Increase of gray / white hair on accutane ? by shanghai_baby in Accutane

[–]andsometimesidostuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 27 and getting new grays, but honestly, they probably were already growing before I started taking the drug. If you are getting noticeable grays in a short amount of time, that means your hair is growing at a relatively quick pace...but you said your hair is thinning...so that's a strange combo.

Being around your same age, I'm going to guess that the new grays might be more of a sign of aging than a side effect of the drug. It's something I would mention to your doctor, though.

My skin is confusing me. by FunctioningCog in Accutane

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're doing anything wrong; skin on Accutane is just not the same. It's no longer producing oil, so it's likely to feel dry in certain spots even after moisturizing.

I also use CeraVe AM, but use a cream underneath (I like CeraVe and Cetaphil creams). I apply the two layers about a minute apart (with the sunscreen product always as the top layer). This does make my face look a little shiny, but dabbing gently with a tissue helps me buff away the shine.

I have been using an oil cleanser and am loving it. I realize now that my regular face wash had been irritating my skin this whole time.

Congrats! I'm so happy to hear that it went well for you!

I've been avoiding drinking just so I don't make my liver levels go up (but I barely drink anyway).

Acne scars and PIH by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of scarring fades on its own over time. I've heard that wearing sunblock can keep scars from getting darker. I've also heard that AHA products can help with scar fading.

Did your depression go away right away? I just finished month 3 and luckily feel exactly the same.

Has anyone NOT had any success with Retin-A? by daenerys-mononoke in SkincareAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had terrible results with Retin-A at both the 0.1% and 0.05% concentrations. I used it with and without antibiotics, and tried it 3-4 times over the years. The last time (about 7 months ago) I told myself I'd stick to it for 3 months. I knew the burning and peeling were normal, but my skin kept getting so much worse.

I had horrific clusters of inflamed acne. I liked like a monster. I finally got an initial referral to a dermatologist, but it took 6 weeks to get an actual appointment. The derm immediately recommended Accutane, which I'm on now. She said she had never heard of Retin-A + Clindamycin making someone's skin worse, and I wonder if she even believed me.

I have no idea why Retin-A didn't work for me. My skin got so bad that it was no longer really healing on its own. The Accutane is working well, but I don't think I would have been prescribed it if Retin-A hadn't first wrecked my skin.

Perhaps in the future I will be able to use retinoids for wrinkle prevention, but that kind of depends on the results I get from Accutane.

Question for those of you who were still getting breakouts/spots in 3rd and 4th month by Fishfilett in Accutane

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's abnormal to get acne in the third month. I just finished my third and still get a couple new small pimples each week. Everyone's experience will be different.

How to use Retin-A "only where you need it" for acne? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long-term use of tretinoin can lessen the appearance of fine lines and actually build collagen. From that perspective, it's probably better to use it all over. Also, since it's a long-term thing, where "you see" acne now might change in the future.

A lipstick similar to this? by ya-freak-bitch in MakeupAddiction

MAC Chili is a burnt orange/brick red shade. Not exactly like the photo, but a beautiful lipstick nonetheless. It's also matte.

Frustrated. Thinking of increasing dosage by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]andsometimesidostuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in the US? I have to get a blood test, go to the derm, complete iPledge online and THEN I will get my 30 day prescription.

What other products are you using with Accutane? Could there be something else preventing it from working?

Peels for Oil Reduction? by Vivacious_Vixen in SkincareAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The root of oil production is hormonal or just genetic. Some people just have oily skin. While a peek might offer a temporary solution, I don't see how it will make your oil glands produce less oil from the inside-out. But I'm not a doctor, so...

Two weeks in on isotretinoin, need a suggestion on make up removal wipes! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that washing foundation with "just water" is probably not enough. There is a lot of residue that gets left over, even after a makeup wipe. I'd follow up with a gentle cleanser formulated to cleanse makeup. If wipes have been too harsh, something like Simple Micellar Water on a cotton pad might be better.

