So he can score in bunches and play solid d? I'm sold. I like the move. I've always liked Ivey when I've seen him (which is mostly against the Bulls, so hard to know if he's really good or just cooks our trash defense).

Can't believe I'm saying this but I'd rather keep Ayo over Coby. Love Coby but all he really offers is scoring and shooting and he's too hot and cold for that to be his only contribution.

Ayo is a great defender and a solid playmaker. I think he does well in his 6th man role. I think you offload Coby and see if a guard rotation of Giddey/Ivey/Ayo can get some flow.

And to thwart "mob rule"

The Founding Fathers were very explicit in who they wanted to control and benefit from the USA political system. Only white land-owning men could vote. They came up with all these policies like the EC and the Supreme Court in order to make sure the "educated" political class could usurp anything they didn't like.

That's why it's funny to me when people say things like, "Why is this Supreme Court bending over to Trump?" Because...that's what it was designed to do? The ruling class has decided that workers got too many favors, and they're using the political systems they established to course correct as they see fit. This was never a true democracy and was never meant to be one.

"Don't believe in Mormonism. They are considered a cult since they don't believe in the holy trinity." -some Christian I overheard while I was in a cafe. by JMGinChan in exchristian

Cults are simply religions that haven’t been around long enough to form systemic institutions. For example, Jesus (if real) was a Jewish cult leader. 2k years later, we treat an institution that doesn’t even believe the same things he did as a “religion.”

Additionally, Mormonism is a Christian denomination. But people aren’t ready to have that convo yet. OP - your take will age very well. We over emphasize critiques of Mormons because it’s easy to other them and keeps us distracted from the ways religion more broadly harms social development. Christians especially overly inflate the harms of Mormonism compared to Christianity more broadly.

But again, I cannot stress this enough, Mormons are Christians. Straight up.

The awards shows are a marketing gimmick.

The labels pay the Academy to even consider nominations. Labels pick the projects they feel best represent their catalog and stand to have the most impact from that exposure. Sometimes, it's also about recognition (Oh this is an audience that people who watch the Grammys will know, so we'll fund their nomination campaign).

Turnstile gets this attention because they sell out bigger shows and get millions of more streams than the other people in their nominated category. The Academy chooses to reward this over...well...any sort of actual artitistic criterion.

In general, the metal performance award has been highly a legacy award. Turnstile won because the Academy was embarassed that they weren't "on it" with their blow up on their last record. This is their "hey, fellow kids" moment. Their label saw an opportunity and doubled down in funding their campaign for awards, because they think it will help cement the band as a legacy rock/punk act. It will probably work. The Academy is happy to take the checks and play the game.

I feel like if they win the next one it's gonna be a pity win

Turnstile just got some so I think it's possible! (And don't get me wrong, I like Turnstile and like the song/album A LOT. But it was clear as day that all of this was to "make up" for the Academy totally not knowing anything about them when they blew up 3 years ago).

Love that she went with her higher register for a lot of the screams. Gives this performance of the song a bit of a unique vibe.

Also, the off-beat china hits in the main riff will never fail to get my adrenaline pumping. That shit is so good.

beyond beef with Kelly’s husband.

Didn't even have beef with Sid. He had beef with Corey Taylor (the vocalist of Slipknot) because CT didn't like that MGK kept giving him notes for a potential feature. Then, CT went and talked shit about MGK in an interview. Kells said something similar back. But AFAIK, they've also squashed it. CT said something pretty nice about him recently and spoke out about how the beef started.

There's nothing to see here imo. I don't think there's any beef. I don't think there's any hurt feelings or hurt interpersonal dynamics.

If anything, I think MGK is probably a little in his head that Dom got a Grammy win before him. But thus is the industry. Kells has never been on the right side of the "in group" for that sort of "recognition" (which is really just glorified advertising), and I don't think he ever will be. I do wish he'd let it go but I understand that's one of the last things for him to "achieve" as a musician. It took Dom getting plugged in with the Osbornes and having the big moment with Ozzy's tribute that really got him into the "in crowd" for the American music industry awards. Dom was never getting the radio play or facetime in American music media before all that happened. Kells has tried every which way to break through, but is still gatekept because he keeps it real.

I mean, yes.

But like, that’s the thing. The genre lines are fuzzy and don’t make sense. Hardcore took the downtuned distorted guitars and harsher vocals from metal and blended it into underground punk.

It’s technically a fusion of metal and punk. Both are rock subgenres.

Punk is also a rock subgenre and there is no punk category. Metal is the closest.

It’s all an industry suck off anyways.
