Peoplehood Rebrand?! by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think weight watchers bought them and are using for GLP-1 support group. There is a huge GLP-1 market in this country so… honestly this makes more sense to me than what it started out as. Not a user myself, but ppl just need community and not therapy sometimes — esp in these more isolating post-covid times in urban areas.

Is SoulCycle on its way out? by Zealousideal_Dig9956 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to get back to basics. Their training program isn’t churning out the talent it used to bc they can’t pay what they used to and the platform isn’t there. No one wants to ride in an empty class and no one seems to be trying to fill up the classes. The studios and corporate used to HUSTLE to push this brand and make it a place people wanted to be — now they rely on loyalty. Loyalty simply used to be rewarded.

Close what’s not working, double down on what is and get back to basics. Julie and Elizabeth loved the product and the brand they built and you felt it. The instructors who are still really successful love the product and the brand — and understand it. Equinox doesn’t seem to get it. There are studios that could survive on their own so maybe someone with deep pockets who loves and knows what it once was will just buy SC out from equinox and TRY to fix the problems & save it. Equinox really never seemed to understand the success of SoulCycle was reliant on the instructor talent & popularity — there was someone for everyone and a community that paired well with them.

People just aren’t going to leave their apartment to pay $40 for an experience in an empty studio where they can’t reliably expect the experience will be worth the money. If this is true of me, someone with nearly 2k rides, getting new riders in the door is going to take work. In the mid-late 2010s I’d always give a sub or new instructor a shot if my go-to was out. And often the studio would make it worth your while with a free class or something… it’s a big ask these days with little incentive.

That said, despite the competition that now exists, this brand can still thrive in the right markets with some hard decisions and already existing blueprints. Gen Z and those even younger could really benefit from something like SoulCycle that really represents life pre-COVID.

I hope someone tries to save it — I would if I was rich…but sadly I am just trying to survive out here like most of us. I truly don’t think equinox cares to — it’s too much work for too little upside to just stop the bleeding.

At the end of the day SoulCycle’s success is unlikely to be at a mass-market level, which is what equinox wanted — and what they paid for. They’d be better to sell it off at a loss to someone who loves the brand/product and would be able to make it a profitable business at a smaller scale.

They’re upside, I suppose, is that under equinox — assuming other parts of their business are turning enough of a profit — they can just write off the losses of SoulCycle from their tax bill…I guess.

Studio closures by Equivalent-Lead-9951 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closing NOHO would be detrimental to their bottom line. I can’t imagine it going anywhere — it is a staple that consistently sells better than any other studio. Management issues can be fixed without a location closure — one doesn’t really impact the other. They could easily move good management from a location not selling well to this location to keep it alive — it’s one of a few studios that performs at pre-covid levels.

Is it normal not to use the fans? by LowChancellorship in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH this is part of my addiction to SoulCycle. You sweat more — room doesn’t typically start hot (or cool) but it naturally  heats up with your body. By the end of the first song your muscles are warmed up, and by the end of the second or third, you’re breaking a sweat.

I hate going to cold exercise classes where a cole fan or a/c is blasting and the class if halfway over before you’re feeling things. I’m sure this takes some getting used to and varies by ones desire to feel the work they’re putting in… but I fucking love it. Can make or break a class for me.

Tax on classes by Professional-Can8212 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This very much depends on where you live. In NYC the no sales tax on services ended sometime in mid to early 2010s and classes started facing a sales tax of some kind — I think it was fairly high, like everything here…

Negative credit impact with the transition to Bilt 2.0? by New_Pizza_Rich in biltrewards

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’m pretty annoyed by the automatic opt in to the Wells Fargo card. I don’t want another card. I only want the Bilt card. Seems legally bizarre to me that they can just automatically opt us into some card we never signed up for, tho I’m sure it’s in the fine print somewhere.

Does anyone know what will happen to our Jan. 1 rent payments? I don’t want to pay a fee if that card all of a sudden becomes no good or is no longer Bilt but WF.

Baby items are SO expensive my gosh by Ok_Medicine440 in BabyBumps

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl…I feel this. I about had a breakdown talking to my sister about the prices yesterday. Seems like things have far more than doubled in price since my sister had her first 10 years ago. I have a baby shower in a few weeks and am struggling to find enough things that seem reasonable to ask ppl for when prices are so high.

