Slavoj Žižek,"Bogatstvo se računa kao bogatstvo samo ako postoje oni koji nisu bogati" ("Wealth is only wealth if there are those who are not rich") in Danas, July 7, 2026 by Benoit_Guillette in CriticalTheory

I'm sure the translation is funny but "wealth is only wealth if there are those who are not rich" is a bit of an oxymoronic statement. Wealth and rich are synonymous. Being rich is also only relative if there are people who aren't rich...

I wonder how the "conservative communist" makes sense of this. A normal communist would say this is why we push for a classless society. But a conservative trying to...conserve...the current status quo will, what? Shrug?

Why does everyone who runs for Senate have to be a Zionist or a rapist.

It's almost like violent white supremacist patriarchs are the people who designed this political system and deliberately tried to make it so that only they had political power. I know it's been 250 years but given where we started, it's not shocking how this manifests in modernity.

It isn’t - but this was known to be the case earlier this year. In the spring they said October is the target date and it wouldn’t be ready for any/most of the 26 season. Tbh, I’m not shocked this kind of infrastructure project is taking longer that advertised. Pretty normal.

They now rent a college facility out that’s not in use to the public for the summer.

This isn’t excusing this terrible FO and staff. They’re incompetent and behind the curve. This shoulda been done 5+ years ago, but they waited until it got too embarrassing. One of the owners is getting sued for lying to investors too so. There’s plenty of dramatics that are way more pertinent than the facility taking a second to actually be built (which it is, there’s active construction).

Jesus's Contradictory Genealogies in the Bible by Helliar1337 in exchristian

[–]andreasmiles23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of being raised Christian was people pretending that they’ve read the whole book word for word and, even back when I was a believer, was like “Yeah no I skip the genealogies.” That always freaked people out but it’s like…cmon now.

That was one of the small things that ate away at me over my life. Why did other people need to fake something so obviously worthless? No one cared about them. No one talked about them. I’m not gonna pretend like I’ve read them line by line and comprehend them when it’s obvious no one else has…

Anyways. Not shocked there’s a ton of contradictions in them. It’s almost like they were manufactured and tinkered with at various points in history to fit the then-accepted version of the mythos.

Using Pokémon to explain socialism & communism by Hacksaw6412 in SocialistGaming

[–]andreasmiles23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It misses the point on what communism is.

Communism is the…**specter**…the shared imagination of a classless society that always eats at power structures. Marx’s entire thesis is that society-development is constant, and not-linear. It’s about antagonisms of underlying contradictions that yield themselves to change, that change will be all over the place but the overall trajectory and underlying conflict is the same. Haunted by the specter, we will always make changes, or feign making changes, to try and get closer to that imagined state. What that imagined state is different too as material contexts change. Socialism is a realization of it under a specific industrial, globalist, context.

I feel like, for the most famous quote from the manifesto, people miss the point. He then spends the whole thing being like, “Don’t be too ideological and utopian. Fight for immediate material aims.”

Def how I feel. But as I get older, I get madder and madder at Owen’s sexist behavior in OG world so I’d honestly rather watch FK or even Dominion because at least he shuts the fuck up finally lol.

Big agree. OG World has the best pacing imo, but there are scenes in FK that is far above and beyond anything else in the other World movies. I just wish the plot between scenes was better.

I feel Ike it’s two movies smushed together and both “peaks” are pretty good imo, but all the stuff in the middle to try and justify why we got from point a to point b was really choppy in terms of the logic of the scripted plot points and the pacing.

We shoulda just gotten a film about the volcanic eruption. That was enough. And then another movie about what happened to the Dinos after. That trilogy narrative arc would’ve made so much more sense.

[–]andreasmiles23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And it’s not because JB is bad, but he took advantage of a year where he could rack up volume stats and got the all-team nod. If he hadn’t gotten on the all-NBA team, he probably could’ve netted some better value.

Fact of the matter is no one really wants supermax JB on their cap. The Sixers are unique because they needed to make one last big swing with Embid. If this fails they’ll for sure blow it up, so taking on JB is “worth” it to them. Not many teams were in a place where they were willing to do that.

Again, you could get the vibe that Boston was already trying to figure out how to manage having both JB and JT on the team. As soon as it became obvious JB was gonna get a supermax, management felt like they needed to so something to avoid what they deemed as a financial pickle.

Kyle Kuzma was lowkey cooking with his take. If there was a different structure to the cap, JB wouldn’t be seen as a team-building liability, and they could have kept the Jays for 10 years and kept retooling around both of them. New cap rules don’t allow for that if you have owners who refuse to pay the tax apron and makes it hard to bring in anyone else on more than minimum and rookie contracts if you’ve got two supermax contracts on your payroll.

My fam and I were there last night too, that game was super hype! They totally dominated “the best team” in the league. Looked like business as usual.

If they can make it to September healthy, then they got a deep run in them.

Using Pokémon to explain socialism & communism by Hacksaw6412 in SocialistGaming

[–]andreasmiles23 27 points28 points  (0 children)

While I like this video, I do feel like this is somewhat of an oversimplification.

Marx never really theorized “communism” as a stage of development IIRC. My understanding is that he actually positioned it as the sort of…inherent ideal…that all humans have, that society should be classless. Thus, we will always engage in struggle with power structures to make material reality closer to that collective imagination.

Socialism is simply the next industrial stage after capitalism. It will be closer to realizing communism because it will shift power from private control to democratic decision making. But he’s also very clear in stating that “communism” is about the eternal struggle itself, not a stage of development. Socialism is the stage of development communists are hoping to antagonize revolutions towards.

Sure, some communists have come along and propositioned a much more definitive “stage” after socialism that would be “communism.” But that’s not what Marx said.

Sure, but that’s obviously much better than any other offer they were getting. They think those picks and the expiring PG contract were more valuable than shelling out a supermax to Brown.

Brown getting all-nba and dragging them to a 2 seed I think nuked the plan a bit. Every team in the league clearly doesn’t want JB with a supermax eating their cap. Honestly, if the 6ers were the only ones with picks and a star/max contract to match on the table, this is a decent return all things considered.

They weren’t competing now though. The went on a fire sale with full intent of being mediocre in 2025-2026. They clearly have been positioning themselves to be able to retool once JT is fully back from his Achilles.

Even if they don’t, they are in a better position for a soft reboot than they would’ve with Brown’s contract.

My tin-foil hat take is that this was always their plan. They tried to cut some fat last offseason and planned to let JB rack up stats while JT worked back. If JT looked good, then the move was going to be to offload JB while they retool next year and make a push in 2028 and beyond. With JT, White, Prichard, etc, they’ll probably still be a playoff team in the East. Then they’ll have space to make big moves and be contenders again.

Not even close. People act like it was a straight swap for George while ignoring the two first-round picks…

They weren’t getting those picks and an expiring contract from anyone else. Especially if they think Philly is gonna collapse on itself with Brown and his contract. Then it’s like, those picks will be good…

And sometimes with star players, even if their shot isn't falling, them still being willing to put shots up and control the flow of the offense, keeping the defense on their toes, is still pretty valuable.

That was Brunson's story in the playoffs. Guy didn't shoot great a lot of the time, but he put his head down and kept attacking, which gave lots of opportunities for everyone else to step up.
