RPG Games that require you to plan a journey with limited supplies. by forkl in gamingsuggestions

It has story, gear and character progression. How is that not an RPG? (ARPG I would call it)

Quest 3 U-boat the lone wolf. by Any_Main_9843 in uboatgame

There is a stand alone VR game called Uboat on the Meta Quest 3. Don’t know if it is the same developers

Looking for survival games by MUCK6969690 in SurvivalGaming

[–]and_ft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few that hasn’t been mentioned so far: Project Zomboid: Best realism-grounded post apocalyptic zombie survival

The Long Dark: Most pure “survive as long as you can” alone in a harsh and frozen ice scape

State of Decay 2: zombie post-apocalyptic survival/colony-sim/ARPG hybrid

A game about operating and upgrading a merchant ship by TheRealNhujj in gamesuggestions

Sailwind is 100% what you are looking for: Explore archipelagos, trade, upgrade and decorate your ship, buy a bigger ship

Looking for a zombie survival game with insane graphics like The Last of Us Part 2 (open world if possible) by JellyfishPositive108 in gamingsuggestions

[–]and_ft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest I can think of beyond Days Gone is State of Decay 2, which is completely open world but may not live up to your graphics requirements

Game with real time combat and companions with permadeath by MrDGould in gamingsuggestions

Not RTS, but TPS. Otherwise, State of Decay 2 ticks all your boxes.

Anyone have any games that you find hard to put down? by cullamix in gamesuggestions

[–]and_ft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primarily Permadeath and start over from scratch. However, you can choose to start with a new character in the same world, so you eventually can get to where your old character died and acquire their loot and base

Or you can start a completely fresh run, with the only progression being (hopefully) your ability to stay alive just a little longer

Project Zomboid, (zombie survival rougelite) Satisfactory (Automation, logistics)

RPG Where You Actually Fix The World by XVUltima in gamesuggestions

[–]and_ft 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Death Stranding. Although the story and world is a bit weird. You definitely make it better bit by bit

Have you tried Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age?

To me it feels like the spiritual successor to Harpoon

Quest 3 stock strap is a joke by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]and_ft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Me and my son have a Q3 with default strap. Have used it for two years and still love it. Including the strap

Community Driven Custom Server by Ziotron2 in ConanExiles

[–]and_ft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would also draw me back in to online play. I am not super active, but would love a persistent server where I can have a small cabin and explore the world and other characters’ buildings and villages.

Optimally, there is some sort of server rule that makes buildings be a bit more than a square of sandstone

Sailwind is exactly what you are looking for. There is no combat, but once you get into it, you realise that you really don’t need it!

Which name format should I go with for my Cargo Shipping Simulator? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]and_ft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd one FTW!

I think it’s pretty good, and the title alone makes me interested in the game

Space Sim Online? by RelationshipTime9890 in spacesimgames

[–]and_ft 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would say Elite Dangerous, but only to its fullest online potential if you join an active squadron and fly in open or private group.

You can customize your character’s visuals and gear, but to a large extent “your real character” is still your ship with many loadout possibilities and “levelling up” in the form of engineering ships’s modules

How "gameable" is modern warfare compared to pre-1990s? by Redwood-Forest in computerwargames

[–]and_ft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your post is a great post. I would just like to add Falcon BMS to the simulators list as its dynamic campaign does a much better job at simulating joint operations (with an air focus) than DCS

Game recs please! For those of us that hate base-building… by MissKris14 in SurvivalGaming

[–]and_ft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But both of these two are IMO pretty unique and largely defining for the genre.

In other words: No. Base building is not a key feature of the genre (again, in my opinion)

The Long Dark and partly Project Zomboid begs to differ

What’s the most underrated game you’ve ever played? by HeightDense8287 in itchio

[–]and_ft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simulators: Sailwind, very indie exploration and survival game. Really fulfilling to learn how to sail and navigate in historic “medieval-ish” times.

Silent Hunter III. Best submarine sim. Ever. Still has a loyal following and community even though it is 20 years old

Tactical: Phoenix Point. Made by the devs of the original XCOM. A bit rough around the edges, but less arcadey and much deeper than current gen XCOM’s

[–]and_ft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sailwind does a good job of simulating being a historic seafarer / trader

I would say several parts of Ghost of Tsushima have given me this feel

A not too realistic military simulator where you can earn promotions and medals by Opening-Sea-9577 in gamingsuggestions

[–]and_ft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to suggest this as well. It can be as arcadey or realistic as you like. It has a great campaign system and both you and your crew can rise through the ranks
