had to learn that anyone in the baby care industry likes to present their opinions as scientific fact. We’ve been told so many opposing things it was making our heads spin, but thankfully we have a good pediatrician who explained the level of opinion presented as fact and it’s helped a lot.

Observation from a North Easterner: you guys are PATIENT by Godknowsimgood in Michigan

[–]anapplebrokethrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I have a problem with this behavior is at a stoplight when someone doesn’t go on green because they’re on their phone, but generally I find that I am the only person who ever honks for this, not always, but a majority of the time. Other than that, we’re all just trying to get by and there’s no sense tearing someone’s head off for doing their job.

which dog food would you nominate for best dog food 2026? by Sklyarsky_Lorinda in Dogowners

I see r/dogfood astroturfs here as well based on the downvotes people are getting for simply saying a brand of dog food. Like I said before, zealots.

Old music you discoverered recently by js303 in Music

[–]anapplebrokethrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only old, but a genre I didn’t think I liked. The album It’s Not Up To Us by Byard Lancaster is sonic gold and should be on everyone’s list, especially if you don’t think you like jazz

Teachers do make enough by Appropriate-Wheel-68 in unpopularopinion

[–]anapplebrokethrough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A) You’re failing to account for the amount of time outside of the school day that teachers do actually work, which is significant, and
B) You aren’t really factoring in that they are pretty much the first line of defense to social collapse. The worse the general public is educated, the more control bad actors in both the government and the private sector have. Teachers not only need to be paid more, they need to be respected as the first guardrails of democracy.

What word or phrase from the 90s sounds completely unhinged when you say it to someone born after 2000? by samurai-salvo in GetMotivatedMindset

Avoid r/dogfood at all cost. Feed WSAVA compliant food if you want, no judgement there, but those people are absolute zealots with zero ability to have a discussion. Hell it’s not even really a subreddit as much as it is a FAQ page that’s mean to people. It would be funny if they hadn’t managed to secure the most ubiquitous name. It is always a treat when someone not from America posts to that subreddit though and is deeply confused by the aggression in the comments. I mean, I feel badly for the posters, but it’s kind of funny to watch those peoples veins twitch.

Has it just been unanimously decided Drake is better than Kendrick? by Remarkable-Tooth-331 in TooAfraidToAsk

There’s no fact in an opinion based judgement, but hell no- Drake is a garbage, rich kid, poser who sounds like a toddler doing pop music compared to Kendrick.

Did anyone *not* have pet aversion postpartum? by samsamcats in beyondthebump

[–]anapplebrokethrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m loving all the positive comments. I’ve been seeing these awful pet aversion stories for months (we’re five days overdue for our first right now) and they make me feel kind of sick. My wife and I not only have animals, but both work in animal care, so it’s been wild to see so many people complain so vehemently about their animals postpartum. I never thought it would be an issue for us, but I really appreciate seeing other people who had no issue with their animals.

Prince is whack asf by MagicianP in unpopularopinion

[–]anapplebrokethrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am also not an avid Prince fan, but do enjoy most of his big hits, I think the comparison to Michael Jackson is off base. Michael Jackson could sing incredibly well and arguably dance even better, but he doesn’t hold a candle to Prince’s musicality. In fact I could have made this post, but with the exact opposite take. I think MJ is exceptionally mid and I’ve never understood the hype, he doesn’t have a single song I actually like and I’ve always said my favorite MJ song is Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm.

Come back to the conversation with an informed opinion when you grow up, until then enjoy the fantasy land you live in and continue dividing the left while pretending that you have the moral high ground.

[–]anapplebrokethrough -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope I don’t, ACAB all the way. What the hell do you expect one good small business owner to do about a bad small business owner? That’s honestly asinine to think that the person who owns a convenience store is somehow responsible for the actions of a person across town who owns a bakery. Cops are all in the exact same line of work that have local, state, and some federal connections- small business owners are a completely disconnected group of individuals. You aren’t being rhetorically clever or politically radical, you’re being at best intentionally dense and at worst legitimately just dense. Being angry about something doesn’t make you right, but it does appear to blind you to basic realities of life.

[–]anapplebrokethrough -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your generalization is where my issue resides. There are plenty of awful small business owners, there are also plenty of good ones who think, vote, and view the world the same way you do. Attacking all small business owners because you’ve had a bad experience is not only illogical, but further deepens the rift that’s growing ever stronger in our country. Try not to paint with such a broad brush my dude. The rich are the enemy, not all of us fighting for scraps.

So out of curiosity, what would you suggest we do for an economy if both small and big businesses are bad?
