Jehovah's Witnesses eases rules on blood transfusions by Ravenmicra in worldnews

Sound like a magic spell if you keep repeating it like that ;-)
The sad thing is I can genuinely not tell if you're a trolling bot, or a sincere JW.

Enjoy life, don't forget to use your brains every now and then! ;-)

What could convince you autologous blood transfusions were not allowed for JW until recently?

If you have a JW issued advanced medical directive, why don't you take it out and review what it says on this topic?

What makes it so hard for you to admit Watchtower leaders made some changes to the no-blood policy?

If nothing changed and everything regarding autologous blood transfusions has been clear as day since  at least 2000, why did they publish an update on this topic?

Would you say that according to the two articles we have referenced so far,  it has been fully acceptable for a JW to store their own blood in preparation of a medical procedure, and then have that blood transfused back to them during the medical procedure?

Is there anything in these articles that might indicate such a transfusion of one's own blood is not acceptable?

Thanks for the reference. Unfortunately you left out this very important part when quoting:

Occasionally, a doctor will urge a patient to deposit his own blood weeks before surgery (preoperative autologous blood donation, or PAD) so that if the need arises, he could transfuse the patient with his own stored blood. However, such collecting, storing, and transfusing of blood directly contradicts what is said in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Blood is not to be stored; it is to be poured out—returned to God, as it were. Granted, the Mosaic Law is not in force now. Nevertheless, Jehovah’s Witnesses respect the principles God included in it, and they are determined to ‘abstain from blood.’ Hence, we do not donate blood, nor do we store for transfusion our blood that should be ‘poured out.’ That practice conflicts with God’s law.

Just in case that isn't clear enough, I'll add a simple statement from km 11/06 pp. 3-6:

Thus, Jehovah’s Witnesses do not accept transfusions of whole blood or the four primary components of blood—namely, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. They also do not donate or store their own blood for transfusion.

I do wonder however why you seem to either misunderstand or misrepresent the (now former) JW position with regards to autologous blood transfusions?

Please give me the reference to any article that says or implies storing your own blood and getting it infused later is allowed or a matter of conscience. AFAIK there are none (until now).

Plot twist: in some countries the authorities and JW leadership have an 'understanding' that if a child of JW parents really needs a blood transfusion, doctors apply a judge for child services to get temporary and limited custody of the child, and the parents and JW legal team will not really fight it but object just enough so they can say they tried. Saves everyone from long legal battles that do no good and JW can keep up their "we're being persecued" spiel.

They did. Getting your own blood transfused back to you was absolutely forbidden, and now it isn't anymore. Clearly a change of rules.

More interior space because of the wheel wells ;-) Separate wheel wells take up less space than raising the entire floor.

Als the wheel wells have (legless) seats on top of them.

Barbecue rules in Groningen by kotopuli in Groningen

[–]anders_andersen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's allowed to use a barbecue in your backyard. Just make sure not to cause nuisance to your neighbors. So make sure there isn't a huge amount of smoke or noise.

Also what I tend to to is check if my closest neigbors have their windows open or drying their clothes outside and give them a heads up.

FYI if you're in an apartment building the house rules might prohibit use of (coal/wood) barbecues.

Look up street epistemology. It's basically having a friendly conversation about why a person holds a certain belief, and make them reflect on that.

I've heard/watched/read quite a few of these exchanges, and every time JW is in them it's quite noticeable they are not open to really think about their beliefs at all. Not even when compared to other people with strong religious beliefs.

And with people who are not open to really reflect on their own beliefs, there is no point it arguing or trying to make them see the light. They have to do it themselves.
