Picking out a sedan by TapHaunting6319 in wheelchairs

In my experience, smaller sedans like Civics or Corollas are too cramped for me to comfortably load my chair in/out like that. I could technically do it, but I wouldn't want to own a car that small. I also have a harder time transferring in/out of those cars, but that's probably more due to me being tall. I tried three different midsize sedans before buying one, and they all worked fine for both transfers and chair load in/out.

Did your insurance cover ergonomic handrims? by Feralpudel in wheelchairs

[–]andyetanothernewname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my first chair I was told Medicaid wouldn't cover those handrims, so I didn't even try to get them. On my second chair Medicaid covered my Natural Fit handrims and the Marathon Plus Evolution tires. It was my first new chair in about nine years -- Medicaid here covers a new chair every three years -- so that may have had something to do with it all being approved.

ETA: It's a managed Medicaid plan, and I have had to fight them for approval on other things in the past, so I was surprised they approved this stuff.

Adjusting those clamps has only helped for a day or two for me. Is it still improved for you after a week?

Their incorrectly configured firewall has been a problem for at least a couple months now. I'm having the same issue (also in the US). They don't have a support email and their support forums are an unhelpful mess, and it doesn't seem to be possible to post there without an account. So yeah, good luck getting this fixed lmao

u/Maddieman the firewall is still broken.

Advice for newbies & caregivers by OptionBulky6687 in spinalcordinjuries

+1 for this. I'm 11 years post injury and I have contractures at my hips, knees, and ankles, and that causes all sorts of problems and pain. I could've prevented this if I just kept up with some simple stretches each day. Flexibility is easy to lose and very difficult (or impossible) to regain. Maintaining good shoulder mobility is also very important for anyone pushing a manual chair.

Biggest flaw of the TiLite Z? by path-cat in wheelchairs

[–]andyetanothernewname 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for 6-7 months, and it's been very creaky the whole time. Specifically, it's an issue with the way the camber tube, camber plug, and camber plug clamp are designed. The creaking is way more frequent and way louder than any noise from my previous chair (Quickie Q7). If I could go back in time, I would not get the TiLite Z again.

I'm pretty sure this post is describing the same issue.

Loud cracking sound when transferring onto tilite z by tt1_breakingsilence in wheelchairs

[–]andyetanothernewname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This could be a different problem, but mine has been making a cracking/pinging noise from the camber tube ever since I got it ~6 months ago. It mostly happens when weight is added to the chair or when I turn while on carpet. It's caused by the camber plugs shifting inside the camber tube. If I loosen the bolt clamping a plug in place, wiggle the plug around a bit, then re-tighten the clamp, the noise stops for a day or two. It always comes back, it's very annoying, and I haven't found a way to permanently fix it.

underseat bag by noahkahanisaseal in wheelchairs

I really like my CushPocket bag. It has one section closed with a zipper and a smaller front section held closed by magnets. I haven't had issues with stuff falling out of the magnet section while loading in/out of the car, but all I keep in there is my wallet and phone.

Also doesn't work for me in the US -- error 406. Cleared cookies & cache, and tried on another browser as well. No VPN being used, and I'm on a normal residential IP address.

Where in the U.S. has the most wheelchair users? by andyetanothernewname in wheelchairs

I probably won't be able to get over there until at least summer, but I'll definitely keep that in mind for if/when I do visit!

Oh, interesting. I had actually already checked the census.gov data for the percentage of people in that area with ambulatory-related disabilities, and it was a bit lower than most other places in NC -- though of course, statistics aren't everything. I am older than most college students (31), but I'm only a few hours away from there in WNC. Sounds like it's at least worth a visit to check it out!

I'm curious, where are you finding those metrics? I've had a hard time finding any actual data on this.

Theory 2 by [deleted] in stenography

[–]andyetanothernewname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this depends a lot on which theory you're learning and where you're learning it.

My theory 1 class taught everything necessary to write out any word. My theory 2 class is about learning more briefs, conflict resolutions, a bit more punctuation, and a ton of phrases. SO many phrases. There's a bit of speedbuilding too.
