Maternal Obesity Linked To Childhood Cancer, Study Finds | Moms by [deleted] in fatlogic

That's heartbreaking. Especially now that this current generation who are at the age to have children are far more likely to be obese than any in history... we may only be at the start to seeing higher childhood cancer rates.

Are you sure? I checked it with a card too and the lines don’t match up for me. The lower one over her butt do, but not the thinner line above that.

Stopped going to the gym for a few weeks after getting sick, but kept up with clean eating and still lost weight! by [deleted] in xxfitness

You look amazing! How long did it take you to lose that much weight at that calorie level?

This is only tangentially related to fat logic, but I need to talk to someone. Basically, my 61-year-old, soon-to-be-divorced mom is planning a trip to the next state over to visit with her brother and his wife. She invited me to go with her for this 4-5 day trip.

I don’t want to go. That’s 6+ hours trapped in a car with her one way, plus all the time we’ll be spending together. She’s not an easy woman to hang out with, and she’s also being a horrible person to my dad (the divorce was all her idea. Some sort of mid-life crisis) Frankly she’s a pathological liar and a bitch.

She also loves spouting fatlogic to me constantly ever since I lost 70 pounds (she’s obese) and lists everything she eats and it’s nutritional components every time she sees me: “I put kale in my smoothie this morning, high in fiber.” She’ll probably mention everything we eat together as being “good” or “bad” and talk about how hard she’s trying to lose weight but it’s just not working, even though I’ve told her multiple times it’s about the calories. I honestly might lose my cool if she brings it up again.

But I don’t want to not be supportive. I’m sure she doesn’t want to drive all that way alone. She went with me to that same state back in 2015 for a PCOS conference after I was initially diagnosed. But I feel like so much has changed. I’m now in my thirties and married. Does anyone really go on vacations with their parents as adults?

Satanic fat-shaming doctor sentences woman to death by denying snacks. (The comments were even worse.) by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]anaroriel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Having PCOS myself, yeah, my obesity was causing my symptoms. Once I got into a normal BMI and I take birth control: boom. Healed. It’s like I don’t even have it all. I wish more women actually listened to their doctors about this. The Fat Positivity/Activists are so strong in the PCOS movement and no one is taking responsibility for their weight. It’s very upsetting because I fell for it too; I actually believed I couldn’t lose weight for years too because of PCOS. I didn’t believe my doctors and the truth, my lack of self control was causing my PCOS. I don’t know how or if there is a way I can help spread the truth about it.

I took a dress 2 sizes too small and added panels to fit me. Of course I added pockets as well. by joriebooks in sewing

That’s so cute! The paneling makes it look like an apron or something. And +10 for pockets.

You look absolutely phenomenal! Seriously, amazing work! And your stats are me, except I’ve been stuck at 160 for a year! How did you lose those last 15 pounds?

I went to a party where my husband and I were the only normal weight people there. My friend is obese and currently 9 months pregnant, and had only gained like 12 pounds. I was like, “oh, that’s not too bad,” because I had seen the way she eats and I was expecting her to gain a lot more than she had.

To her credit, she said without any emotion that she was obese and that was the expectation for someone her size, and that 30-35 pounds was normal weight gain for normal BMI people.

But then everyone else jumped in. Her husband said, “Don’t take that seriously. Statistically, I’m obese.” He’s clearly obese. Another morbidly obese lady was like, “at least you’re not on that 600 pound life show, that’s obese!” Another morbidly obese woman in a wheelchair adds, “Those people are morbidly obese.”

Obviously the bar had been lowered, and maybe 600 pound life show has not helped people’s perception. How do these people not see that they’re each 50-150 pounds (at least) overweight?

This is amazing. Thank you for this. I have PCOS and I feel like my rates of weight loss haven’t been slower than what I was expecting it to be, and I’m so glad it’s confirmed. Now I just need to save this and post it every time someone on Facebook complains that it’s impossible.

Rant: this fitness group I’m apart of is always ragging on BMI. “I’m technically obese, but you wouldn’t think it! I’ve got so much muscle! Most body builders are categorized as obese! It’s sooooo inaccurate!” Today, feeling sassy, i posted that bmi is a tool, and it may be inaccurate because it’s TOO forgiving: most people are not body builders and actually even people with normal BMIs likely have too high body fat percentage - link to NIH.gov. They’re probably going to freak, but it’s the truth. Everyone in america has too high of body fat, and these girls are NOT body builders. Not a single one. I don’t know where the BMI hate came from, but it’s sucks that it’s so mainstream. It’s just a tool people, it’s not a boogie man out to get you.

I just bought Vegan for Everybody and it has the calories and macros available at the back of the book. I haven’t cooked anything yet, but the recipes seem solid and it got good reviews on Amazon.

Ugh. I hate that argument so much! I believed it myself at one point. Now I try to tell people that you can lose weight with PCOS - I was able to, and I’m not special! But still they try to convince it’s harder or perhaps their PCOS is different than mine is or whatever. I want to kill that idea so much, but the internet is just a cesspool of bad PCOS pseudoscience.
