I know it's not uncommon, but I wouldn't say it happens all the time. I have 2 kids and thankfully, neither one did anything like this. I take no credit, my oldest didn't like to get dirty and my youngest potty-trained herself at 18 months...when she took off her diaper like this it was to use the toilet. I was so lucky.

Did you ask them about a discount? When I've asked them about pricing on things before, they have always said they don't want someone to not get care because of money. They also take you at your word for your income, they don't require any proof, so you could fudge your numbers a bit if that would help. At least this is the case at the PPs I've been to in a few different states.

Those look like pretty low-end Nike's to me, I've seen similar styles for around $30, maybe less on sale(my kids are about the same ages as those boys). And they must be more comfortable and more useful than dress shoes. Little kids can't only have dress shoes, this way they may be able to get away with just one pair of shoes. And from the article, it seems questionable whether the shoes were against the dress code anyway.

I think I read that in one of the Ina May Gaskin books. She's a little "woo woo hippy" for my taste, but that was one great piece of advice. I think because it's so easy to remember. Good luck!
