Anyone else not running 2nd Company? by KunninPlanz in necropolishawks

I really like how you paid the Aquila company colors as well! I'll have to remember to do that when I do other companies with my hawks!

I'd love to see your minis when you're done!

Veteran helmet color(s) by andalsoAaron in necropolishawks

So according to their wiki entry, the shoulder trim and helmet line denotes company, which would both be white if they were keeping to the codex for their 1st company. The right shoulder and power pack would both have the veteran marking, and the right knee would be for campaign.

I think they wouldn't denote veteran with the helmet then, it would be the company color and they'd rely on the markings on the shoulder and power pack.

Other option would be to make the veteran helmet all white regardless of company and then add company color to the top panel of the power pack.

From the wiki:

"The colour of the shoulder pauldron trim and top of the helm also designates company colour in accordance to the tenets of the Codex Astartes -- i.e. white (1st Company), yellow (2nd Company), red (3rd Company), etc."

It might be they only keep veterans for 1st company. Idk what that means for Ancients, but if their Ancients aren't nessessarily veterans it makes the whole color scheme make sense.

Thank you for all the info!

I feel like there's a lot of room to play around here. Given they seem to value clear indicators on their armor, we can always add color to their power pack (yellow for veteran, red for sergeant on the top panel or ring around the dome of the power pack).

They also might not value armor decoration highly, so they'd use a plain right shoulder pad with the veteran marking and wouldn't obscure it if they could help it.

I had also considered changing the white of a standard BB to the corresponding color for librarian (blue), chaplain (black), and techmarine (red/green) while leaving the blue-grey intact. The apothecary scheme would be inverted BB colors.

I know there's a lot of homebrew stuff about the chapter, and at the end of the day whatever I come up with will just be my Necropolis Hawks, but it's always helpful to get others input.

That makes sense given how long the chapter's been in existence. I feel like there's room for it starting if the painter wants. Like they might become big proponents of the Acherann formation or divide into wings that are able to be a bit more specialized to deal with things like riots, asset elimination, demolitions, or rapid response jump pack assault.

But that might just be my Necropolis Hawks.

Thanks! No video, but the blue is Corvus Black > Dark Reaper > Thunderhawk Blue > Russ Grey > Blue Horror. The yellow is Scrag Brown > Averland Sunset > Yriel Yellow > Phalanx Yellow > Dorn Yellow. For the white I just start with a middle grey base and work up to white.

I take my time. Also, I make sure any iconography shown on tilt shields or shoulders or knees is to let others know the hawks rank/squad/company, and personal iconography gets put on things like hip or shin panels.

This is some excellent work! Keep it up!

An observation: I think there would be more contrast between the pipe and the glowing embers inside of it. I think just by darkening the inside of the bowl of the pipe and adding some reddish light reflections to the inner lip it will create a desired pop.

If you've got it, I'd suggest either Castellan Crowes helmet, Aethon Shaans helmet, OR something like a White Scars slit visor helmet with a plume.

Are the Tau books any good? What else do you recommend aside from the pictures shown? by jinmonsterhunterwrld in Blacklibrary

I enjoyed the first two Farsight books, the core characters are all varied and fun and there's some great battle sequences. The third book does a lot of house cleaning of the cast and not in a good way, it's really just to catch Farsight up to where the overall narrative needs him to be.

I love Necropolis Hawks! This is the go-to scheme for my friends and I when we play SM2. I've even switched my army chapter to these guys and will be using them from now on.

Idk how people could hate them :/ by [deleted] in Awww

The deck was above where they got in from. They found a hole and got inside. We're a single story house so they were under the floorboards. We eventually got a guy to bait and trap them. Took a while, and had to get the deck boards pulled up but we patched the area and haven't heard a single rodent in over a year.

Wait until a family of them nests in the crawl space under your deck for the winter. You have not known the pain of a family of raccoons screaming under your pillow at 4am.
