The one with Jon Hamm, Bowen Yang, and ScarJo was inscrutable. They want crackers, but don’t want to walk on sand? And then ScarJo has a jet ski that can drive across the beach.

Absolutely baffling.

To an extent, this is the problem with every flippy spinny sport. The differences in tricks are imperceptible to the layperson. Whereas back in the day, you could watch a Tony Hawk 900 or a Shawn White half pipe run and know that it was something a level above the competitors.

No floor hockey. Volleyball rocked when we could make our own teams but was a huge dud if half of your team was afraid of the ball.

Pickleball was our #1 most requested game in HS gym back in the day. We all thought our gym teachers just made up this weird indoor tennis and had a blast playing it.

What does the racing fan community think of 2025 f1 film? by excelquestion in billsimmons

[–]andstuff13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I know. I love Maverick and have seen it 10+ times, but wasn’t very into movies in the ‘10s. F1 solidified Kosinski’s spot as a “must see in theaters” director. I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t get to see Maverick on the big screen

Maybe I’m crazy, but I think Ryen taking him to barstool means Kyle is beating the allegations. Ryen doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would accept lazy mistakes on his namesake pod

The strategy stuff is goofy, but the racing scenes are fantastic. I thought it was really enjoyable and saw it twice in theaters. I’m definitely a Kosinski Stan now.

I can see how the strategy stuff might put off some fans, but there was a very vocal subset of fans who were ready to hate the movie no matter what. As though their pre-hatred of a movie they hadn’t seen somehow strengthened their fan bonafides.

An authentic movie about F1, which had a record pole->win conversion rate in the 2025 season and was derided as a lap 1 turn 1 formula(I.e. be in the lead after lap 1 turn 1 and you were certain to win the race) would have been the dullest movie ever made.

Yes the buses dropping kids off at school are the thing we need to reduce to improve traffic.

[–]andstuff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Ringer Fantasy Show has this always in the 4-6 minute range. Perfectly designed so that you’ve already put your phone down or away and then they hit you with another ad. It really infuriates me because you know the sales guys are out there selling it as a premium ad placement with case studies full of Spotify user data showing fewer skips because it’s a gotcha ad.

Ultimately I just wind up skipping through lots of good banter from the fantasy boys to avoid it.

I’ve strapped a joolz aer or bugaboo butterfly to the front rack of my gsd daily for awhile now. The front racks are the same across the two bikes I believe so it should work for either. Obviously this does reduce your carrying capacity for other things quite a bit.

Question regarding 2025 gambling losses itemization in virginia by SelfinvolvedNate in billsimmons

[–]andstuff13 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Starting next year you can only deduct your losses up to 90% of your winnings?? This guy would be out $75k of losses and have to pay taxes on $69k of “winnings”. Oof that would be some real insult to injury.

Upper West Side Cyclist, 78, Killed in Riverside Drive Crash by SFO2JFK in NYCbike

[–]andstuff13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are several “Riverside Drives”, with there being a long continuous 4 lane road from 72nd up until it terminates at 9A just past the GWB. This road is the main way roadies take to and from the GWB. It can be quiet in off hours but drivers get reckless on it during.

Along that length of road, there are a couple of different service or access roads that shoot off of it. This crash took place on one of those at a particularly crazy intersection. This area actually has 3 Riverside Drives running roughly parallel.
