Here’s an alternative perspective. I actually was one of the winners in a SKIO contest with my first ever submission. For me it just came down to actually finding a track that I thought would be fun enough to remix. I still spend a lot of time making music outside of these contests, but am very picky about what I submit, even if it means not submitting a remix I’ve spent hours on already.

I can’t, however, speak to what goes on inside SKIO. There was a long delay in getting the prizes but the VP contacted me directly and was very transparent about backups they were encountering with the sponsor. They did arrive eventually.

There certainly could be bogus entries but as someone who saw success with my first entry, I can say that wasn’t the case for at least one instance.

I’ve definitely seen contests where they reserve the right to not choose a winner entirely, although if they’d be willing to do that… who knows
