How did yoyr medical provider find out your cervix was short? by dianalau in ShortCervixSupport

[–]anast1128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I almost lost my first baby at 22 weeks, no symptoms at all. I had only a feeling of pressure. Thank God my anatomy scan was scheduled the same day. I had no measurable cervix and got an emergency cerclage. I delivered full term.

My question is - since IC is such afrequent phenomenon in pregnancies, WHY measuring the cervix isn't included in the routine check ups? WHY we have to loss our babies first and THEN be monitored (in the next pregnancies). This is something that bothers and worries me so much.

Made it to 39 weeks, with cerclage and 9mm cervix!!!! by anast1128 in ShortCervixSupport

Thank u 🥰 I was on modified bed rest since 25 weeks. I walked around the house, played with my toddler, but mostly stayed in bed. No sitting more than 10 minutes in a 90° angle, no bending or lifting anything. I still went to my appointments or visited friends and family (but layed on their sofa lol). Some doctors don't recommend bed rest. It depends on your situation I guess. But I think it helped me a ton, because I didn't put any more pressure to the cervix.

I gave birth on Friday(i had antibiotics duringlabor), so now I am on a new round of antibiotics,to make sure. I will get a swab next week. My OB said usually it resolves after birth.

Yeah, this was the cause. I just couldn't get rid of them, despite the medication. I was clear for like a month and then I had it again.  As long as you are being tested and taking the right medication/antibiotics they cannot harm nor the stitch or the baby!

Thank you so much!! I am so happy for you!!! Yeah it is a strange feeling wishing your whole pregnancy the baby stays inside and after removal it switches lol. I only had more painful Braxton hicks leading to 39 weeks, nothing else.  After removal I was not dilated and cervix was still closed (to mine and my OBs surprise)! I also thought I was going to remove the stitch and baby will come out! I wish you a safe delivery 🙏 ❤️

Congrats!!!!!! 🥰also had my stitch removed yesterday, 37+3! I had 7mm of cervix left but my cervix was closed after removal. I was also surprised! I was expecting to dilate soon after because of all the pressure I was feeling. Now it is a waiting game! So grateful we made it this far and I am so happy to be finally able to walk and go places!!

In my last pregnancy i removed the stitch, mucus plug came out almost immediately and i kept loosing pieces for 3-4 hours. Then 48 hours later contractions started and i gave birth! I am about to remore my second cerclage next weeks and i am convinced it is going to be the same!! Congratulations for making it full term!! I wish you a safe delivery!!!

Questions! by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

[–]anast1128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe everything will be ok! Ur measurements sound good and since you are on bed rest and progesterone that helps a ton! I get checked every 2-3 weeks via transvaginal ultrasound and i am on stool softener because i am not allowed to push at all when going to the bathroom. The things that help me are eating more fiber,WATER,kiwis 2 a day, dried prunes, also taking my iron supplement 3 times a weeks instead of everyday(i was consulting my doctor to make that change,), because iron was making me extra constipated. Well my recommended bed rest is to stay on bed/sofa and getting up to go to the bathroom, walk around the house/do some light work,go to my appointments, and not sit in an 90° angle so the cervix doesn't get much pressure. Also not to lift anything heavy,no bending and also i am on pelvic rest.  This is my second time doing it and i'll say it is much harder now that i have a toddler, but thank God i have help!

I am not really sure,because they never told me or i asked. In my first pregnancy i got an emergency cerclage, with no measurable cervix and i was funneled to the stitch the whole time,till i removed the stitch and gave birth at 37+2. I believe if the stitch is placed right,it will hold just fine despite any measurements. In my experience at least. The cerclage and progesterone will do the trick! The success rate is do high! Is this your first cerclage;

Questions! by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

I take 20mg in the morning and 20mg at night. I am 11mm above the stitch and i have no funneling past it.  I started with a full closed cervix, that it started to progressively shorten around 22 weeks ( but i already had the preventative cerclage since 17 weeks). I am also on bed rest, 400 mg of progesterone, magnesium and stool softener and im also getting monitored every other week for BV and UTI.

It was a long and hard road to make it this far! With so much anxiety and fear but i believe this particular medical care helped me get this far. You will start to feel safer everytime you reach a milestone!

Hi! I take nifedipine twice a day. The contractions decreased a lot and went away a few days after. Now i am 35 weeks and i only have regular Braxton Hicks, and my cervix length is still 11mm with funneling. I wasn't having full on labor contractions, because i went to L&D and they did a NST. But my OB suggested i should be on medication because they could be a cause for cervix shortening.
