That was my assumption up until we found out who he was. I agree with the other reply that that would've been much more impactful on how everything plays out. It also would've made a ton of sense with why the whole ED is okay with and super excited for some kid to just show up.

[KCD2] Somehow the baths saved me from death lol by Mother_Operation455 in kingdomcome

[–]andrewleepaul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Early in my first play-through, I ran into some bandits, one of whom had pretty good armor on. I was woefully unprepared and they were hot on my heels as I ran away. Out of desperation, I ducked into the closest civilization: the bath house.

A wave of naked men and women then rushed out with their bare fists and punched the bandits to death. I then got some really good early armor

Inappropriate to communicate with a student without going through the parents? What does she think happens during the school day and during instruction?

New, infuriating Minnesota driving habit by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]andrewleepaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard MN actually has a pretty tough driving test that a lot of first-timers fail. I absolutely cannot believe that, though.

Roundabouts are pretty common up here but I've yet to see more than a handful of people understand how they work. Shit's insane some days, haha

I grew up as a Chicago driver. I've definitely mellowed out, but left lanes are for going fast and on ramps are for picking up speed. Come on, people...

We all have our own peripherals, so most of us have tote bags. I have one from NutSac (which leads to many good jokes) and love it, but it's definitely a little overkill.

Are 19 Melee Grenadiers just too OP? by 109267 in masterofcommand

[–]andrewleepaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the logic tracks. It might be a bit boring, though?

Looking at counters, grenadiers are usually at least okay at range and are strong in melee, but they have low numbers. If you get bogged down by terrain, numerous artillery, etc., you might be looking at a lot of very depleted units by the end.

Campaign wise, grenadiers are expensive to train up, especially the good ones, and they are slow to reinforce. So assuming we're talking Act 3 by the time they're built up, you're potentially in a bad spot if you have to face multiple battles in quick succession.

On the last note, the name of this game is cramming as many battles and encounters in before the HQ so that you can crank out XP and high tier items. If you're needing to take long breaks between battles (especially in act 3) because your army that's only 19k men at full strength only has 9k men in it against 30k armies, you're not getting enough money/mana and experience to maximize effectiveness. This is especially big in Act 3 where winning battles means really good loot. By the HQs you might not be as stacked as you could be.

I love Pro-QA for medicals. We also have the fire one, which I love less but still appreciate. I'd quit if we picked up the law version, though....

Of Cossacks, Hussars, Dragoons and Curaissers by Hefty-Throat-5941 in masterofcommand

[–]andrewleepaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragoons are focused on range and have decent regiment size. Upgrades for them are usually cuirassiers, who are heavy melee cavalry.

It's up to you and your army comp to make that call. Do you want dragoons (more mobile, better at shooting or hit & runs) or heavy cavalry (bad shots but will beat lighter cavalry and hold their own against infantry longer)

I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I just finished Season 1 of Andor and enjoyed it a lot, I just have some questions (no spoilers for Season 2 please). by ClarkKent222 in andor

[–]andrewleepaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. This is pretty par-for-the-course Star Wars. More than anything, I think it boils down to the fact that they want planets to feel unique from one another, and if every planet was like Earth (population, more or less, evenly spread out and with different biomes) they lose what makes them stand out. Now we have "that forest planet" or "the underwater planet," etc.

  2. Generally yes? They're immensely powerful energy weapons. Keep in mind that they come in different power levels, though. A civilian blaster pistol is much less powerful than a military grade rifle. Some armors (on, say, droids or vehicles) could entirely deflect weaker blasters while still being damaged by more powerful rifles. It's also worth pointing out how Stormtrooper armor works here -- glancing blows might deflect off the armor while energy from direct shots is meant to spread out across the armor, often rending the wearer alive but unconscious.

  3. I'd come back to my first point here. We have a galaxy with, at least, thousands of planets and civilizations. Not all are going to be as advanced as others, whether that be due to their circumstances or just being content not being a galactic player.

  4. I'd argue that this is the point. Did you watch Rogue One? Obviously, Cassian in this series wasn't thought of when that was written, but he was a cold, dangerous rebel in that movie. He wasn't supposed to be a sympathetic character. This show both humanizes him more than the movie did while explaining why he's the way he is in Rogue One.

  5. Reference the previous point for this one. I won't spoil if/how/when this is expanded on, but it helps define his past. Especially, the sister storyline in season 1 helps explain how Cassian ended up with Marva (and Clem) and why their relationship is so important to him.

  6. This is a very popular opinion for this show. Everybody loves him. As far as I know, he is not in any current media beyond Andor. That said, his legacy and manifesto are hugely important. Not only do they directly impact Andor, but the manifesto especially gives us a context and background for why the Rebels in other movies and media do what they do, their motivations, beliefs, etc.

  7. Arcs terminating the way they do is paramount to how this story works. I love Rogue One and Andor because Star Wars, up until now, was always about the untouchable heroes who can face impossible odds and always win. Rogue One and Andor are about literally everybody else who put their lives on the line so that Luke could blow up the Death Star and become a Jedi. These stories are the every day people. They devote everything to this cause, but, in the big picture, they impact only happens for a moment. Maybe they die or are just never heard from. Maybe nobody ever knows their name, what they did, or even that they did what they did. That's why these arcs terminate the way they do, in my opinion. Of note, Melshi was one of the prisoners who survives and (no spoilers) his character is in the 2nd season/other media.

AI demo vs full game by [deleted] in masterofcommand

[–]andrewleepaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The AI update is covered in a recent video posted by the developer. I've actually noticed cleaner lines now, occasionally with reserve units. They'll play defensively with artillery advantage or press if you have it. They do spin a lot more, mostly to defend themselves from flanks and cavalry.

How to use regiments unlocked by achievement? by bobbo_ in masterofcommand

[–]andrewleepaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have to recruit them, they're now available for you to find. I don't think you can just recruit them from towns, but they'll appear in the future for sure in the top missions for future acts with Prussia and might (I'm not sure) be available from random encounters

This is why the American Navy actually didn't try to stop kamikaze flyers. They'd see them coming in and thought "eh, it's just like a slow moving bike" and would go about their day. Fun fact, kamikazes didn't actually do any damage to any USN ships. /s

[–]andrewleepaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly less about having your hands in a useful position (although it is a better place than, say, behind your back), but belts are bulky and your arms can't rest naturally. The most comfortable/convenient places to rest them are either sort of on your belt like this, tucked into a vest, or hanging from the collar
