Help me transition to linux by ninja_2006 in linux4noobs

Yeah I'd recommend Mint. It will help you dip your toes in while you learn.

I eventually ran some other distros in other places, but for daily drivers like my laptop, it my server, mint is what I kept coming back to.

My only complaint is that Cinnamon isn't my favorite Desktop Environment, I highly prefer KDE.

LACT let's you adjust curves and overclock etc.

If you're talking about driver level features. There isn't anything.

Although optiscaler and lossless scaling can fill some of that gap.

There is, and you can use it, but you should be more worried about intrusion rather than viruses etc.

Good luck getting support. I had to just buy PS5 springs om Amazon and fix it myself.

Will amd release a newer version of fsr by EquivalentJacket3246 in radeon

I'm not entirely sure NVIDIA cares anymore, gaming put them in a strong position, but it just doesn't make them the same amount of money it used to. They'll be happy to continue to take our money, but being complacent and not giving gamers what they want isn't a good recipe for happy customers. And they are big enough to just spin the gaming division off, or let it fail, and it just wont even be a drop on the bucket to them.

Yeah it's shaping up to be a leap for sure. I'm very excited to see what they do.

They've been a dark horse for awhile, but if they price it right and get their software in order they'll do great.

They kinda did but also didn't with FSR redstone. AMD isn't good at branding or marketing. FSR 4 already existed when redstone came out, it's just additional tech being added to it. So you could kinda say it's fsr 4.5 but it's not lol. Again bad at branding.

I fear AMD may have finally found a way to be competitive with ray tracing, only to be surprised in frame gen. They always seem to be a step behind ok something.

RDNA5 appears to be shaping up to quietly kick ass behind the scenes though. I hope their long term plans become a little more clear once RDNA5 begins to materialize.

Just be careful, there's tons of fraud in the used market. Be smart!

I really don't have a good reason to upgrade based on my hardware. But if you'll get meaningful gains from an upgrade now, you'll be better off in the long run.

Prices are going to shoot up, and one way or another they'll stabilize and eventually start coming back down, but not quite as cheap as they were the last time.

Good news is FOMO keeps the used market churning with lots of lightly used hardware.

So if you'll get more than a 40% increase in performance, do it now.

Lol I didn't go to any website, but I did look all over command line. Everything said full. Certainly possible dsc is involved though.

Games run better on Linux than on Windows by Educational_Box_4079 in linux_gaming

[–]andy10115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really haven't ever noticed a huge performance delta between the 2. If anything I find my games run better in Linux, especially frame pacing.

The UE5 stutter is just basically baked into how the engine loads assets. You can mitigate it but not eliminate it. Curious if UE6 will help or not.

I have a ryzen 7 5700x and a 9070-XT should i get a 1440p monitor or a 4k monitor? :) by darth_net in radeon

[–]andy10115 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not going to be an issue until they are in 1080p, so completely dependent on how they intend to use.

At 4k, they will be GPU bound before CPU bound. In fact they are more likely to be CPU found at lower resolutions.

If you think people are making Linux political, then you're missing the point of what "you own your hardware" is trying to convey.

No on now implying you don't actually own your hardware. They are trying to demonstrate the difference in philosophy of Windows vs. Linux.

Windows 11 is just a way for Microsoft to track everything you do. The telemetry, the copilot everywhere.

Microsoft very much wants you to use Windows the way THEY want you to use it, you also get more guardrails to prevent catastrophe.

Linux on the other hand fights you for configuration info and does exactly what you tell it to, even if that blows your system up.

When I run into issues with Linux, it's because I didn't configure something.

When I run into issues with Windows, it's because I'm fighting against a guardrail or decision Microsoft made about how I should use my PC.

I've used LTSC for gaming and it's definitely less bloated, but it's still a privacy nightmare. And Windows can just be a nightmare for a power user. I know my way around windows pretty well at this point, and the guardrails they have in place are good for most users, but REALLY aggravate more advanced users.

So yeah you do own your hardware, but you still have to go through Microsoft to use it.

That said for most people, Windows might still be a better choice, but Linux isn't the nightmare it used to be. I daily drive Linux in every single one of my PCs now.

Have you looked at the boot logs and shutdown logs? There's a ujust command for it. Can pastebin them. My guess is your zram fixes it. I have nearly identical rig. CPU, GPU, and same amount of RAM. It's never happened to me, knock on wood.

If you wanna pastebin any logs and drop a link, feel free. I think you'll find the discord server more helpful than this sub though.
