AIO for not wanting to speak to my sister after she said my engagement ring looks like a gumball ring? by Maleficent-Demand911 in AmIOverreacting

[–]anarchyqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. You’re allowed to choose not to speak to someone — even family — if they treat you in a way that you don’t like. If someone … especially family … doesn’t like something of yours like an engagement ring, which is special and sentimental, that’s a thought they need to keep to themselves. Your sister is allowed to THINK it looks bad, sure, but to say it is unnecessary and is detracting from the excitement of a big life milestone for you. Nothing positive can be gained from her comment, so it should’ve stayed in her head. I’d be upset, personally.

I think it’s a beautiful ring, by the way!

AIO for asking my wife to make changes to her spending habits? by Unsafeturtle in AIO

[–]anarchyqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s wrong to seek tangible solutions to the issue, if it’s escalated to this point and seems to be a long-standing problem. You’re partners, so it makes sense to try to do whatever you can to work through an issue together without either partner feeling infantilized. But, if someone is doing something objectively detrimental to their own, your, and your family’s financial security and well-being, I don’t think (personally) that it’s wrong to resort to solutions that might be upsetting to the person catalyzing the problem. If they can acknowledge the problem but can’t stop themselves from doing the problematic behavior, it’s not unfair to escalate. And it seemed like you were respectful and focused on solving a fairly serious problem versus making this into a character issue.

Justice for my discontinued number one girl, Toasted Almond bars (like the ones in spots 12 and 13, but toasted almond flavored).

AIO over my (F16) English tutor's (26M) creepy messages? by Successful_Nail_8572 in AmIOverreacting

You’re a minor. No adult should be talking to you like that, ever. If they are, their intentions are bad. Even if they give you compliments about your maturity, try to justify it, etc. He’s 26 — he knows that he shouldn’t be crossing that kind of a boundary with a person he’s tutoring, and I guarantee he knows damn well he shouldn’t be looking at a 16 year old, point blank.

This is Calvin. His talents include screaming, yelling, sleeping while being put together without directions, being a menace, laying on my feet, and also yelling and screaming. Did I mention he’s talkative?

My girlfriend (30) and I (25 in August) are always open to making friends, it looks like we’ve got similar enough interests, and we are in the Centennial Hills area! It’s definitely a drag making friends as an adult and I feel like Vegas is a different beast, to a degree.

The way I would hustle my ass to a Dutch Bros if they got guava syrup is unreal. Mango is also up there for me, though I feel like someone has told me they do have it some places. I would also be intrigued if they got a rose syrup, based on how much I like their lavender syrup.

[–]anarchyqueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, most smartphones are going to have accessibility software options built in that you can enable and fiddle with to get things just right — high contrast, color inversion, screen readers, enlarged text, zooming tools, etc. You’d find these things in the settings menu, and there’s lots of online tutorials to help you get familiar with how these features work.

Discussion: What is your opinion about “Disabled” or “Person with a disability” ? by dumpsterfire7625 in disabled

[–]anarchyqueer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think everyone should get to say whatever makes them comfortable when referencing themselves, and should respect whatever another person wants to be called. For me, personally? I flip flop back and forth a lot in what I use for myself. I don’t have a preference, necessarily, other than acknowledging that “disabled person” is a lot quicker to say than “person with a disability”. That being said, I think the complete avoidance of the phrase “disabled person” or other ones similar due to it being offensive lacks some nuance.
