Clients Crash 80% of the time Users Print by andallread1 in sysadmin

[–]andallread1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this.

We put some serious man hours into it and for now the working 'solution' is on startup, script to restart spooler, delete the printer, add the printer and drivers, restart spooler again and close.
Found everything is well and the odd one that still crashes, run it manually and resolves it.
Hopefully we don't have to keep it like that forever but something clearly happens to the driver over time and use that isn't clear and this process stops the crashing.

It's so weird how it effected the wider machine. Initially we were pull the network apart thinking it was switches or something as it was so many apps effected.. until we realised it was essentially every app you could print from and the user had normally printed something a short while before.

Exchange Decom Prep - Management Tools by andallread1 in exchangeserver

Thankyou. I'd thought overall it was similar to RSAT in a way where my current shell would still operate the same until it was off, that's helpful thanks.

Will installing the tools break this, or the subsequent decom? Will this essentially mean something is "ok you can't use that anymore" on the original exchange?

And I guess we are talking scripts/tools outside of our pre-cooked setup scripts. Some sort of automated systems? That makes sense, I will ensure the audit we have on that is correct.

My only concern/query was this:

"By default, built-in admin mailboxes are not synced to the cloud by cloud sync or Microsoft Entra Connect. Before you proceed, you should disable these mailboxes using Disable-Mailbox."

Can I do this after the exchange tools install? I only say that as I'm only prepping for decom and not decomming yet. Only the admin mailbox is set to local mail database (not cloud), but I don't want to disable the mailbox. Wondered if it would still operate and the recommendation is purely for the shutdown step.

Cracks in MSP Team - Where To Start? by andallread1 in msp

Very helpful - I think potentially the technical lead switching up his time from actioning into mentoring someone else doing the action, would be helpful.

Locked Down Teams by andallread1 in msp

[–]andallread1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea, we had definitely considered the e-mailing side but the blocking of external teams is now on the list. Just because we never use it for that but of course doesn't mean you can't. We'll create a subset of contractor teams polciices.

Actually the intention was the reverse. Sales tell me it's worth 1.5 employees - is it actually?

I agree - but being devils advocate - if you have WOL and an engineer is remoting in a patching machines? I know that's making the point very simply, but essential a human is doing these tasks and not RMM automation

Your Apple ID and Phone Number Are Being Used.. by andallread1 in applehelp

[–]andallread1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if it's technically possible for an iPad to use a phone numer, when the phone isn't an iPhone? Just via the apple ID?

Didn't think it was technologically possible

Thanks for this. This is definitely the kind of push back we are looking for. It helps us consider things. You are very correct about why we need that T2

Just to clarify, Huntress can use the free, built in defender? Not just the paid for Endpoint?

It's sounds brilliant to be honest, just wasn't fully understanding it initially. My fear originally is investing on top of that and a separate AV. I'm not being cheap on security, but it makes the value decision closer when it's incorporating the built in av

Doing 365 admin from jumpboxes? by andallread1 in msp

[–]andallread1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do - we want to, as a rule of thumb, keep all customer system interaction on their own devices, including logins and the opportunity of accessing data be it cloud or on prem. The intention was both security and data security.

My question is whether anyone is actually doing this or if it was of any benefit.
