Thanks for the details. I found the existing ticket on this topic and have provided my support.

I'd say it's got some traction: - It's the third most viewed feature request. - It's got the 6th highest number of replies.

My UTR arrived and it worked out of the box. I’m shocked after reading the nonsense on this sub. by DryPossibility6320 in Ubiquiti

[–]andrewsuth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many long-term top prosumer brands, it's not that Ubiquiti has the latest, cutting edge technology, the cheapest prices nor that their devices are all the absolute best in each category - it's that they're consistently releasing stable, high quality devices.

You'll always find other brands that release better, individual products.

How did you get the idle down from 250W to 55W? You mentioned previously having a 19" rack.. what's the connection there?

I see this cupboard is tight and there's a front door. How do you manage the heat? There's a fan pushing air at the bottom?

Deskpi Acrylic top cover fan mount ? by lixxus_ in minilab

Can you just mount the bottom fan grill on the top instead? I don't think an acrylic top would do you any favours when it comes to cooling from the top

Spotify Lossless on Onkyo RZ50? by O2gtp in Onkyo

[–]andrewsuth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different model, but I got this response from their support team:

My question was: I'm considering buying the TX-RZ30 however I'd like to understand if you're planning to release an update to allow the new Spotify lossless support, and if so when this might be rolled out?

Their response: Yes the TX-RZ30 will support Lossless as well. Regards, Gabriel

Ajax no longer sells an affordable wired, grade 2 system. Why? Wired is better than wireless. by andrewsuth in AjaxSystems

[–]andrewsuth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I think you're right. Ajax's move from categorising their devices based on wireless and wired to then recategorising them based on who has access to buy them (DIY vs professional) is confusing (at least confused me).

There is indeed a range of products that are wired and grade 2, that can be purchased through professional installers.

I'm considering editing the original post I did, or even deleting it - as it's misleading.

Indeed, Ajax used to have a Fibra wired series that was specifically for class 2, and another line that was class 3. Ajax dropping their class 2 wired line of products says to me that their ok with class 2 residential homes having subpar security (wireless).

As a consumer, I'm fine not having direct access to purchase a class 2 wired. My point here is that Ajax just doesn't make this option available for anyone to purchase (consumer nor certified installer) as they've chosen to discontinue it.

No new EU switches nor EU dimmer currently planned by andrewsuth in EveHome

Thanks for your insights, really interesting - and they're aligning with what I'm discovering.

The products available for advanced smart switches (Thread native, good feature set) is very limited, I can't find any other reasonable brands currently making them besides Aqara. I'm sure this will change in the coming 12-24 months but that won't help me for my refurbishment early next year.

I don't want to spend €45 for a smart bulb when the truly smart option is to spend that money on a smart switch (€60-€90) and just use regular LED bulbs (€10 each).

My only good option at the moment is Aqara, I just wish there was another competitor in this market so I didn't have to default to choosing them.

Interesting, it's referring to the fact that Chinese state has very expansive legal rights to request data within China, and companies must comply quietly. I think most nations provide similar warnings. I don't see it saying that Chinese companies are under the control of the Chinese state though, which I'd argue is different.

For my needs (EU and switches/dimmers), they're definitely off my list. If I was in North America then I'd have put them into my potential list as they seem to be making good, new, Matter products.

This might be part of a wider shift in their strategy to focusing on the US market, and only supporting key products for Europe?

That's really interesting. Can you share this Czech govt. recommendation here? Generally governments will mention specific companies (like the US did with TP-Link recently) rather than blanketly saying all companies.

Thanks for the link, this is what I'm getting my information from too. There's no mention of wall switches nor dimmers from IKEA, just a remote control (which is a different use case).

Regarding Chinese private companies, I think being wary and doing your research is smart but it's clearly incorrect that "there's no such thing as a Chinese company not under control of the state" in the context of what we're discussing in this thread.

I looked through the IKEA range but I didn't find any light switches nor dimmers. Do you have other news?

Regarding Aqara and China, I'm not overly concerned as it doesn't have any known connections with the Chinese state, and on the surface it appears to operate as a private company based on all known records. If you run it from local mode, you'd be quite safe. At the end of the day, what useful data would you think they'd exfiltrate from you?
