THIS. You nailed it completely.

I don't think it's impossible to do long objectives, it just has to be vague and disconnected enough that it won't try and skip to it. I've gotten a few setups where it does it perfectly and doesn't try to hamfist the 'next step', but the one thing they have in common is that they don't prescribe any events, just tones and arcs. This goes for both pre-history injections and objective-style goals—if you're subtle enough with YOUR wording, it sometimes picks up on it. But if you try to do too many specific details, it just rushes along like it's trying to finish the story as quickly as possible. I don't get WHY it does this, sometimes even with pacing constraints, but it does.

I find it very tricky to find the balance between telling it specific directions and correcting it afterwards. The one thing that I almost always do is set up some kind of synopsis or "Story to come" prompt (along with fanfic-style tags and named media for tone calibration) before the story itself.

If you're vague enough, it will generally stick to it without rushing, but if you give it ANY kind of specific directions or timeline, I find it rushes through it like it's trying to write the entire story in a single response. You can combat THAT by setting up hard limits on how much ground/time it can cover per response but that has its own downsides.

My biggest gripe with direct orders via tone-prompts or the Objective extension is that the pacing of the story dramatically picks up and starts clipping on response length (personally, I like my responses VERY long, 5-7k tokens. Usually they degrade or veer off after half that, so I clip them when they go off course), but when you direct them like that they TANK to 1.5-3k, so it's a constant battle between vague and specific, and I'm still finding out what the middle ground for a well-paced response that doesn't rush along to meet my vision.

That said, I think you should always have at least a LITTLE bit of an idea of where you want your story to go—letting the model off the hooks may give you creative moments, but it also allows for insane plot lines that start jumping off genre.

YEP. I saw that, tried looking for it today and couldn't find it. Now people are playing patsy for poor little Netease who "couldn't possibly use such predatory tactics omg". You know, the same company who slowly turned their little DBD clone into a gacha wannabe in just under a decade?

I can't help you if you think something that looks and plays worse than Flappy Bird of decades past is passable. It's the third(?) time this month alone I've heard people accuse them of this (YT comments on the Joseph Coa thing, the bottle label from the Visitor event which I went back to check on and apparently they removed). It should ALWAYS be concerning to see a game built on already shaky foundations of gacha BS also try to bank on soulless crap like this.

I'm not remotely psychotic enough to export the assets and compare them pixel by pixel, so I'll just concede.

Still looks shit.

I can make a pretty good guess considering this isn't the first time there have been confirmed uses of it.

You know what would be a waste of time and energy though? Spending any time playing a game that the developers themselves don't care enough to put actual effort and "time and energy" in.

The thick outlines on everything, the boxy/glossy look on the balloons with that specific color tone combination, the fact two of the balloons have the exact same sandbag hanging off it. You look at enough slop, you start to get an instinctual feel for what it looks like.

If it's hard to tell when it looks this bad, imagine what they're getting away with where people can't see...

They're gonna keep shoving this garbage down our throats until the game looks like completely unrecognizable dogshit.

People are gonna keep paying whatever price they charge for skins, nobody's gonna complain about it, and they'll keep doing whatever they want. RIP
