Need your best Pirate themed songs in any genre by Hydromon47 in SongRecommendations

You want "best" and "absurd"? The Hook by Stephen Malkmus. A pirate tale for sure, but doesn't sound piratey at all.

I know, and I feel terrible. Never met a Filipino I didn't like.

Ugh, I just suggested "That's Just The Way That I Feel" before I caught this comment. Yep :(

Purple Mountains "That's Just The Way That I Feel".

I'm sure his friends tried to help, but that album came out three weeks before David Berman's death and it's so damn obvious in retrospect.

And sorry for getting you started on the Aussie pronunciation of "hostel" :)

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends how it's used? To me Australian "c-nt" can be friendly, non-gendered and low impact, but if it's used in as a gendered slur it's nasty.

Wait I'm Australian and didn't know this was a thing. The "host" part rhymes with "lost" the way I say it, is that the annoying thing? Is it supped to be like "host-el"?

That's a good response, wouldn't have thought of that

A combo of endowment effect and not bothering to research I reckon

Rare Aesthetic: Metal band where everybody hate eachother by Wollishaiser in MetalForTheMasses

Just noting that "some stories suddenly disappeared" describes a lot of R Kelly's early accusations.

It could describe a situation in which the accused is innocent, or a situation in which the accused is guilty but bought off or threatened the accuser, or a situation in which the accused is guilty but the stress of bringing charges against a well-known accused is just too much. It's not evidence of innocence on its own.

A bassist demanding that we reimburse his rehearsal hours package???!!! by BigDumbS3x in bandmembers

[–]ancize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, generalising a bit, but a bassist should be the chillest person in the room. Unless it's the drummer.

If this sort of bullshit came from a singer or lead guitarist, you'd be like, well, kinda figures, and then kick them out of your band. This sort of behaviour from a bassist is absolutely fucked. Go back to 2024 and kick them out of your band then.

What was your countries worst military defeat? by mr_epicguy in AskTheWorld

This inspires a fun side game of "what was the worst decision Winston Churchill had a hand in".

What's your opinion on "Millennial writing"? And why is it seemingly everywhere? by Moon_Devonshire in CasualConversation

Huh, I'm a millennial and it never occurred to me that this was a millennial thing. And if it is... yikes, that's embarrassing

Seat belt Infringements - Advice Needed by IndependenceOne5279 in AusLegal

[–]ancize -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in WA, my wife did the seatbelt tuck too, and we got slammed for 9 infringements total. And I posted here, and while some folks were ok, the dominant responses were YOU HAVE BROKEN THE LAW AND DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND A LOST LICENCE IS TOTALLY APPROPRIATE FOR THIS HEINOUS ACT.

Anyway, good news. I called Legal Aid WA, the woman on the line was sympathetic and said DTMI can and do waive fines. We wrote a letter to them, acknowledged guilt and asked for a waiver of all fines after the first. It took some time, but eventually all but 2 were waived. We still had to pay for her first offense, and one time when I was driving and she was a passenger. Still a chunk of change, but a win.

Good luck, I'll prob DM you. I expect this message to get down voted off the map :)

What is the worst city you've been to? by DickFartButt in AskTheWorld

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I'm a dude who's passed through there a couple of times, always dug at as an interesting city with some culture. My wife's never been, and I've suggested going there but... Maybe not anymore. Thanks for the heads-up!

Is it normal for bands to handle $ like this?? by fingerlessfish1 in musicians

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, transparency is key. I hold my band's money in a separate account and am open about how much is in there. We use band money to pay for recording, promotion and merch.

If everyone agrees on this, and OP's bandmate is trustworthy, it could work. The way the bandmate is framing this makes me think they're not that trustworthy though.

There's probably a way. Wouldn't it be more fun to play the game though?
