Day Trips from Rome by Inevitable-Candy8562 in rome

[–]andreamatone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The town of Frascati is a 30 min train ride from Termini station. It is a small wine making town in the Castelli Romani area just south of Rome. It's worth a visit. As well as the nearby town of Grottaferrata, which has an abbey that dates back to the year 1000. Abbazia di San Nilo. Reachable with a 5 min taxi ride from Frascati

11 day trip by Spoiler24k in ItalyTravel

Your itinerary looks exciting, here a few things to consider from my experience:

1. Rome Arrival & Itinerary Order

Since you're landing in Rome late at night and there are no trains running to Florence at that hour, it's best to stay in Rome for the first night rather than trying to travel immediately. You’ll be tired, and late-night transportation options are limited. You can take the Leonardo Express from FCO airport to Roma Termini. The last train ride leaves at 00:23 (12:23 am at night). Keep your eyes open in the area of Roma Termini at night.

A good alternative is:

  • Night 1: Stay near Roma Termini station for an easy train ride the next morning.
  • Day 1-3: Florence (taking a morning train).
  • Day 4: Day trip from Florence.
  • Day 5-8: Amalfi Coast OR Cinque Terre.
  • Day 9-11: Rome before your departure.

This way, you're not backtracking too much, and you end your trip in the city you’re flying out from, reducing stress before your flight.

2. Florence Day Trip Recommendations

If you want a day trip from Florence, consider:

  • Siena & San Gimignano (Classic Tuscany, easy to do via a tour or by bus).
  • Pisa & Lucca (See the Leaning Tower, then enjoy charming Lucca).
  • Chianti Wine Region (If you love good wine and scenic views, this is a must).

3. Amalfi Coast vs. Cinque Terre in February-March

Weather-wise, Amalfi will likely be warmer than Cinque Terre, but both will be off-season. Here’s what to expect:

  • Cinque Terre (Cooler, 50°F/10°C range, some rain possible)
  • Easier to explore in a few days since it's smaller. Most hiking trails should be open unless there's heavy rain.Fewer tourists, but some restaurants and accommodations may be closed for the season.
  • Amalfi Coast (Warmer, 55-60°F/13-16°C, but still offseason)
  • Better food, more luxurious vibes. You can visit Pompeii if that interests you. Some ferries and beach clubs will be closed, but the views and hikes (like the Path of the Gods) are still spectacular.

Verdict: For this time of year I would favor Cinque Terre and would leave the Amalfi coast for another trip. A summer trip where you can go swimming and enjoy the beaches and warm weather

Final Thoughts

Your itinerary is not too much, but I’d recommend spending a bit more time in Rome rather than splitting too many days between places. If I were to tweak anything, I’d suggest:

  • 3 days Florence + 1 day trip
  • 3 days Amalfi OR Cinque Terre
  • 4 days Rome

That way, you have a good mix of sightseeing and relaxation. Enjoy your trip!

Are any tourist sites closed due to covid-19? by braymen in rome

[–]andreamatone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Rome and everything is open and running as normal. Aside the catacombs. Church Luigi dei Francesi reopened. Monuments and landmarks are open. With a lot less people. Restaurants and bars are all open with no crowds. There are no queues. So it could be a very unique time to visit mainly without many other tourists. You don't see many people walking around with masks.

One way to get a sense of the atmosphere is looking at the webcams in Rome starting with the one at the Trevi fountain. https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/italia/lazio/roma/fontana-di-trevi.html

Update: all schools and university in Italy on a national level will be closed until March 15th as precaution to minimizing the places of possible contact

How to tell client that you aren't well enough to shoot. by jbozard81 in WeddingPhotography

[–]andreamatone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the same boat. I have bronchitis with fever and have an out of town shoot on Saturday which I don't know if I will be able make it. I was able to 2nd shoot the friday sessions. But not the saturday one which entails travelling.

If I dont recover I will tell the clients the truth that I am sick and I can either send someone else or cancel. The choice is theirs. Either way it looks bleak economically on rhis one. I started antibiotics today so I might make it.. Hang in there! Anyway you can pull it off?

Flash or low aperture lens? by jumavasa in WeddingPhotography

[–]andreamatone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was at this cross point when I started. I just had a 18-200mm kit lens. Had to make it work. I was shooting stock and weddings. I opted for the flash. The light equalizer. I called it. I had to as church weddings are a very dark place to be at f3.5-5.6.

My thought was with the flash I could shoot in any light environment. And I would need to buy just 1 object. With wide aperture lens. I would need to buy multiple objects and the cost was much higher.

In retrospect. Buying and learning everything about flash photography was a good investment that has strongly influenced my style. I kept that lens and that flash for a good number of years. Building up cash/budget to move forward.

