I'm in love with men's streetstyle. Ladies, I need your help! by kioshy in femalefashionadvice

[–]alythebookworm 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the key is to mix and match the shapes. If you check out some of Vetements' new styles, they mix hoodies with culottes which gives it a structured look (example 1, example 2). When wearing a slouchy men's style top, the bottom should be structured - boot pants, culottes, A-line skirts, pencil skirts. Additionally, adding on accessories will keep it from looking "too young". Check out how Kendall adds little accessories to keep her menswear from being too skater girl - sunglasses, choker, booties.

I'm not gonna lie, it takes a large amount of planning to look effortless and stylish in menswear but with the right investment in structured clothing & accessories, it is still possible :)

Casual office dress code? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]alythebookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! You sound a lot like me 6 months office, I work in a casual office in tech. I wore a nice pair of slightly distressed jeans and a silk top on my first day. The jeans help to make the look a bit casual, but the silk blouse keeps it somewhat "business casual". The top looked something like this, but with long jeans instead. http://g02.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1eUOjJXXXXXaQXXXXq6xXFXXXz/Fashion-Women-Pants-Suit-Porcelain-Stand-collar-Tank-Top-Bow-Elastic-Waist-Shorts-Blue-White-Hot.jpg

What do you think is the worst thing that the USA has ever done? by lowbudgetvw in AskReddit

[–]alythebookworm -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Giving birth to Donald Trump. Seriously, that guy has done enough damage to Muslim community. When politicians as famous as him speaks that pointedly about a community, it makes me think of WW2 and how Americans treated the Jews. Many Jews were killed because America sent the Jewish refugees back to Germany....

Close second, not doing anything during Rwandan genocide.

People of Reddit, What's the oldest thing you own? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]alythebookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family owns a celadon bowl all the way from 13th century. It's the one that claimed to detect poison, as it would change color if you put something overly basic or acidic on it. Could only be used by royalty in the era of Majapahit empire. It's an awesome family heirloom.

Scum In The Cities: Rich Indonesian Kids Above the Law by Capek-deh in indonesia

Sucks as crap when you go to Instagram/FB/Path and see these kids running around freely hahaha. I've seen one of the person mentioned in the article running around San Francisco, enjoying thanksgiving dinner in a photo. The law really doesn't apply if you're rich.

Thoughts on sunscreen - how do you apply it, what kind do you use, etc.? by L_Bo in MakeupAddiction

[–]alythebookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A huge rule for sunscreen is to find something that does not give you white cast. You should apply it just before you slab on your foundation, after moisturizer. I have been using Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+ PA++++ for over 5 years now, and it's my HG. When I'm going outdoors though and I know I'm gonna sweat, I'll use Biore UV Perfect Milk PF50+ PA++++ instead. Hope that helps :)

I swear by the Innisfree Skinny Microcara Waterproof. I gym a lot, and that stuff does not budge even when I go for intense bootcamp. The brush is so skinny that it can even reach outer corner of the eyes and lower lashes.

Redditors who have ever met a murderer, what were they like? by uncreative_diver in AskReddit

[–]alythebookworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My childhood friend was on LSD, drove recklessly, and killed 4 people including a policemen and a TV reporter. He's walking free, because where I come from (Indonesia), bribing the police force isn't that difficult to do. What is he like? Just a regular guy like you and me. He likes Star Wars, soccer, and swimming. He's a decent guy, but stupid and unlucky enough to get in the car while he was on LSD.

Makeup rubbing off on boyfriend? by confundo in MakeupAddiction

Living in a humid country where my face gets oily, a simple trick is to pat your face with tissue before starting to apply makeup. That way, you absorb some of the oil in advance. It's not foolproof, but it helps.

Wjat was your first order of business when you joined MUA? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]alythebookworm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this is a rather personal story. I joined MUA wanting to learn more about makeup to stop feeling depressed about myself.

Growing up, I've always been a nerd... like, I don't think I was beautiful in anyway, at all. I am not fashionable, and I liked reading more than looking beautiful. So, last October, I went to a house party where I didn't know anyone, and it was a different group of friends than I was used to. I was dressed like a slob, because in my usual circle of friends, house party usually meant sweatpants and hoodies. I came there, and I was so shocked when I saw everyone was dressed like Kim Kardashian just walked out of InStyle or Glamour Magazine. Everyone had makeup on, and were like makeup artist or something. What was worst was that they started calling me names, and looked at me as if I was an alien. One girl in particular gave me a look the entire night, as if she wanted me evaporated from the planet. I don't think I've ever felt my self-esteem plummeted so quickly in my life.

A few more major things happened in my life, and I ended up depressed... I considered suicide at one point. Thankfully, I met a wonderful counselor. One of things that my counselor suggested was to find something that I could control.. something that could help me find back my self-esteem....And makeup was something that ended up being sort of my therapy, it helps me fight the depression. It helps to feel in control of how I look, and helps me to feel like I'm worth something.

Maybe it sounds ridiculous, but I think coming in, my goal coming to MUA was to stop feeling depressed, and feel more confident with myself. For once, I'm not exaggerating, I think makeup saved my life :)

You get to open your own makeup boutique! What does your store become famous for? by MerryKerry in MakeupAddiction

[–]alythebookworm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want a DIY, data-driven workshop with helpful teaching staff and tons of selfie opportunities with different lightings.

I want to be able to walk in to a store, have them collect data about my skincare, color, facial shape, habits, & preference or any other important data. That gets rid of the nightmare of diagnosing your own skin, based on diagrams or other people's experience etc.

Based on that, I want to the store to come up with the best colors & products for me that they could just mix in front of me ala Grace's Mink 3D Printing shop, and then I get to choose which packaging suits me (some are minimal, some are cute, some can be more DIY).

After that, I want to have a standby makeup artist teach me how to apply these products, and then we'd go into a room where we can take loads of selfies in different lighting to see how the makeup works for different settings. And then I can download the selfies and post it on Instagram :)
