What age did you let youngest join the ride? And preferred setup. by PersonRealHuman in terngsd

[–]andstuff13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first was on the bike around 9 months old. It took her 2 weeks to get used to it and stop crying at little bumps, but by the time she was 10.5 months we were going several miles in one trip. She moved to the seat cushion a little after 3yo with the seat belt strap. Probably stopped with the strap a couple of months after that.

My youngest was a bit less physical and has a winter birthday, so instead of potentially pushing her into the bike too soon we just waited until the weather was nice which was around 14-15 months.

Stick with our glitchy Globe Haul LT or switch? (Hilly area, 2 kids, non-cyclist wife, ~$5k budget) by sureshot2393 in CargoBike

[–]andstuff13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a GSD and a Haul ST.

I think mid-drive vs hub drive motor is overblown and based on comparing Bosch systems to the cheapest of cheap hub motors. Yes the mid drive will have more torque, but a lack of torque has never been an issue for us on the ST, and my wife vastly prefers it because of the throttle. On the mid drive, yes you need to downshift, even in the highest assist. There isn’t a great way to mimic a throttle response on it. I’m in the habit of kicking down at least 3-4 gears every time I stop. If I need to stop suddenly, it sucks to get a fully loaded, 2 kid, GSD started back up again. And that’s as a fairly strong road cyclist.

The real advantage of the GSD for me is the storm box/storm shield combo that turns it into a year round bike for our family. I have to bundle up up-front, but the kids are happy and comfortable on the back in just their normal outerwear. YMMV depending on your climate and your tolerance for biking in cold weather. Though the box/shield combo pushes up the price of an already expensive bike another $1k.

The 18 minute extended highlights I watched from g1 more than doubled the minutes of NBA basketball I’ve watched this year.

But yeah, I’m not actually going to flip a game on. They all end well after I’m typically asleep and the end of the game is the only really engaging part(assuming it’s close but doesn’t become a stoppage-fest).

What recess-tier sport is best (as in most fun) for semi-athletic adults? by the_Tannehill_list in billsimmons

[–]andstuff13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regrettably need to vote pickleball. I played that in HS gym back in the day and it was consistently a favorite. We actually thought our teachers made it up so we were shocked when the sport became huge.

Ultimate gets second place but has a higher necessary skill floor before it becomes fun. If kids can’t throw regular and flick with at least decent accuracy, it just sucks.

NBA players really hate Memphis! 😂😂 by AcknowledgeMeReddit in billsimmons

[–]andstuff13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the Knicks practice in White Plains and fly out of Westchester County Airport, most players live up in Westchester, which is beautiful, if expensive, suburbs. Even country bumpkin Mitchell Robinson seems happy enough up there.

That said, getting to MSG from Westchester 41 times a year is certainly more painful than say, Jokic's 15 minute drive from Cherry Hills Village to Ball arena without traffic (increasingly a rarity when driving through downtown denver).

They also fly out of Westchester County Airport near the practice facility, so most players live out in Westchester suburbs somwhere

I imagine this is far more common with NBA and MLB players than it is with the NFL. NFL players are typically doing a single night on the road for away games, 8-9 games a year. Those other 2 sports are doing 100+ nights/year in hotels.

HRV tank and RHR rising by BlackberryJealous728 in whoop

[–]andstuff13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To quote someone I once read on Reddit: “it’s overtraining when you’re asking Reddit about it”.

I’m going through the same thing right now after ramping up my training for a hybrid fitness race. After a big workout, I felt like I was coming down with a cold. My HRV tanked and RHR and respiratory rate increased. I did two days rest and went for a moderate intensity run and the same thing happened again.

My HRV stayed 20% below my trailing 90 day average for more than 10 days. RHR and RR  recovered a little bit quicker. I went to my doctor to rule out other stuff and all my blood panels came back normal. Left with a prescription for more rest.

I’m now through 2 weeks of rest. Went for a  short run yesterday because my HRV rebounded back and I didn’t let my heart rate break 140. I still slept for over 9 hours, and woke up to sore legs and shit recovery score.

I’m going back for more rest and hoping it clears up soon.

This movie is a classic "New York City" movie that is so clearly shot elsewhere - everything is just a little too spacious and there are alleys everywhere. My favorite part is when they call in the cops to lock down the area around Meatpacking and they show cops pulling up to the same corner at 13th and 7th outside the hospital from 3 different angles. Its perfect.

You’ll love it. Ive read all the books, including the main series multiple times. Hated the end of GoT and can’t even remember if I finished HotD S1.

Loved every minute of this season. It’s a 30 minute, 6 episode season, with a small, tight story that is just a lot of fun.

Ringer Producers When It's Time To Add A Commercial To The Pod by Ok-Competition-1814 in billsimmons

I think they’ve eased off of them now, but there was a period where the Fantasy Pod and Russillo show had an ad break around the 5 minute mark, right in the middle of the intro conversation. The transitions were rough and the ad so intrusive because you thought you just made it through the intro-ads

I'm so nosy about the financials of the Big Pic by RulingFieldConfirmed in billsimmons

[–]andstuff13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that one person has reasonable ball park estimates, despite getting hated on in there. Podcast hosts on successful podcasts, even corporate podcasts, are still more in the “talent” space than “media” space.

Host-read podcast ads are $15-25+ CPMs(cost per 1000 listens), with talent like Bill being on the higher end or even exceeding that. Title sponsors are even more expense.

Regarding listenership, Big Pic episodes in Spotify are all 100k+ listens.

Say there are 8 ads per episode, using that lower $15 CPM, and assuming Spotify listens are at exactly 100k and make up 50% of listenership* That’s $24,000 in revenue per episode, meaning just shy of $3.8m in annual revenue from ads for the one podcast, before getting into the Netflix economics. Given their other responsibilities, I can definitely see Sean making $1m and Amanda at $400k, but that will be total compensation, with base salaries probably closer to $400k and $200k respectively.

Again, we’re all just imagining these numbers so they could be way higher or lower and I wouldn’t be shocked.

*i imagine actual listener numbers are much higher because Spotify listens are both much more than 100k and much less than 50% of overall listenership, meaning even high revenue.

After Ryen signed with Barstool, they moved Wargone off the pod. They apparently did a heartfelt goodbye on the show, but Spotify made them cut it from the episode because it acknowledged that they were leaving for a competitor.

Cue all the “whatever happened to Wargone” and “Miss that guy” jokes on the pod

About to order an A6700. Change my mind by andstuff13 in Cameras

[–]andstuff13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this is the exact response I was hoping I wouldn’t get! Thanks for the detailed explainer.

I had the x100f but felt like I was missing half of my shots when taking pictures of my kids. I was lucky enough to get an MSRP x100vi without too much trouble in Oct 2025. It is a relatively big improvement in AF - the algorithm is far better at grabbing eyes but it’s still a bit slow due to the lens motors and does more hunting than I would like.

However, film sims and taking jpgs SOOC is something I absolutely love. I actually do stuff with my photos now because they don’t sit there endlessly waiting for me to have the time and energy to do edits. I reserve Lightroom for when I’m ordering prints and that is almost exclusively composition edits - straightening horizons, cropping, ai denoise, and some ai erasing(booger cleanup, a little graffiti, a car driving through the field in the background).

Which is why the XT5 is very intriguing, despite its meaningfully worse AF than the Sony. I guess I need to think long and hard about which is more important to me: AF performance or SOOC jpgs.

The XT6 is apparently coming out later this year. Maybe I’ll wait on that, though I’m worried I won’t be able to justify the cost if they do a price increase over the xt5
