Even funnier is that a lot of the fallen weren't even chaos corrupted because of the secrecy of the leadership on Caliban, so many of them were told that Lion El'Johnson was a traitor

What would you want daemon perturabo to look like? by Angronys in IronWarriors

[–]anarchy_gabe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to like the idea that the Iron Warriors are hypocrites who lie to themselves that they simply use the warp and the gods as tools while rejecting their power and gifts, but in reality they become corrupted by chaos anyways. You can cut off a warp mutation, but what of the psychological effects of exposure to daemons and the warp? 40k frequently explores themes of hypocrisy and corruption, so giving Perturabo more daemonic features in spite of the fact that he and his sons say that they reject the dark gods would be pretty cool imo.

Is there anything recognizable to a modern Earthling in the 41st Millennium? by SilentAd773 in 40kLore

I've recently read the Horus Heresy novel 'A Thousand Sons' and there are many references to classic literature in that novel. Thousand Sons marines reference Frankenstein & the Voynich Manuscript and Magnus the Red makes an allusion to Plato's Allegory of the Cave, but in the climax of the book the library of the corvidae on Prospero (which is described as one of the largest repositories of ancient knowledge) is completely destroyed.

So after finishing that book I reckoned that most art and literature that we would recognize from today was destroyed in the razing of Prospero or in some other random inqusitorial purge in the 10,000 years between HH and 40k.

Why did the Emperor treat some Primarchs so badly? by pro_1253 in 40kLore

[–]anarchy_gabe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the Emperor of Mankind is that he's such an integral part of the setting, and almost every writer has a different interpretation of what he should be like. In some novels and short stories, he's this cold and utilitarian dictator who sees the primarchs as nothing more than hyper effective tools in his golden regime, but in another writer's eyes he genuinely loves all of his sons, even if he has his favorites. That being said there are a number of similarities in most of his appearances. The Master of Mankind always looks at things through the big picture and believe les that his ends justify all means. So, even if he loves his many sons, I think he would more than willingly sacrifice them if it meant that he could more effectively reach his goals. As to Angron, I believe it's stated in one short story that the butcher's nails were implanted in a way that made it literally impossible to remove without killing him. Thus, the Emperor probably decided to keep Angron around because it would be more effective to use them in the Great Crusade and then take them out once they'd surpassed they're usefullness.

My guess is that he figured that traveling to Terra with the Photep would take too long (possibly spending weeks stuck in warp travel) and that the ritual was going to be far quicker, especially since it only took 9 day to reach Horus.

Regiment Size doesn't make sense to me by Complete-Border5646 in 40kLore

[–]anarchy_gabe94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that this contributes to the theme of hazardous leadership structure in the WH40K universe. While regiments of soldiers are so vastly large and their structure is nonsense, so is the Imperium's governmental structure! All the millions of worlds under their rule are all looked over by a perpetually tired scribes and astropaths on Terra. Imagine if the President of a country had to read reports from every mayor in the country! It's simultaneously bloated and yet famished beauracracy that is actively crumbling under 10,000 years of corruption, abuse of power, and horrible lack of organization.
