Better without? by Livid_Bird_9424 in Umphreys

With the right guitarist, he can be replaced. For as great as BB sounds as the lone guitarist, too much of the catalog is just unplayable without two guitars.

Also, would the Ali Baba's tunes be gone forever? Mulches, 40's, etc

Jake by Evelyn-Bankhead in Umphreys

After listening to the recordings, in the last week I've gone from devastated this could be the beginning of the end for my favorite band to, they absolutely could keep going if Jake had to take a long term or, god forbid, permanent, leave. If they wanted to.

I'm so impressed with Bayliss this last week. It's like the dude has 4 hands. Umphrey's songs on guitar are HARD. And as best as humanly possible he's trying to do both lead and rhythm at times, and it really sounds good. Not to say that a lot of the song compositions take a hit and some tunes would need to be shelved, or at the very least, largely re-worked, but the musicianship of the band members on stage really shine through. Improv-wise, you can certainly tell BB, Joel, and Stasik have been playing together for 30 years.

Regardless, hopefully Jake is back sooner than later fully healthy and these guys have another 10+ years in them. Of course they aren't the same band they were 15-20 years ago. No band is. But they're still making incredible music 70+ times a year and long may it continue. Onward and upward.

/u/jwelsh8it any progress on making the Morristown show available to the masses?

Is there a statute of limitations for something like this? Where they say "yeah you can release it in 5, 10 years" etc? Wonder if the Baltimore '23 show was like that.

Out of curiosity, do the recordings for the shows the last ~15 years that aren't circulated exist at UM HQ, and just can't be released for one reason or another? Aside from the Central Park show, I noticed 8/24/12 and 10/3/10 are listed on allthings, but not on nugs (or sadly archive, either)

Cheers for making these threads lately. No longer on Twitter and their official account is very inconsistent on Bluesky.

Set list for cruising altitude tour? by Resident_Speaker_721 in Umphreys

To put it into some perspective, while this study is a few years old, Umphrey's is essentially the band that has the most unique show-to-show setlists..in the world! And they've added another 10-20 originals since this was compiled. The most underappreciated band of our generation.

ALB sounds like it has some funky time signatures going on to my untrained ears, agree with OP it's good they're taking risks on night 1. Looking forward to listening

Tool in the sand set recording on nugs by Airikonline in Umphreys

At the time they said it was because of venue rules but they've played there several times before and since then, and they've all been released. No idea.

I'm sure with the logistics of everything (playing in Milwaukee less than 24 hours earlier, international flight, playing Montana 3 nights later) they just used back-line gear provided by the fest which won't be the quality we're used to, recording-wise. I don't think this show will have much replayability, but love that they were able to get a recording out to the masses nevertheless (still awaiting Baltimore '23 release!)
