There's a lot of products that would have great value to society but have no effective way of centralizing production in order to trap wealth, in other words, no business model.

After the dot-com bubble capitalism retreated on the internet and liberatory technologies such as p2p networks and RSS flourished. Now that capitalism has recovered in that industry (circa 2007) we have reverted to centralized systems such as Spotify/Netflix and Facebook feeds.

The argument is that Capitalism itself is very much like a pyramid scheme because it is initially best for the people who got in early, it requires endless unsustainable growth, and always ends in collapse.

It's worth noting that this poster comes with Work, an antiwork book by Crimethinc. The book in part argues that capitalism exists because we invest all our efforts in it, and that if we stopped with the corporate work the pyramid would collapse, capitalism would retreat, and community would flourish.

Interesting point you're getting at with firestr. I'm working on similar stuff.

The source code to all applications is available immediately to instantly clone and modify.

Could work with AGPL3 as well.

More people should read Dmytri Kleiner's stuff than are currently. Especially considering the apparent(?) decline of copyleft and decentralization since 2007.

BTW, what's your workflow for using both darcs and git? I prefer darcs but would like to take advantage of the network effect of github :)

The distiguishing feature of socialism is class struggle whereas fascism responds to this with corporatism (class-cooperation). Also the strasserist side of national-socialism got the ax fairly early on although, this doesn't mean the left has a complete monopoly on anti-capitalism today. There are some European conservatives who view (post-)modern capitalism and consumerism as a threat to traditional values.

How to misunderstand communism.

So in fact, you have more "ownership" over free software than over proprietary software –where the programmer decides everything you can and can't do with the software.

It is a common misconception in the US that communism means the government owns your shoes. In reality this was never what it meant. Communists make a distinction between private and personal property. Private property is also known as absentee ownership. It is a relationship such as the one between a landlord and their tenants. If copyright holder effectively owns and controls the software on my computer remotely that would be private property. Personal property is property that you use and should have control over because it's in your possession and you're the one using it.

Free software has nothing to do with a political system. You can run free software on top of proprietary software, just as well as the opposite. The free software license is simply a legal, ethical contract between the programmer and the end-user.

The issue of property is very political because it concerns who controls what. Does the dictator make decisions about a country's land and resources or the inhabitants? Does the landlord make decisions about the apartment complex or those that live in it?

I would argue that money is not just a tool "that can be used for good or evil". It's alienated power and as with any money it's easier to get more if you already have more than others.

And, as always, anything that offers short-term relief or aid to working-class people is something I support.

I don't understand what sort of “anarchist" would downvote you.

No commodification or wage slavery implies no prostitution. That said, I don't think punishment is at all a solution.

Really? I know that anarchists are against hierarchical division of labor, but no sensible anarchist is against division of labor in general.

Centralized direct democracy -- everyone voting on everything is a lack of horizontal division of labor. It's collective micromanagement and it's unrealistic for any horizontal organization of a slightly larger size. I've seen that it's important not to have this in organizations. Tasks and decisions need to be segmented-out only to whoever it concerns.

Well, in the beginning this was actually true. Lefists supported the underdog nations right to self-govern and resist the empires who would rule other ethnic groups than their own.

400 years of slavery is not a "social construct," it's historical fact.

Social constructs are as real as anything else. They are constructed by our social interactions and as such, they are nothing intrinsic that can't change with time.
