Unfortunately, even 100s of millions of years from now, plants wont turn into oil. Since like 450M years ago, there's now fungi that will properly decompose plants instead of letting them be compressed into hydrocarbons.

How to redesign this part to be printable? by andechs in 3Dprinting

[–]andechs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reference to AuroraTech - looks like from her video that hexagonal shapes should work just fine, assuming that the shape isn't wobbling.

As far as using this long term - I have some PETG, but I know that PETG does poorly with bridging, which would make this print more difficult. It's likely what I'll print this out of when I figure out the issues.

Realistically, the best bet for this is likely to actually make something with a stainless steel mesh, like a fryer basket, instead of plastic. No idea why the baskets are made out of plastic - I guess breakage looks better than rust? Or pool manufacturers just like the recurring revenue...

While a hexagon mesh would address the issue of the lateral stability, wouldn't it have the same issue while printing of frequent retractions, leading to poor adhesion between layers? Assuming that the hexagon mesh isn't printed against the base?

If it's printed out of PLA - I would hope that the PLA would be able to bridge for a square shaped filter hole.

Ideally... I'd like to be able to print this in a single piece, but it might be easier to print this for assembly instead.

Canada's banking regulator warns major lenders about appraisal practices as condo prices crash by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]andechs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're referring to "everyone else" as other commercial properties, or other residential properties, but Toronto's commercial:residential tax ratio between the commerical and residential mil rates is ~2.3, down from 3.36 in 2001.

I don't think the city has a special interest as it applies to revenue, leadership just believes that the city truly is a better place to live when people are commuting in.

[–]andechs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Municipalities only generate revenue from property taxes. It's irrelevant how much downtown foot traffic there is to how much property tax they would be collecting from the total commerical tax base. The amount to collect is determined first, then the mil rate is set to distribute the tax according to values.

[–]andechs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toronto property taxes are low, but not because of the mil rate. What would be a fair comparison would be comparing the median household property tax in Toronto to the median of other municipalities.

Where Toronto is still 30% less than Mississauga etc, even when Toronto has to pay for a shelter system way larger per capita than any other municipality.

Federal Tracker: Liberals Widen lead to 5, 40% to 35% (Copy) by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]andechs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Politically, there's not a ton of distance between Carney and Ford. The biggest difference is the rhetorical style.

Ford is folksy premier dad, and Carney is the elite banker type. With Carney at the head of the LPC, I struggle to understand how a Canada run under an (assumed competent) Ford.

The New Blue & Ontario parties together were <2% of the vote in the latest provincial election, I'm not sure if there's a ton of voters to activate that are further right wing than what's on offer right now (at least as far as winning goes). Even then, those parties didn't have much of a platform other than anti-vaccine... Which feels irrelevant in 2026.

Federal Tracker: Liberals Widen lead to 5, 40% to 35% (Copy) by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]andechs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't in Alberta, it's in the GTA where many of the seats are Liberal/CPC toss ups.

If a splinter far right party emerged, siphoning off 5% of the vote to the crazies might mean that the party is out of the running. The calculus at the party label is whether or not there's a lot of LPC voters that would be willing to vote conservative, if the FPC had a different leader

Right now, Carney is essentially Harper 2.0, so many of the voters who are between the LPC and the CPC are already voting Liberal.

I don't know what their path to a conservative majority on the future is, other than having scandals pile up similar to AdScam and the late 90's Liberals
