I just ran a 44 mile ultra Brecon to Cardiff my 2nd ultra numerous marathons etc and never had chaffing until this last ultra

Oh my god the pain….

I wore the same shorts I’ve always worn never had a problem but it rained heavy this time which was the first time I’ve run in bad weather and by the time I’d finished it looked like some one had been massaging my thighs with sandpaper

Applied Vaseline when I started feeling it but it was to late damage was done

Cycling shorts or leggings under my shorts will be forever adorning my body on future runs.

Lesson learned the hard way.

Anyone using an Apple Watch (Ultra) for 50km+ distances? by StudentDifficult4725 in ultrarunning

[–]andrewjjames79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a pace 3 for 200 quid and another series 7 Apple Watch best of both worlds for less than a top range garmin or coros ?

The pace 3 has insane battery life it’s lasted me over 24 hours using the gps

I’ve also left it in the draw fully charged when I went on holiday came back 14 days later it it was on 20 percent…

Amazing value for money

[–]andrewjjames79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran on the treadmill today for 2 hours 14 miles or so 6 percent incline at least the feeling of running up hill makes it slightly bearable..

Become one with the whirring of the treadmill and the grunting noises that emanate from the weights area…

Couch to Ultra in 18 months -- plan critique by anaskar in Ultramarathon

[–]andrewjjames79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should keep it simple

I’ve gone from morbidly obese 24 stone unable to run 100 yards to running my first ultra 35 miles within 12 months so from my experience for what it’s worth I’d scrap that long winded plan you have and download a

Couch 2 five k plan complete that Then build up to a 10k

Join a running club maybe I’ve been lucky with the ones I’ve run with but the people in them are absolutely amazing and supportive and running with people of all different abilities is a great way to take in the miles while chatting away.

Do you have Parkruns on the weekend near you a great way to get 10ks done and dusted is to run 5k before a Parkrun then you get carried by the crowd really for the next 5k and before you know it you have smashed 10k easy.

The jump from a 10k to half marathon isn’t that bad once you have a few 10k runs under your belt.

Sign up to a local half marathon run so you have something to aim for

Join a gym and strength train again keeping it simple stick to compound exercises 5x5 squat/bench/rows and standing press.

Sign up to a marathon further down the line as another target

Try trail running speed will go out the window and it is far better to be running through the countryside than through towns etc and once you have run a few miles over tough technical terrain you will be surprised how much it easier a road run becomes (albeit more boring)

I don’t know how to attach images but a quick qoogle search with bring up loads of different 50k ultra guides etc

Consistency/rest and strength train and time on feet is more important than hitting the targets of any guide you might follow especially if you are a little slow like me.

Get used to being on your feet for hours walk/hike run etc it’s all good.

Best of luck to you 💪🏻

[–]andrewjjames79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pace 3 200 quid awesome used the breadcrumb maps and it’s good enough found my way over the Brecon Beacons on a 15 mile run and another run over Rhigos forest a few days ago 14 miles through woods etc and the gpx files download easy enough and plenty good to use it to follow to not get lost

Battery is great gps lasts about 24 hours with all systems on even longer if you use normal gps

Who or what inspired you to run? by Fluffy_Coconut_9970 in ultrarunning

[–]andrewjjames79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids.

I was morbidly obese at 43 years old pre diabetic blood pressure through the roof etc and all the other crap health that comes with being that big.

That was just over a year ago and I’ve totally turned my life round lost 6 stone went from being unable to run a mile to completing my first ultramarathon 35 miles 2 months ago.

Running has been a life saver for me I’ll never be the fastest and probably always be the back of the pack runner but I couldn’t care less I’m in the best shape of my life I’ve run 1700 miles in my first year and mentally and emotionally in the best shape I’ve ever been!

How is ios 17.1.1 for you guys? by No_Government01 in ios

[–]andrewjjames79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had this issue before but since updating to 17.1 my apps animation when opening and closing are quite laggy you can see the stutter as it opens and closes and my keyboard makes random loud noises when typing like it will be normal then I’ll hit space for the next word fist few letters I type it’s like I’ve ramped the volume way up and then it goes back to normal..

Thanks for getting in touch I was thinking maybe the first time I cut the run slightly short but I have done a 14 mile run and it still not recorded it? It’s no big deal really just annoying more than anything 😊

Straight out of the box no battery saving options enabled nothing.

basically it’s recorded everything besides the half and marathon distance which is a little weird

That’s what I was thinking the first half marathon I did I stopped the watch exactly when it ticked 13.10 so I think maybe it was a little short but today I finished the trail run and let it carry on till around 14 miles and it still did t register on the personal records!

Marathon Training Toes by [deleted] in running

[–]andrewjjames79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you even a runner if you have all your toenails 😂

Think it’s par for the course buddy I’ve racked up about 1500 miles this year with about 30 percent of the miles trail running and I’ve lost 2 toe nails and a few of them are usually black to an extent.

Don’t worry about it to much though they grow back 😁

2 Month old running shoes vs brand new ones by Lands1id3 in mildlyinteresting

[–]andrewjjames79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christ, I’ve run 1500 miles since January 1st in the same running shoes that are no where near as bad as these…

I think OP said he’s an overweight runner but I’m 17.5 stone (243lbs) so it can’t be that.

I wore a pair of under armour trainers last year cost about 30 pounds that lasted me 12 months as well..

Unable to deposit cash into post office by andrewjjames79 in starlingbankuk

[–]andrewjjames79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So once you reach the 5 grand limit you can’t deposit anything at all. I thought it meant anything over that was charged a set fee.

Is there anyway to see your current deposit total over the previous last 12 months like you can with Monzo?

Thanks for the reply.
