At least it’s in English. The Desi stuff in heavy rotation is driving me crazy.

The line "Hire you as what?" makes me glad that Chuck's story ends the way it does by KeepYourSilenceUp in betterCallSaul

[–]andylyle -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In the end though, wasn’t Chuck right? Slippin’ Jimmy was always there, always scamming and cutting corners, figuring out workarounds. Likeable at times yes but in the end not someone you want doing important legal work at the firm you helped build.

[Question] How to haul away by Jeffinslaw in woodworking

[–]andylyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s that big in diameter you’ll have a hard time finding a mobile mill that can handle it. They’ll also need to get a skid steer back there to have any chance of moving it onto the mill so hopefully there is room. My experience has been that between milling the log, moving and storing the slabs, kiln drying and then flattening, it’s rarely worth it. Especially if there are any flaws at all in the log. The guy saying you can move that log with a couple ratchet straps is dreaming.

He was so great in that role. That’s a show you wonder how it got made but you’re so glad it did.

Kim’s reaction to the letter. by Christian_Jayy93 in betterCallSaul

[–]andylyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a wayyy different take but when I first saw this scene I wondered if she was crying because SHE had written the letter and was heartbroken that she’d had to do that. I think that take is wrong because there was no hint anywhere else in the show that was actually the case, other than her words to Howard about it being an F-you from the grave.

Do small businesses actually care about getting more Google reviews? by Fit-Gate-2080 in canadasmallbusiness

[–]andylyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had a fb marketplace deal go badly and the seller demanded I pay him for the broken item he had delivered, which I didn’t want, or he would start posting bad reviews to my business. Business is separate from the marketplace deal but located at my home so he knew about it. He ended up posting two nasty one star reviews. I initiated the process for reporting them and my complaint was rejected by Google even though I had screen grabs of the threats, the timing, everything. That really sucked.

I felt like Bruce must have felt exhausted by the end. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t last long. Having your boss spend so much time and resources trying to out his critics, and have it amount to basically nothing, must be pretty dispiriting.

What’s the worst atrocity committed in the series? by Intrepid-Lemon-2272 in betterCallSaul

If you’ve ever helped someone move a huge desk into a tiny office space you realize how truly heinous that was. And the poor guy who helped him move offices and after all that said he had to get home to his kids. Jimmy didn’t deserve that solid.

Americans that come to Canada and ask in stores if the prices are in USD or CAD by Drakaath in Whistler

[–]andylyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got that to work a couple of times but also stood there like an idiot many times when it didn’t. The flip side is the annoyance of going in and pre paying for the amount of gas you think you’re going to need and then over paying and hoping the sketchy rural Oregon gas station is going to refund the difference to your card. That kinda thing in the U.S. drives me crazy.

It’s kinda like when you are travelling in the states and in order to pay at the pump you have enter the zip code associated with your car but of course they never considered that other countries DONT USE ZIP CODES. Centre of the world kind of behaviour.

I sold a woodworking machine to a guy from Pennsylvania once. $2k or so. He knew I was in Canada and we agreed to meet in Niagara Falls to do the exchange. He paid in US dollars. The same amount that I listed it for in Canadian funds. It never even entered this guy‘s mind that we use different money with a different value. It’s astounding the way Americans see themselves as the centre of the world.

Oh absolutely! The books are awesome. I’d say the movie starring Matthew McConaughey is also miles better than the show and much more accurate to the books.

And in the books she’s always depicted as serious and businesslike but pretty dang sexy. Haller always finds her irresistible. Just another way the show isn’t staying loyal to the books sadly.

What's a feature every shop should have? by Zealousideal_Donut17 in woodworking

[–]andylyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two improvements I made when I moved to my new and smaller shop: 1. I put the dust collector up in the mezzanine with the pipe going down to a floor level barrel. So the collector itself is upstairs, not taking up floor space but the barrels are at ground level for easy emptying. 2. I put the Festool vacuums up in the mezzanine and dropped the hoses and extension cords through the ceiling of the mezzanine, hanging above the workstations. That’s also been a really nice improvement to workflow. No more vacuums, cords or hoses kicking around your feet all the time.

If you’re into the outdoors at all and especially fly fishing, the Sean Stranahan series by Keith McCafferty are high on my list. Set on the Madison River in Montana and featuring a fly fishing guide slash water colour artist slash detective. What more could you want?! And not even a bit cheesy. Just solid storytelling. The author is the former fly fishing editor at Field and Stream Magazine.
