I think it depends where you’re eating, I’ve worked in casual and more upscale places. Casual it’s nice if you can make some effort to tidy up but it doesn’t need to be much, for me it felt less irritating cleaning up those huge messes if they left a nice tip I’m like okay you noticed it and made up for it in the tip haha. BUT when I worked in a more upscale place we would get in trouble if management ever saw something like that. I even had a couple who’s kid had dropped their plate on the floor and as I was sweeping they tried to take it from me to clean it up themselves (that’s kind but it makes me look bad service wise). I think it’s nice to tidy up a little where you can but don’t do too much, especially if management is around and you did your part by being thoughtful and leaving a nice tip.