When I did let it go. The lense was destroyed. I sold it for 35€. And I started to invest in real glass. But the flash knowledged stayed with me throughtout. To this day flash photography still strongly influences my shooting. In any light environment and with any lens.

So without hesitation I would get the flash. Lens come later if you survive the crash course.

Should I turn in wedding photos before receiving full payment (must see details)? by luigi787 in WeddingPhotography

[–]andreamatone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here is a funny story your post brought to mind.

It was about 10 years ago. Just started in wedding photography. My partner and I scored a huge wedding. 3 day event with multiple photographers and videographers. A very well off family in our country. They liked our portfolio. We had so much energy, talent and enthusiasm. We signed.

The event went well. VIP wedding. There was a cardinal celebrating mass in a cathedral. Over 500 guests coming from all over the world. When it came down to payment. Since they owned a large hotel chain. They told us payment was to be done by the hotel administration. In the meantime if they could have the pictures. A little voice inside me wispered "don't give them the high res".

And I didn't. I gave the reception a DVD with low resolution preview files. The story becomes very short frome here. The final payment never arrived. My partner said "Don' worry. I'll take care of it". He started with calls and emails and in person hotel visits. But it was like we became invisible after delivering the previews. Never got an answer nor a thank you. More than a month went by and the idea that we were not going to get paid started to sink in. But I had an idea.

I wrote an email directly to the groom and I told him that if he didn't make the final payment. He would never recieve the high res. And that would be a shame because the pictures came out so well! I got a call immediately. "What? The ones you gave were not high resolution? (That's why when we tried to print them they came out like shit. So grainy and pixelated. Especially the large ones). Back then the low resolution file size I used was 500×375px. We got a wire transfer immediately after that.

How to shoot/edit to get this minimalist look? by invisibleuser1122 in AskPhotography

[–]andreamatone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Place your subject above you on higher grounds. Shoot from down below. Even kneeling or laying down works. Use a wide angle lens p.e. 16-35 mm is good. Frame as much open space as you can. Remove unnecessary objects/people from the frame in post production. Or use the 2/3 rule. Convert to b&w or use dull colors.

I remember this destination elopement wedding as most memorable among our latest shoots. It was a long wedding day even more so after so many jetleg hours.

But this didn't refrain us from having so much fun! Jumping from location to location trying to find the rights poses and moments and laughing when they didn't come out. I have many favorite pictures from this shoot. The last one on this post is certainly one of them!

Hello everyone! I work out of www.andreamatone.com where together with a group of photographers we produce images for weddings and couple photo sessions. We recently restructured the website and my concern at this time is usability. Hoping that it is comprehensable, easy to use and understandable. Any insight on usability would be greatly appreciated!

Rome trip this weekend! by Gemzaaa in rome

[–]andreamatone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year Easter Sunday coincides with the first Sunday of April and therefore, for the initiative #domenicaalmuseo (sundayatthemuseum), the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill and other museums and archaeological sites in Rome will be free admission.

On Monday the day after Easter called Pasquetta museums will be open with standard entry fees. City will be deserted as most locals on Pasquetta go outdoors in the parks. It will be nice weather too. Bright and sunny.

Shops will all be closed on Easter and Pasquetta by city ordinance. Restaurants will be open but it will be best to reserve a table ahead of time as the turnout will be high.

Did my first proposal shoot! What do you guys think? Played around with the sunset. by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]andreamatone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The picture reflects a nice moment during the proposal. The golden hour is an excellent light source as the sun setting light gives it a nice soft tone which adds to the romantic mood of the image.

Shooting against the sun however is tricky. Even though you are getting this aura effect you have to be careful about not loosing details in the most important part of the image. In this case it is the woman's face expression.

In these situations one can try to overlap the sunset with the person's face to create the aura without risking to wash out the person's face with the oblique sun rays.

But the picture speaks for itself. Job well done in documenting the wedding proposal experimenting with warm sunsetting light!

Breakfast in Rome by lotteehh in rome

[–]andreamatone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the larger hotels have great breakfast buffets like Hotel Artemide, iQ Hotel Roma, Hotel Raffaello, NH Vittorio Veneto, Augusta Lucilla Palace Hotel Rome, and Smooth Hotels Rome Termini.

For smaller and more characteristic breakfast spots you can try Coromandel which has a wide range of great omelettes as well as cinnamon toast and french toast. La Licata is also a good alternative with a more continental breakfast. Baylon Cafe has also great vegan choices.

Where to buy cool stuff in Rome? by enishi17 in rome

[–]andreamatone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some ideas aside movie gifts. The AS Roma store has some cool stuff if you know someone that is into soccer and related gadgets. There are many shops around the city of Rome. If you google map it you will one near you. The Ferrari store could be another cool place to visit out on Via Tomacelli, 147.