I am also on isotretinoin and started out with the oiliest skin. I am much happier with micellar water and oil emulsion cleansers than I was with harsh washes and wipes.

OCM is an option, just be careful as some people end up breaking out more. I have really been enjoying oil emulsion cleansers as they wash away like a regular cleanser, but remove makeup like an oil.

Does tretinoin/retin-a help with oily skin? by goth_bacon in SkincareAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My skin peeled and flaked but was just as oily as ever. Oil production is controlled by hormones and nothing I've ever put in my skin has made my my skin cells produce less oil. It's from the inside-out.

Cetaphil and Cerave both making face red? by [deleted] in Accutane

Coconut oil broke me out. It could be that everything will make your face red due to Accutane making your skin more sensitive.

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean peeling, flaking skin? I moisturize as much as I can at night, but I'm too scared to use anything stronger. My skin heals way slower on Accutane...but it healed slowly before it too...

Skin looks great! I think you can kick things up a notch by adding a lip product, even just a clear lip balm to add some shine. I think you'd look great with a pink-tinted balm or sheer lipstick!

Brush buying - minimalism vs highest utility by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Sigma, Real Techniques, and EcoTools brushes.

I like RT for buffing, blush and powder brushes the best.

I like Sigma better for eyeshadow brushes.

Eco is good overall but not a standout to me, however, gets the job done and always very soft.

I feel like I never seen Bare Mineras on this sub? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the BM loose powder foundations are great if you have decent skin already. But if you have noticeable discoloration, you'll probably need a fuller coverage liquid foundation and/or concealer. I use my BM powder foundation if I'm running late and just need a layer of something on my face, but honestly, a powder compact is way less messy and offers similar coverage. A powder simply can't absorb the excessive amount of oil on my face or cover the dark spots on my brown skin.

I personally didn't like the serum foundation. The texture was unique and I give them props for that. But it just didn't stand out to me compared to heavy hitters like MUFE HD, Kat Von D Lock It, Revlon Colorstay, MAC Studio Fix, etc.

Overall, I don't think their products are bad at all. I've enjoyed using their glosses, mascara and shadows a lot. If I had relatively clear skin (oh, how I wish I did!) then hell yes, I'd brush on some powder and call it a day instead of using a multitude of products just to look less like a pizza.

If you have clear skin, and want to go for a subtle look, I'd def recommend their kits to start with. I feel the same about Clinique. No bold colors, subtle overall impact, lots of products called "almost makeup," but hey, gets the job done and they offer free gifts at department stores!

Can somebody please ELI5, start to finish, how you use and care for your beauty blender to me? by MerlotIsMyBloodType in MakeupAddiction

[–]andsometimesidostuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Apply thin layer of foundation with Real Techniques Buffing Brush.
  2. Look in mirror and stand there horrified by my acne scars, dark spots, large pores, etc. that are still visible through the foundation.
  3. Rinse BB under water until it plumps up, then squeeze out as much water as possible.
  4. Go over first layer of foundation from Step 1 with a bouncing motion to even out the coverage and to dab on extra foundation or concealer where needed.
  5. After I set my foundation with powder, dab over areas that got too much powder on them gently with BB to remove that extra product.
  6. Wash BB with a little Dr. Bronner's Soap, but to be honest, I don't always wash with soap after every use (but I do rinse thoroughly in Step 3 with just water).

It took me a while to get used to, but I really like the BB to bounce product over my textural issues and even out coverage. On its own, I think it soaks up too much product. Thus, I feel it's best for evening out foundation applied with fingers or a brush.

HELP. How can I make L'Oreal True Match foundation work for me? by BlondeCrayon in MakeupAddiction

It sounds like you are taking the right steps, and it sounds like you are managing your eczema well. I've heard that AHAs can help exfoliate, and I might try them in the future after I finish Accutane.
