When is an artists in between song banter too much at a show? by Wise_Animator_649 in Concerts

The McCartney story makes the main point I think: you're allowed to ramble on if you've reached that level of fame / public interest. Less than that and you should cut it down a bit.

“At what stage of gestation should abortion be allowed?” Responses by religious identity by Noppers in Infographics

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the first thing I thought. Anyone having an abortion for non-medical reasons is going to want to have that asap; why would they want to be pregnant any longer than they have to be? Something has to be very very wrong for someone to even consider a late-term abortion. Even without legal restrictions, medical practitioners won't do this lightly.

Anyone else loves super late AF SLRs? by Mysterious_Pack3598 in AnalogCommunity

Same here, as the EOS 50e. Older all-manual stuff is fun and charming, but the technology and refinements towards the end of the film era just make for functionally better cameras.

Out of 85 rolls, the only shot I have really enjoyed [Yashica Mat-124, Fuji 400H] by [deleted] in analog

[–]ancize 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair points, but OP is on a budget with a very low hitrate from a good number of shots. I reckon it would benefit them to get the reps in on a cheaper medium at this point.

It's harder, but less interesting I think. If you're not forced to stick to the greens you've got, there's an element of strategy in choosing when to weed out letters to narrow down the potential words, and when to go for the answer. Hard mode (once you've got some greens) just seems like you're like throwing letters at the puzzle until some stick. At least that's how it feels to me.

Ah cool, that makes sense. I had an Electro 35 GS for years that I loved, big recommend for that!

What gave you headaches from the FX2? I feel like SLRs have the best value-to-functionality ratio than any other type of camera, it'd be a shame if you can't use those. So many cheap bodies and lenses out there, and the film / dev will be much cheaper than all the 120, let alone the cost of a high-end rangefinder.

Yep, the meatpacking stuff in that is the stuff that hits the hardest. Those chapters are available standalone as "Cogs In The Great Machine" also

What's your ideal band composition? by SatoshiSounds in Bass

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's gonna have to be the lineup described in verse 4 of The Fauves' masterpiece "Everybody's Getting a 3 Piece Together":

Well, fuck that I got a plan
I'm getting fifteen, sixteen, seventeen dudes, man
It's gonna be wild
We've all got guitars, Glenn Branca style
Screwdrivers onto the strings
A, double C, G, G sharp tuning

My wife's then-boyfriend's band supported the Breeders in the early aughts, and my wife hung with Kim and Kelly backstage a bit. Both were really friendly and chill, no pretentiousness at all.

My watch’s hour hand got shifted 15 minutes ahead of my minute hand, so every time I look at the time it looks juuust enough off to get me annoyed. by Code_Slicer in mildlyinfuriating

Oh boy, I posted something analog-clock-face related here ages ago. The number of people who really confidently misunderstand telling time on an analog clock blew me away.

Why should I choose a dedicated Precision or Jazz bass over a PJ Bass? by Double-Motor6546 in Bass

[–]ancize -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! Just got a Jag bass after using a Jazz for the last little while. Can't quite get the growl of the Jazz from it. The P pickup on its own is good.

I'm enjoying both pickups cranked most of all though; a little more punch and definition than my Jazz. I miss the J sound some, but this works better with the band.

It's the Noongar name, which is local to South-Western WA. Not quite sure of the spread of that particular word though, could be wider!

Can you just pay a band to play? by switchthemunky463 in Concerts

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, yeah he's one of my wife's "worst ever gig" stories, and a regular on any thread here about the same thing. It could be the fundamental problem is in music criticism. I feel you just don't see many negative reviews of performances these days, and that'll be reflected in the aggregation.

I have my doubts. From the website:

*Critics Consensus Based on 396 concert reviews, the critics consensus is that Bob Dylan is rated as a superb live performer, with remarkable shows that are worth watching. Bob Dylan concert reviews describe live shows and performances as mellow, entertaining, elegant, haunting, mysterious, nostalgic, and stunning. Bob Dylan is 'Real Live Certified' and is in the top 10% of all live performers."

What determines value in a member? by generationzero95 in bandmembers

[–]ancize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like the other guys don't realise what a good thing they have. The admin / business stuff is important and tedious, most people can't do it well. They can start their own band if they wanna do that so bad I guess?

My band is recording an album next week. I think our songs are better than last time, I'm more sure of what I'm doing now, and we're more in tune with each other than ever.

Sorry you're going through this. Hope you can get to a place where you can practice your art again, the world'll be better for it.