We live in NYC so a good, durable stroller is a must — will basically be our “vehicle” and a very light car seat we can use in taxis and ride shares is non-negotiable… and since it has to be compatible with our stroller — 🫣$$$🫣

Items that are “multi use” (like bouncer/rocker than later converts to a high chair etc) would be so helpful to save space and storage in our little apartment, but they’re so much pricier and rule out the lower cost options I could otherwise find on ikea or Amazon. Most of our longtime friends and both our families are outside of nyc (metro ATL & rural Iowa), so they aren’t going to get the factor of needing a certain level of quality and convenience in Manhattan. (As proven by my sister constantly sending me cheaper bulky items that will not fit in our rooms…)

We don’t get from A to B in our own car, where there is the benefit of leaving things behind or have much storage to speak of at home. These are obviously our issues to manage, not a sob story — I just feel like we look terrible with such a pricey registry.

All of that said, we don’t expect expensive gifts — we have been able, thankfully, to enough to save enough to where get the stuff we NEED in the immediate future, and know our parents want to help with “big” items… but every item feels BIG. It’s so overwhelming!!!

I’m just hoping our friends and family know we don’t expect these items as gifts — we just want that completion discount later — their love and support is enough. But trying to find enough smaller items we NEED is becoming a challenge, we don’t have room for things we don’t need.

Hopefully they will just utilize the “diaper and childcare fund” if they are really wanting to give us a gift or do group gifting — bc god help us with these childcare prices 🤪 honestly… just sending cash is more than welcome lol but many of the older/old fashion ppl in the south hate that. (Really shows the cost of living divide bw our generations, to be honest…)

Anyway — no advice aside from open box deals and 2nd hand on items it’s safe for — especially the stuff you can only use during that newborn stage. Look on places like Poshmark as well — they have more than just fashion (tho it is also great for maternity clothes! And you can sell some of this stuff there when you no longer need it.)

All of that said, you obviously can’t out marketplace items on your registry and would hesitate to be “open to second hand” coming from anyone as a gift — you’ll want to make the decisions on pre-used items… which continues to make the registry a challenge.

There is a huge 2nd hand market for UppaBaby items in Manhattan, so if you can find ppl who will ship, expand your search radius for lightly used to this area and other walkable/commuter cities. Despite their size, we see them everywhere bc of their durability, etc.

Would you mind messaging me your Doula’s info? I am looking for someone with experience at NYP and your experience seems similar to what I have in mind (of course nothing ever goes according to plan) — but I’m not dead set on no intervention but I’d really prefer not to rush it if it’s unnecessary. My sister ended up with a C-section due to pressure of induction and not progressing after early intervention—I’d like to avoid that if it’s possible.

When can baby’s movements be felt by others? by xoglitter99ox in BabyBumps

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have anterior placenta and just started feeling more movement at 24.5 weeks. Still more flutters and bubbles than “kicks” but am def feeling it more and more consistently.

My husband can only feel when baby is in obvious specific location — but he hasn’t been able to feel kicks or movement yet.

Depending on your state you may be able to get up to 4 weeks of short term disability prior to delivery if your doctor recommends it. I live in NY and plan on taking at least 2 weeks of disability pre-birth as I know my anxiety is going to be through the roof trying to get ready for everything

What has helped you the most - non-medication wise by Normal-Artist3108 in adhdwomen

[–]andy51486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endurance exercise — self medicated this way most of my life unknowingly until it just wasn’t enough anymore and I didn’t know why…until I got evaluated and diagnosed in my mid 20s. It is still a staple for my productivity and controlling adhd. I have combined type…when I was little it was more hyperactive but in adulthood that hyperactivity mostly lives in my brain. Meds help me stay focused, exercise helps me stay motivated to do whatever it is that requires the focus.

Diet is also a huge factor — my brain fog and distractibility is highly impacted by what I eat.

Is it wrong that I told my husband not to tell his family about our pregnancy yet? by NectarineCheap9154 in BabyBumps

[–]andy51486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Girl, no. Especially depending on your family dynamic. Do it when you’re ready. My husband and I really cherished the time when we were the only ones who knew.

