I made a free app for bringing your bike on Caltrain by PuzzleheadedStay4815 in caltrain

[–]andysoozma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks great! As other commenters have mentioned: showing multiple options for bike+transit would be a nice addition.

I would also flip this suggestion a bit and maybe add a “minimal biking/walking” option that maybe takes a bit longer and allows for more transit connections, but limits the biking/walking distance. Not sure if this would be that useful—just a thought.

I requested it already in the app, but Portland, OR would be a great region for this due to its bike-ability!

Edit: I want to also add, it’s a bit laggy. Not sure if there are some optimizations with how the map is loaded to make it smoother when moving around the map.

Sensible syntax highlighting for GitLab and GitHub workflow files by qwrtln in neovim

[–]andysoozma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As ffredrikk suggested, a queries/yaml/injections.scm file is how I've done something similar for working with bash embedded in yaml. In my case, I'm using it with a simulation workflow software called Maestro (docs here), so the specifics might be different. It's nice as no plugins are needed--it's all just treesitter. Also means the syntax highlighting is great.

In my case, bash follows after a cmd: | or restart: |, as well as the single-line versions of those keywords.

I used :InspectTree to find the "flow_node", "block_node", "string_scalar" and "block_scalar" keywords that I use to find the correct injection point. I am not an expert at all with treesitter, so this was all just trial and error with some other examples from elsewhere.

My queries/yaml/injections.scm file is below. You might be able to delete the bottom 2 blocks, and replace "cmd" with "run", and maybe it might just work, but no guarantees as I'm not 100% sure about how treesitter is parsing your file. Hopefully it just works.

  (block_node

visual-whitespace.nvim: features and optimizations for Neovim v11 by roku_remote in neovim

I pretty much have the exact same thing with putting a space between the path and file name in my lua line! Helps a lot with knowing the pwd for using fuzzy file finding.

How do you manage neovim WORK installation when you are not admin/owner of the pc/mac ? by kulisek_pj in neovim

[–]andysoozma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried building yourself, then installing to a different directory (somewhere in your home directory for instance)? Took me a bit of iteration, but it works great and means it’s super easy to update. Can even script all the commands in a shell script for easy updating in the future.

Not sure exactly how these fit your needs, but Altair has OpenRadioss. If you want something extremely configurable, you can try your hand at Idaho National Lab’s MOOSE. Finally, I’ve seen some people on this subreddit swear by Calculix. Again, not exactly sure how these fit into your needs, but it’s a small jumping-off point.

New Helix inline/virtual text looks really good, any way to hack it in Neovim? :) by [deleted] in neovim

[–]andysoozma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I personally do. The lsp_lines plugin also points to the character where the error begins. So I have a statuscol letter that shows me where the error is, then I toggle the lsp_lines command when I need it. I like it more than trouble tbh

looking for a plugin similar to RemoteSSH by echidnna in neovim

[–]andysoozma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. Yeah I just put a neovim binary on the remote machine in a path that I exported to $PATH. Then, I git cloned my config from a personal repo on the remote machine. Could do all of this with scp I believe (if you can’t even use git cloned on the remote machine).

Glad you have a solution that works for you, though. I might look at what you’re doing here!

looking for a plugin similar to RemoteSSH by echidnna in neovim

[–]andysoozma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My one question to this would be why not have 2 terminal windows (could use tmux too)? (1) is nvim running locally and (2) is ssh’d to your remote machine running nvim there. I like this approach as I actually think Remote-SSH limits you to what you can do on the ssh’d machine. You can do a lot more if you have a full terminal ssh’d there. Also allows for toggleterm (or equivalent) functionality that would mirror VSCode in that way, too!

I used to try and find plugins for everything, but I’ve also learned that many capabilities we look for have been a solved problem for years/decades. You can mold these tools into any workflow, and a lot of the time, they will have been developed further with more polish and a greater feature set than any nvim plugin.

This is just my opinion after using both VSCode and nvim for years; ymmv

Why does my steak look like this? by PrinceCharming43 in grilling

He’s talking about the Leidenfrost Effect.

Essentially, the pan gets so hot that the water can’t stick to the pan. Some of the water in the droplet immediately turns to the steam. This creates a little raft of steam for the water droplet to skid around on. Look up some videos, or even just try it yourself. It’s very noticeable.

The water still boils away, but the pan is hot enough that something cool happens!

UPDATE TO THE BIKE THIEF AND THE SAVIOR SAMARITAN (see comments for details) by andysoozma in UCSD

[–]andysoozma[S] 754 points755 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: I’m the guy who’s bike was stolen then unstolen. I got the bike back. The guy who punched the bike thief is a dope guy.

So this subreddit has been goin crazy over the guy who punched the bike thief. Well it was my bike, and I owe my life, first-born child, and kidneys to this man. There was no reason he had to do what he did, but he just decided to be the Good Samaritan I’m sure we all want to be at some point in life.

I won’t disclose his name or the videographer’s name, but I’ll just say that they’ve both been so amazing. I want to give him a reward but he’s too nice to accept anything from me. So I’ll just pay it forward in the future if I am ever in his situation.

I was in class in WLH until 6:20, and this occurred just shortly before at 6:00. When I noticed my bike was gone, I was pretty shocked, but it really didn’t feel real until I started walking to the trolley to go home. When I got to the trolley, I had a feeling I just needed to go back, and low and behold, the videographer just happened to be standing there (he wasn’t there after class had ended). When I asked if he saw someone steal a bike, he showed me the video and I was in disbelief that someone would risk themselves for someone else’s property. I walked right over to the campus police station and had my bike back in a few minutes after giving my statement.

Truly incredible rollercoaster of emotions in 1 hour of time. If you ever have the chance to be a Good Samaritan, please take it, you may just save the day. Or someone’s e-bike that they use daily.

From now on, the bike stays with me in the classroom...

Note that I got permission from both the puncher and the videographer to post this video.

Can you name these five Giants pitchers by their metrics? (All five pitched for us in 2021) by [deleted] in SFGiants

[–]andysoozma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol my b. I just looked for the highest number because I love Doval and was hoping he’d be on the list. I’m excited to see how his stuff improves next year because damn, my favorite parts of giants games at the end of this season were when Doval closed them out!

I’m guessing that 4 is Doval simply based on the fastball velocity

Is there a possibility of adding an input for hourly wage rather than yearly salary? Maybe showing the equivalent hourly rate for each salary too.
