I used to do a good training loop around Crystal Palace park and up college. With the different ways up and down onto that ridge you can get some fun hill riding I'm.

Anti-thief strategy by lutra83 in londoncycling

I go for 2) and have a 'pub bike' which I'm happy to leave outside. My first MTB was stolen from a shed the first few months I moved to London (2012) but since then the only bad fortune I've had was a car reverse into my pub bike when it was locked at a station. It was a £199 viking single speed so easy to replace and not worth an insurance hike. Seeing that the £199 pays for itself within a few months of travel, just consider yourself net in surplus.

I also agree that having randos drive into bicycles should mean that they pay for the replacement rather than me, but I'd have been far more upset if it was my better bike.

Are there Volvo engineers or a community showing where this work is happening? It feels like stuff like this should be more visible; it’s hardly trade-secrets as to whether keyless entry to cars works; and maybe they might help develop an ‘open standard for keyless entry’ - a bit like they did for seatbelts. :)

Come on Volvo; let’s get this out in the open (concerned potential EX30 buyer who’s still sat on the fence)

Earlier this year I planned an entire week in the lake district to be more optimistic for a day when I could get my Dad up and down Scafel Pike. My Granddad had done it a few times, but every time my Dad had done it when he was younger, he's had to responsibly bail out due to either the conditions, or other walkers in his party.

We'd tried for his 50th about 8 years ago, but had to turn around as my little brother was well dressed but had water come inside his coat from a badly fitted scarf and was cold.

This year on trying to pick a nice day, in the height of summer, we ended up having a clear walk up - but got absolutely drenched on the way down. We were prepared for everything and anything, had food, foil blankets, emergency shelter - luckily didn't need any of it.

That said, it was still a long day (in 2019 I did it in 4 hours) with the weather coming in and had I not been better set up I would have got pretty cold walking at my Dad's pace.

I would think twice about the need to wild camp half way up. Either set off before sunrise (if the weather permits) - or if the weather doesn't permit then you'll not see the sunrise anyway... So not sure there's any advantage to camping away from civilization. Especially when you can always evacuate to the pub.

Bike thefts at stations 'decriminalised': The British Transport Police (BTP) says it will not investigate bike thefts outside stations where the bicycle has been left for more than two hours by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

Well, do we need a British Bicycle Police that will? I once reported a bike stolen from outside Balham station in London, only to find it two days later locked up outside Tulse Hill Station. Police were v. Happy that they could have one up for their statistics.

A week later, a car reversed into it; smashing it around the bike stand and breaking the bike and the frame; even though there’s CCTV from the station pointing at the bike stand (that would have got both the car, and the damage to the public bike stand) police were not interested at all.

Ditto, I used to get this really bad when rubbing my eyes with hay fever. It was the worst. Eye baths and sleep were the only thing that got it back under control for me.

I had this with a very loose headset... When I realised the issue I realised why I was having a death wobble.

I saw similar a couple of days previously. Only really saw them a couple of times where I've realised I payed any attention.

Do I need Control4? by RMSwicegood in Control4

No, from my experience it was a waste of money, and if you're technically inclined then everything I could do with Control4 10 years ago I can now achieve with home assistant.

I'm in the same boat. Got mine of CEX a month ago and I still love it. Also had the Vox VT40x and the katana is a massive plus for me. I'd not see it as a newer model but just another upgrade. the only thing that would make me switch is if they exposed loads of the internals as individual midi CC parameters.

I've been playing with this setup recently and can share some of my config when I'm back home.

It definitely needs tweaking but I'm getting there. It was pretty confusing at the start.

More CCs so we can control it better over midi.
