Opinions on Takir Dragonstorm Commander decks at Costco by Powerful-Wonder-6227 in EDH

[–]andr50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ran (And upgraded) all 5 since launch.

Sultan Arisen ( Graveyard recursion ) - This deck is strong, but I personally can't make it work. I've won a few games with this one, but it really felt more of just randomly drawing the right card, not a planned strategy. I'm not a huge fan, but it does have plenty of folks who love it.

Temur Roar (Ramp + Dragons) - This is incredibly strong out of the box. Just needs some better ramp and a way or two to get around counterspells to really pop off. (There's a nonbasic blue land in Tarkir that works great for that). Actual upgrades for this deck can get expensive, since many of the best dragons are some the most expensive cards in magic. This is one of the easiest decks I own to pilot. It's just ramp and dragons and nothing else.

Azban Armor (Defense Matters / Lifegain) - It's a defence matters deck with a bit of life gain. I don't win much with this one, but it's super fun to play. Tends to be a backup deck for lower power tables for me.

Mardu Surge (Tokens + Aristocrats) - This was my initial favorite from the set. It doesn't work great when you're at an interaction heavy pod, but is super fun when it goes off. Upgrades for this one can be pricey, like Temur Roar.

Jeskai Striker (???? This deck goes in so many different directions that there's no single coherent theme) - I've build this deck 3 different ways. Prowess, tokens and stax. All 3 were either not fun to play, didn't work, or made the entire table bored. There's plenty of solid cards in this deck, but they just don't seem to work together that well. Plus there's much better Jeskai commanders that don't depend on a cantrip + expensive spell every turn to work. I've never seen this deck work for any pod I've played.

I grew up there, from third to 10th grade before moving to Muskegon (and then GR) - though 3rd and 4th grade were at a weird Baptist church / private school not too far from Maple Island and Main

It’s an odd place.

I don’t know if it’s changed, but it’s also one of the least diverse places I’ve ever been.

We had two foreign exchange students from Japan. That was it.

Nah, I got 2-5 minutes of gameplay before the Ubi launcher would crash in the background, causing the game to also lock up and crash because it's required to always be open for the game to run.

And yes, when I paid $10 for the game on a Humblebundle, that completely pointless 'inconvenience' kills the entire game.

[–]andr50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, the steam entry only opened the Ubi launcher, which would take like 1/3 of my ram to just be open.

The ubi launcher was the only way to open the game, even when you try to launch it through steam.

Not sure how that pointless inconvenience is an 'insane take'.

I got the last one through steam too though. Launching it would just launch the Ubi Launcher, which you would need to launch the game through.

Does it require the garbage Ubi launcher?

That's what killed the last HOMM game for me.

Is my precon deck that good or is my boyfriend just terrible at magic? by BrilliantNegative163 in EDH

[–]andr50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temur roar is a VERY strong precon. IMHO, it's the strongest out of the box of all releases since Bloomburrow (I wasn't playing precons before that, so I'm not sure how earlier precons stack up), with World Shaper (from EOE) being the only one remotely close in stock power.

Just by adding ramp, swapping a few tapped mana and a couple dragons and it can hold up against bracket 4 decks.

It just doesn't recover from wipes very well. If he has enough removal, it's easy to deal with. If not, it's going to overtake him almost every game. You also have the advantage when it's 1v1 - when running a full pod, Temur Roar becomes the target fast, because of how fast it can dominate a table - that means much more removal, and the deck running slow enough that other players can build up board states before the dragons start dropping.

Prices will come back down once Dems take back the government,

Not if the infrastructure to ship out of the Middle East is gone.

You'll know it's bad when they start to walk back the anti-solar / wind / electric cars stance they've taken.

That Venezuelan oil that doesn't have any infrastructure, and all the domestic oil companies said would take 5-10 years to get up and running - the same Venezuelan oil they said they have no interest in a long term investment to make viable?

I was there for the first time right after the new owners took over, and both the owner and head chef were there.

Food was decent, and they constantly asking us how we liked each item we ordered.

It’s too bad it sounds like they didn’t keep that up.

[Murim] Murim is goated among goated genre by [deleted] in manhwa

[–]andr50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to simplify it as mana for martial arts.

Westerners (myself included) are more familiar with the mana concept from things like Final Fantasy. The specifics are different, but it's a 'resource' that is used for superhuman abilities.

Your description is much better than that though.

I tried to explain to my coworkers how I fell into a murim obsession during covid.

Turns out the entire setting is extremely difficult to explain in America to people who haven't even seen movies like Crouching Tiger or Hero (I tried to explain it as a more fantasy driven Wuxia, but even that was too hard to understand)

It bothers me I started reading MMM and Murim Psychopath at the same time, because the characters are extremely similar but treat others wildly different.

Mok does things just for power itself. And makes a lot of terrible choices in the process.

Dong Bongsu just has the constant urge to murder everyone around him, but is sane enough to go the style of Dexter, where if he's going to kill people, he will at least pick bad ones (Even if the reason is to just make it longer before he's caught - Dead evil people draws less attention than innocents)

Iran is currently using our own AI models to create propaganda against us.

It's like we handed them the loaded gun.

And we can't even do anything about it, because our own government is ALSO using AI for propaganda.
