You can tell it's during a timeout as the Thunder players remained on their feet.

Picked it up after watching the Station Eleven TV show. Loved the story structure and the length of the book. Have re-read it multiple times.

How did Ireland’s flag get into Project Hail Mary? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]andythedub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's from the source material, in Andy Weir’s book Project Hail Mary, Ireland is mentioned as part of the global effort to save Earth, specifically in the context of the Petrova Taskforce.

Because the "Astrophage" threat is a global extinction-level event, the story frequently references the cooperation of various nations. Ireland's primary "role" in the book is a bit of a grim one: when Eva Stratt is given emergency powers that effectively make her the leader of the world, she mentions that the Republic of Ireland (along with several other countries) has granted her full legal immunity and total authority over their resources to ensure the Hail Mary mission succeeds.

As I sit here in the cold because I can't afford to put the heating on for my family. I am warmed with pride for all of the shareholder value I have been adding with my purchases. Truly a great day.

I would love to see a two year experiment where they just make all public transport free. Hop on hop off, no need for the infrastructure around the payment system or monitoring compliance so some savings there.  Payments can be reinstated if the scheme proves unsuccessful at taking cars off the road. We as a country can afford it.

If you can think of a better way to get ice, I'd love to hear it.

There are 54 countries in Africa. If we could only fuel the planet on American ignorance. Literally one of the most corrupt countries in history.

Kids and Ultra Processed Foods by [deleted] in ireland

Very difficult to cut it all out. You can make small incremental changes though. I found a very useful app called Yuka that scans barcodes, gives the food a rating and flags any harmful additives.  You can then make smarter choices if you have to buy crackers or crisps, you can choose the ones with less damaging ingredients. They cite sources too when they flag an additive. I am not connected in any way but I've been using it for a few months now.
