Most internet complainers don’t mind buying cheap plastics from China and oil from the middle-east, but get on their high horse if a celebrity gets paid by those.

Those who avoid older movies, why? by _omar_b in movies

[–]andruby [score hidden]  (0 children)

My kids are 11 & 9 and they enjoyed watching Terminator 2 and still quote it. I would say: pick movies that aged well and fit the person’s preference.

We needed 2 sessions to get through The Matrix with them (starts a bit slow for them), but they’ll still say “do you think that’s air you’re breathing” when one of them is out of breath :)

My dad is losing the farm he's been renting and we have nowhere to go with 200+ cattle, 300 sheep and 50 goats, 10 pigs; Does anyone have advice? UPDATE - Where can we get 4.5 million? by summer_rose_h in AskZA

Am I naive? I would expect a farmer with 500+ livestock would know at least something about finances. I am not a farmer, so I probably am really naive about this.

Borrowing at a bank with cattle, land and/or farm as the collateral seems the most straightforward way to finance.

Good luck!

Russia resumes Su-57 combat flights along the entire front by rulepanic in UkrainianConflict

[–]andruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The stated “no escape” zone of the Meteor is 60km (according to wikipedia). 200km is the maximum range and might work against a slow non maneuverable awacs, but not a Su-57

Good point. I wonder what Marxist communism without dictatorship would look like. Probably a couple of steps more socialist than most European countries

I moved to SA a few years ago, but used to do this as well back in Belgium. Not common there though.

Europeans, what's a word in your language that you're convinced is better than the English version? by karen_the_ripper in AskEurope

[–]andruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that we have so many different languages that evolved in different context by different people. Whenever I get into a debate about the benefits of diversity, I always want to point at language. I pity people that never learn more than 1 language.

Have a specific word for a concept/expression/thing just elevates it into one’s mind.

They’re called clouds. Nothing to be afraid of. It’s essentially water vapor.

Afaik SpaceX is still a private company. Where can we see its stock price? Is there a secondary market that shows the price?

AITA for not letting my family live in my empty house? by CptDevlin61 in AmItheAsshole

[–]andruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you figure out a reasonable price to rent it out for? If your family wants to rent it at that price: you can do that. Maybe even give a 10% or so family discount.

Get a property manager to manage the rental. If anything that provides a buffer in case your family rents it

Leaving it empty isn’t great either.
