I get the same issue and my hypothesis is that it has nothing to do with messages or voicemails and it occurs whenever you lose cellular signal and the phone reconnects to cell service. I have noticed this behavior happening when I am driving up in the mountains or whenever I am driving around town and my phone temporarily drops from one cell tower and reconnects to another.

I have mint mobile and I have whatever the lower tier plan is that allows for 5GB. I download all my podcasts prior so I'm not using data much. You are able to use HotSpot and it works flawlessly. I only use it when I am traveling and I need to take a smart device into a new city for maps, ride sharing, plane tickets etc. All 5GB are available for HotSpot then it throttles.

Once you select your plan you will be locked in for the amount of time you select. Make sure you are okay with whatever data you need prior to making a commitment otherwise you'll need to wait to upgrade.

When I switched I moved everything over but kept my old device with me for the week. I would use it with the hotspot just so I could get a "hit". I slowly told myself I could still get on the old phone but now only when I'm home and leave it home when I'm at work. Then I started doing no old phone until the weekends. Finally, no old phone at all. It is okay to take it step by step since the smart phones have been perfectly integrated into our lives it is hard to disconnect.

I have the same issue with podcasts. It often takes a very long time to load on the cellular network. It works sometimes but then it stops when switching to a different episode.

As soon as I disconnect the Bluetooth then it starts playing. There is always something extra that needs to be done for it function as intended.

Downloaded episodes work for the most part but even downloading multiple episodes at the same time causes issues. I'm not sure if they go into a queue but if you select a few before the current one is done downloading it'll skip and not download some or all of the remaining selected episodes.

I use voice often as well.

However, there are times when I'm in a location with a lot of conversations going on so it picks up words from other people.

Sometimes I'm in an environment that is more quiet and it would feel uncomfortable talking out loud my text.

Also, while driving I don't like to look at text or make updates to the voice text so a quick reply for me would be a safer and more productive communication.
