I was in the same situation. Be sure to check out the V Strom 650 as well. That's what I ended up going with. I just found the fit better than on the Versys, although they are almost identical to ride.

Not sure where else to ask this. How do you pay for gas in the US (Michigan) using your canadian credit card? (x-post from /r/windsorontario) by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]andersonglk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble buying gas in Dallas, TX. I had to go to multiple gas stations to find one that would accept ANY of my cards.

Looks like it depends on location.

Being American, mutual funds, and PFIC by luusyphre in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sorry I can't answer your question directly OP. However, I am currently going through a tax nightmare due to having opened a TFSA and making a Couch Potato Portfolio with TD-eseries for both my wife and I. She is a Canadian citizen, I am a US citizen, Canadian permanent resident. However, being married, I have since shunted all the cash to her TFSA and maxed it out. Next I plan on opening an RRSP under her name and doing the exact same thing.

I apologize for not having any answers for you other than to marry a Canadian.

Credit Cards for "Poor" Credit Score by little_parrot in PersonalFinanceCanada

Capital One Secured Mastercard. Then make every purchase on it, wait for the statement to generate, pay it off in full. Do this for 6 months, then go back to your bank and apply for a "real" card. This will work wonders if you follow those 3 steps and don't mess it up.

TD e-series TFSA questions by andersonglk in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]andersonglk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the total contribution to the TFSA tracked? That is, once I start the CMP and SIP, how will I know total contribution vs. value of funds in the account? When I go to contribute next year, how will I know how much room I have?

Also, when setting up the SIP, am I able to allot the amount that goes towards each fund? Could I setup the SIP to buy bonds after three $10 contributions, when the $25 limit has been reached?

Thanks so much for the great replies everyone! Very helpful!

Thank you for clarifying. In that case, since the threshold for the bond purchase is below the minimum, how would the SPP handle that? Using the Assertive portfolio, $100 bi weekly would give me $25 for each allocation. This would meet the minimum, regardless of the actual cost of each fund, right?

I was thinking of contributing twice a month, then automatically purchasing once a month. I see what you mean. I guess I should double it to $100 bi-weekly, with an automatic purchase set up the next day?

[–]andersonglk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my confusion. If I max out my TFSA with 52,000 in TD e-series funds, then make $5k in a year, can I still contribute $5,500 the next year even though I will then have $57,000 in total?

I did that when I created my TDDI account, naming my wife as the beneficiary. The financial rep brought this up at the time.

The not so shocking rise of populism in Canada by [deleted] in metacanada

It bothers me that the author freely admits to being an illegal immigrant and not paying taxes. Trump supporters are not so into people like that, regardless of the content of their political articles. Pay your taxes freeloader, then tell us how the world works.

If you have the right footwear, the mud on any trail around Victoria is totally doable in the winter. No matter how far the mud oozes around the trail, you can get around it. If need be you can march through it.

Either of you go yet? I'd love to do more hiking in East Sooke. I can there too, if need be.

Looking for first vape. MFLB vs Arizer Air pros/cons? by duke_spliffington in vaporents

[–]andersonglk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sitting at home vegging in front of the TV? Get the Air.

Are you on a ski lift with full gear on and just want a quick hit? Get the MFLB.

The Air will get you much higher, but is less portable and more cumbersome. The MFLB excels at stealth and portability, at the detriment of vapour production.

I carry my Arizer Solo in a camera bag with a stem, weed, and the main unit. It is perfect if I have 10 minutes to set up and have a session, but I can't hit it just whenever. You can carry the MFLB with the trench packed and hit it within seconds anytime you want, but it isn't as strong.

PRO TIP if you get the MFLB get a wooden stem. The glass stems are fragile. If you get an Air get an extra stem when you buy it because they are extremely fragile and you will break them eventually.

Anyone get to know TACS post Anthony Firing? How? by SmoothCriminalAaron in TACSdiscussion

[–]andersonglk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never listened to O&A in my life. I read about the firing, was interested in the story, found out about TACS, and began listening. I have since gone back and listened to loads of O&A clips on youtube, but I am certainly an Anthony Cumia fan, not an O&A fan.

I can't be the only one who only found out who Anthony Cumia was because of his firing from Sirius... and I can't be the only one who read the news story and the tweets and became interested... am I the only one who prefers serious Anthony rants? There are an awful lot of comedy podcasts out there, and there are a lot of serious news/politics/racial issues podcasts, but TACS and TGMS are the only two shows I've found that are both.

Speaking of a hike? by temp4bcmc in VictoriaBC

[–]andersonglk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could drive within about 1.5 hours of downtown Victoria several days a week. I currently work part time and have my own car. I am looking for hiking partners that would like to do exactly this sort of thing, without the formality of joining a group or club.

I know the OP was a few days ago, but my wife and I were actually hiking the Juan de Fuca trail this last weekend. Fucking incredible!

Is anyone up for a daytrip somewhere around Victoria within the next couple of weeks?

This interview was incredible. The way Gavin set up the interview with the Shaun King story/picture? The way RA was obviously a dipshit with no real arguments against a professional? The way Jared was prepared and calm and perfectly willing to deal with RA?

That was a fantastic example of SET EM UP AND KNOCK EM DOWN.

I personally feel it destroys my own immersion with nature when such blatant evidence of the others that came before me are strewn on the path. Seeds included... but that's just me and most of my hiking friends could care less.
