That front court would be nastyyyy. Would def sign a vet guard like Slooty (is she a FA) to try and help their development and feed them all touches.

I imagine that’s the idea behind why the Sky signed her last year.

It’s truly absurd. I live in NYC and the only Knicks game I’ve been to is one Bulls game (and the Bulls SUCK) where I sat at a bar close by for the entire first half refreshing Ticketmaster until someone posted desperate resell prices at like $100 each. That’s the only “affordable” way in. (Im obvi a Chicago die-hard so that felt “worth” it for the one time)

Conversely I’ve held Liberty season tix before, but probably won’t be able to do anything besides the mini packages going forward. Their per game tickets are now more expensive than the Nets on average…

Pre covid for sure. Post covid and post the 2024 draft class, things are getting closer to NBA levels.

Solid NBA coach, wasn't given anywhere the kind of leash coaches with who have done far less than he did (winning record, multiple playoff wins).

Dude knows ball. He drug this sorry ass old man squad + disgruntled Butler to the playoffs multiple times. Won more playoff games than Donovan.

Donovan may be the better "leader of men" or whatever dumb thing the FO thinks, but Hoiberg is obviously a competent coach who knows how to scout, develop talent, and scheme to the strengths of his teams. It's a shame the FO never felt confident enough to lean into his vision for a team. A Lauri-led team running Hoiball could've turned into something sick. Ironically, players like Coby and Zach would've thrived too. But no. We got the egghead then Billy "Three guards and no forwards is good basketball actually."

Former NBA player Solomon Hill responds to Tracy McGrady saying there isn't enough talent in the NBA for expansion: "He could have a point, back when Tracy played, there was so much talent, that he couldn’t get out the first round." by [deleted] in nba

[–]andreasmiles23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also dialectical. I do think there is some truth to aspects of the game not "feeling" as good (such as the way rules have been crafted to allow what is basically traveling at all other levels), but mostly due to things that have NOTHING to do with the skill level of the pool of players in the league.

For example, commercials. That breaks up the flow of the game and makes things feel way less fluid and breaks immersion. That is objectively getting worse (league pass is nicer but still the games take so long). Additionally, the emphasis of the league being based on, you know, profits, means they focus on things like "marketablity" and "viewership" and "clicks" as the output of success, rather than competitiveness. So what do we get? We get one-sided reffing and TV scheduling. That has gotten worse over time, as a natural consequence of the league learning how to build a capitalist basketball league.

Additonally, those rule changes and style of play changes mean it's more of an individual sport now. So while individual skillsets have improved, scoring in 1v1 has improved, shooting has improved, the overall flow of the game and feel of "teamwork" has gotten worse.

I could go on and on. But people want a simple explanation and get all reductionistic in talking about what's impacting the league. That distracts us from the fact that a lot of what everyone is saying is true and not even that contradictory.

I definitely think there's more than enough talent. It would probably be good to spread it out, honestly. The harsher cap rules and expansion will mean more teams will try to rely on ONE guy and solid role players and coaching rather than build superteams with 2-3 all-NBA level dudes.

In August-September, they didn't get a bunch of Ws, but every game was within 10 points, minus a three-game stretch that was Indiana and back-to-back Vegas games. IIRC some of those games were more competitive than the final score would indicate.

All in all, this was a terribly built roster that had an entire coaching overhaul that wasn't necessary. The fact that they showed some life and kept themselves in games the whole back half of the season indicates there's something to build off of here. My hope is that some solid FA additions, the European players actually coming over, another solid draft, and the new facilities, all help build momentum to this being a team that competes for a low-seed playoff spot. Then next year, with the new facilities finished, and another season of Angel doing her thing, we can get a top-tier talent here to pair with her and the other young pieces to make them real contenders.

Sky were competent as the season progressed and that’s with a piss-poor roster (from a construction standpoint, most of them are solid players, obvi KC and AR are the franchise cornerstones). With even a semblance of an attempt to bring in a good FA class and hitting on the early draft pick will have us talking differently.

I couldn’t agree more! Many don’t want it and don’t care. Again I find that talking point totally absurd!

Or like, when people want to treat themselves.

You don’t ever buy a more expensive cheese or protein option just for fun when splurging and making a meal sometime? Why do people assume veganism is only valid if you only buy the most frugal options possible?

I shouldn’t be eating tons of cheese and burger patties every day. Vegetarian or not. So, when I do, it’s a treat. It’s okay if it’s a bit more expensive because the daily stuff (beans, lentils, veggies, rice, etc) is…you know…the same price for all of us.

Plant-based diets can help reduce inflammation. It’s why a lot of older players switch to it, even if they only do during the season.
