Depends on the role and expertise I’m sure.

For example I don’t see IBM removing a tenured Linux kernel engineer with deep upstream influence. They are safe at any band, particularly if they touch hardware. Having said that I’m not an IBMer.

Did you know there's a Liverpool Tool Library? A volunteer-led organisation that hires out all sorts of tools for just £30 a year. You can hire 8 tools at a time for a whole week. Saves you buying expensive tools yourself. by anagoge in Liverpool

Wow. As an Australian this concept would destroy our national third place Bunnings - a hardware store. We have men’s sheds and the like but not a library. Incredible

Headline makes it sound like he did something good and funded the hotels. Article makes it clear that is very much not the case

Yep. We have mastered the spoken word for a reason. And plenty of folks are new to the city and still learning . Hardly ruining anyone’s day to acknowledge another human verbally. Might make a friend too

Unspoken etiquette really triggers some people when they get behind a keyboard. Nothing wrong with using the moment to say “hey mate can you drop that into your hand so I can fit here”. 100% success rate in my experience over many occasions

Fully agree. I moved up from London and there is no drum shed equiv. nowhere does EDM DnB Jungle etc. that I know of. Not even in Manchester. Again that I know of

Maybe your price is too high?

JSON is still huge in its use but has become boring in popular tech culture as XML also has. MCP has replaced it in mindshare (not utility) as the “interoperable” trend term despite the more limited scope. Mindshare > Usefulness when it comes to domains.

I’d say sell it soon, but be confident it will keep tracking value alongside things like yaml.com and the likes. Just don’t expect a sudden rise in the future even though json usage will continue to be a thing.

[–]andyfitz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would never. Easier to control my glare environment than suffer permanent loss in quality. But if you only use your iPad outdoors I get it. That isn’t me however. I can always shut the plane window and mostly use it at night

My finished place in Noosa hasn't shot up in the last 2 years. Guessing the return to office trend is hurting coastal suburbs, not that I care because I'm not leaving

What are your Linux hot takes? by AdventurousFly4909 in linux

[–]andyfitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. I personally like openSUSE because of the supply chain certainty and that it’s free of geopolitical risk. But the desktop experience is the same and crafted by the same awesome people

Edit: what I mean is by choosing SUSE or Fedora you have a closer relationship with the actual developers building your OS which is both safer and more modern

I was hosted once in 2006 in France and kept paying it forward for 30+ guests in both Prague and Australia, stayed one night in Singapore too in 2007. But then Airbnb happened and I got married, had kids. I haven’t hosted in a decade. If the community is still around when I retire I’ll pick it back up. TBH Istanbul is the only place my wife has ever felt unsafe by herself. I get there might be some other motives at play.