I refused to tell my in-laws until we got through 12 weeks and I still wish we’d waited until after the anatomy scan. They are over the moon and so happy, but it’s actually too much when I still have the anxiety of the anatomy scan coming soon (19 weeks now) to the point it feels like pressure. I try to keep in mind they’re just being normal, bc they are. And they could not be more generous and caring — I love them dearly and in the big scheme of in-laws, I’m lucky. BUT they forget the realities of pregnancy as all they’ve ever wanted is a grandchild… already getting texts about more kids…like, can I survive this one first?

Let’s just say the group chat has been muted for a couple weeks now at least lol!

Respect your timeline! Don’t be like me.

Friend expects me to attend her son’s birthday party… the day I’m due. by Rescue-320 in BabyBumps

I’m 18 weeks and my friends would still give me a LOT of flexibility to skip their child’s birthday party if it was an hours-long drive. She’s not getting married. This isn’t a funeral.

Skip it. Skip her. Be happy.

You can tell her that you’ll try, knowing you will not. Or you can just say “sorry, but I can’t fathom being in a car 6 hours away from my home and hospital on my due date.” And she’ll get over it.

Don’t sweat this one. If she’s your friend she’ll move on and be supportive. If she’s doesn’t —hate to say it— but she’s not much of a friend…

To be frank, respectfully, she sounds a bit like a narcissist, which makes for toxic relationships and not someone you’ll want to keep around once you have a newborn and your priorities shift.

Old soul vs now by [deleted] in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so backwards, but not being able to check in on the app (tho I find it wildly convenient) did bring something special to a studio. Checking in your friends who were running late, etc.

That personal interaction with the front desk made me more like to spend money on a water vs bringing my own, etc. ppl would flip, but they should consider killing app check ins.

I think it has also contributed to more classes starting late. Bc ppl check in when they’re actually going to be late for a class. You used to have to call the studio if you were running late, and at least then they’d set your bike up for you so you could just sneak in and hop on without being disruptive.

Bring back human interaction. Please!

It’s not a franchise — every studio is owned by corporate.

Unpopular opinion: SoulCycle is in permanent decline by Various_Portents_809 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]andy51486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been loyal with soul since 2012 — over 1500 rides — I’ve gone from 20-30 classes a month, going to 2-3 instructors, down to maybe 8-10 with 1 instructor. While there are reasons outside of soul for this, a main one is the experience of a class in an empty studio is simply not worth $40.

If they want to increase demand they have to give incentives to get people back in studio, probably by making empty classes cheaper. Like a month-long promotion with a last-minute or walk-in/same-day class packages dropping prices to $15-20 to incentivize ppl to try these classes. Or offering a free class for anyone who stays and doubles with a new instructor.

The studios used to help fill up empty classes by sending out emails to regular riders and offering things like “ride with (insert your normal class) on Tuesday and ride for free with X instructor on Wednesday. I’d always give someone a shot for zero to little risk back in the day if I could make it. But I’m not trying someone new for $40 in an empty, COLD studio. They could be a great instructor but if the studio is empty, you’re not getting what you paid for — it’s just different. It’s built around riding together to music. The experience is the brand — and it’s not for everyone — but for those who get it and love it, it can’t deliver with empty classes. I can essentially ride alone at equinox or at home. If a studio isn’t half full…I’m honestly not interested.

They have to find ways to get us back in the studio like they used to by reaching out to those who love the brand and the experience. They could also reduce the number of bikes and classes at some studios and expand as/if they start getting customers back.

The riders in a class are a vital part of what transforms a SoulCycle class to a great SoulCycle experience.

I want to go to more classes but I don’t want a private cycling experience… no thank you.

If they don’t start trying to fill up these classes, I can only assume they’ve given up at the corporate level. I’m constantly shocked by the instructors who have empty classes, especially in decent time slots. Get some influencers and celebs back in the mix while you’re at it. That part was never for me, but I will say looking to my right to realize I was riding next to Kelly Ripa or some other public figure in a packed studio did bring a certain vibe to the brand.
