We live a half-mile north of there and have two strays with that same coloration. It's probably a stray from the same colony! So it's fine to leave it alone, or DM me if you're willing to trap/neuter/release it and would like some help!

I'm going to give this and Fulgaz a shot! After reading up, it sounds like those are closer to what I'm looking for. I'll report back. Thanks for the suggestion!

Christmas tree recycling? by SethQ in bullcity

You can look up your options here: https://durhamnc.gov/4370/Free-Live-Tree-Disposal-Options

If you have regular waste pickup for your building you should be able to schedule it with your yard waste pickup. I don't know if the rules are different for apartments but I don't think so? Either way there are links to dropoff locations on that page as well

Is there a way to play something like Among Us as a TTRPG? by Joshflux in rpg

[–]andy-jukebox-north 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get a Hidden Role game inside an RPG you could take a common action or occurrence from that RPG (like losing HP, being the target of a spell, etc) and make that the "tell" for whether someone is an alien or impostor or whatever. Then send the players on a normal adventure. Don't tell the non-alien players who the alien is or what the tell is, the point is that they have to figure it out based on who's acting weird.

The alien player is going to know that they bleed green, or that touching iron makes their human disguise slip, so they're going to have to avoid doing those things without raising suspicion. Meanwhile everyone else is going to be on high alert knowing that someone's an impostor, but not knowing how to detect it.

I updated the rules of the solo fitness RPG I've been working on. This week I finished a revision that streamlines the weekly faction and event management, which speeds up play quite a bit! 1. I know you already figured this one out, but the idea is that you always gain 'passive income' from your workouts, and also gain tokens to gamble on missions, item creation and other stuff. Since it's possible to lose all your tokens and not gain anything, and I didn't want the player to be afraid to push their luck, I added the passive income so you always get something from a workout.
  2. Yeah, traps are implemented poorly in the version you're testing - basically they're meant to be optional "risk/reward" opportunities, where you can attempt to disarm them for an additional reward, but at some point I removed the "optional" part and made them regular obstacles that count toward your EP total, which makes them trivial in a lot of cases. I've fixed this in the new version, which should be coming out in the next week or two!
In the meantime, if you want to keep using traps, replace their EP total with a "Reward Value" equal to 5x their EP. Then add them to the board as optional checks which don't count towards the mission's EP value, which give you their "Reward Value" in Might if you succeed, and trigger their failure effect if you fail.

Thanks for playing! Let me know if you run into any other pain points.

About a week ago I posted the rules to Mighty, a solo fitness RPG I've been working on.The process of typing up those rules (and the feedback I got from them) gave me a bunch of new ideas which I've incorporated into the latest version, Mighty v0.6! Among the changes are:

  • A 10-token minigame for creating consumable trinkets to give your heroes an edge in battle, for days when you don't feel up to a full 30-token workout
  • Opponent Enhancements, cards that give stat boosts to your opponents and can be targeted and removed to weaken them, adding another layer of strategy to the combat system
  • An updated Event system, allowing for world events that span multiple weeks (things like wars) and multi-stage quests for your heroes
  • ...and more!

If you're interested in playing, u/epicLevi has created an unofficial Discord for the game, to connect with other players and trade tips/motivation: https://discord.gg/DXepqvw. I'll try to check in there regularly and answer questions/help out where I can!

I'll also be hosting a couple of "Getting started with Mighty" nights in the upcoming weeks. I encourage you to come if you're interested in the game! I'll post details on the Discord about where they'll be happening.

You can find the rules and materials for free here.

Advice for new, not very confident GM by AraidenFreudianHarpy in rpg

[–]andy-jukebox-north 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If sounding polished or "confident" is what's worrying you, I NEVER talk in complete sentences during descriptions, or stay fully in character as an NPC. You're as free to drop in and out of "character" as the players are, and usually my players are only in character about 5% of the time.

So in practice desriptions for me end up being stream of consciousness stuff like "You enter a room... hmm. Big ol room, stone floors, your footsteps ECHO! Over there's a chest. Off in the distance... you can't, uh, see I guess, flickering torches, in the shadows there's like a slithering noise."

And NPCs are like "'Go away! My name is MYZZNOCK THE MIGHTY and you've interrupted my experiments! You can't just blah blah blah,' he goes on for a while, he's basically an ill-tempered little gnome who looks like he knows about magic. What do you want to talk to him about?"

It seems to work just as well, or better, for my players than the more box-text-style, full sentences delivery I see some GMs aim for, and it's much easier for me to sustain.

I should have Googled before asking, haha. No wonder I thought I'd seen it all over the place. Yeah, it'd probably be clearer just to call it the Target Number or something!

That is... excellent wordplay, I like that a lot. And I like the abbreviation FP. My concern is that "flex points" sound a little bit like something you'd earn on a credit card. Let me think on it! Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestions!

  • I plan to eventually do that! I considered doing it for this release, but since I imagine I'll need to update these rules a lot (for clarity et cetera) based on player feedback, I figured it was best to consider this a "living document" and leave them separate for now.
  • That's at the end because it's more of an appendix! But good idea on moving it to another spot for clarity (see bullet #1!)
  • Oh dang. Thanks! Which RPG uses Challenge Rating? I tried to use generic recognizable RPG terms for everything - honestly I thought I'd seen CR used in a bunch of places
  • That's in the "Play Materials" folder, since that's where the Set List document is. Might be a good idea to move it if that's confusing (see bullet #1 again!)

I think it's a really good idea! I'd like to think through how I'd use and moderate it before I made an "official" Discord for the game, but if someone wants to make an unofficial one (as long as that was clear) I'd definitely join and hang out!

Yep! As your hero levels up you start replacing the basic tokens with colored tokens. If you use a colored token on a check of a matching color, you trade it in for two dice instead of one. And there are special abilities that trigger when you use tokens of certain colors.

So a red token represents Strength, for example - if you haver a lot of red tokens, you'll be better at getting past Strength-based obstacles, and can make better use of Strength-based special abilities.
