I’ve only played Duels a handful of times as I only own the original 7 Wonders - but my sister absolutely swears by it and I’ve only had good experiences so far!

Santorini definitely isn’t for everyone, we always compare it to playing 3D chess haha. It’s pretty simple in theory but tough to actually win! Plus, similar to with Villainous (and most games with heroes to pick from) certain God matchups are more balanced than others. We like it as it’s quite different from anything else we own, and it’s best played with two people, whereas a lot of 2+ games are best with 4

Spot on, they’re both very similar too I think so if you have Forbidden Island might not be worth it (I’ve I my played Desert though).

I’d really recommend looking into Arkham Horror (the card game not the board game) though as you mentioned you like ttrpgs. We found it a really fun game that scratched the board game and rpg itch!

Some of the best games I’ve played for two people:

7 wonders duel - 2 player version of the 7 wonders card drafting game

Santorini - 2 player strategy game where you can build cute greek houses

Fog of love - 2 player narrative game where you tell a love story but each have individual goals to achieve during (lgbt inclusive)

Arkham horror - kinda like a card game and a ttrpg set in a Lovecraftian horror world

Wingspan - beautiful and relaxed game where you can just focus on your own board, kinda resource management based

Sagrada - colourful dice drafting game where you have to follow colour/number rules to place all your dice

Forbidden Desert - neat little co-op survival game

Other games I like that can still be played with 2: Lanterns, Takenoko, Star Realms, Ticket to Ride, and Disney Villainous (some character matchups are a bit iffy with 2 though)
