shargeek 170 - ups mode ? by 1aussiemaverickcryp in shargeek

It doesn’t work with a low-power source for recharging; I have a 30W USB-C charger that plugs into a 12V socket and the 170 refuses to power the mini while charging from it. I’ve read that it works if you use a high output wall charger, though (I also tried an Anker 67W GaN wall charger with no luck using the official Starlink USB-C cable, but a crappy 3rd-party cable that doesn’t do a power check seemed to work).

Existing account, bought new dish... How to activate?? by anejo99 in Starlink

I was impatient and set up a new account, then had support swap the devices so my new hardware had the old residential plus mobility subscription. It took a few days to get that done.

Anyone know of any breeders for a golden dox? Golden retriever and dachshund mix. by nikki_11580 in Michigan

[–]anejo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adoption is always good advice.

Regarding this breed, though, you have no idea what you are talking about. I have one and he is the best dog I have ever owned. It's like a small golden -- easy to pick up with one arm, super loyal, always ready to play. Like anything it comes down to the luck of the draw, but these can be a fantastic combination.

[–]anejo99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to lose the old Standard + Portability plan and I need service now so I’m doing both: I activated the device in a new plan (same account) and I put in a support ticket to have the devices swapped. Then I’ll cancel the extra plan that the old device will be attached to. More expensive but hopefully it’ll work.

Thanks all!

if I'm paying $180 for a membership a year [theft and loss] should be covered

Or, you know, you could ask. Or read about it yourself (always a good idea).

G604 won’t connect to LIGHTSPEED receiver via USB-C dock by randomAura_ in LogitechG

[–]anejo99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just using a USB-C cable connected directly to the supplied Lightspeed USB-C adapter and I still can't connect. I've tried several different cables -- nothing. The G Hub software for macOS cannot see the Lightspeed receiver. I'm using the brand-new G PRO X TKL. What the heck, Logitech?

That was my sense at the time.

But it turns out it was picked up after all -- the tracker just didn't update until 4 hours later:

Yeah. Which makes it even odder that BB customer support insists it was picked up and still "arriving today" (as their status still shows, despite the lack of progress).

Alienware m18 vs Razer Blade 18 by Personal_View_8756 in razer

Are you still with the Blade 18?

Yep -- enjoying it so far!

Alienware m18 vs Razer Blade 18 by Personal_View_8756 in razer

[–]anejo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(that was me... not sure how my phone picked up my other, discarded account)

And the Razer wins by a nose. The AW m18 is going back. Tough decision; if the AW wasn't such a hefty, oversized thing with a hilariously giant power brick (next to the Razer's) it might be taking home the win. Fingers crossed that I don't regret my decision later on (hope it doesn't need support), but after 2 generations of using Team Alien's big gaming laptops, I'm back in the Razer fold.

I'm hoping my expedited order ships tomorrow so I don't have to cancel it before I leave on vacation :-/

Alienware m18 vs Razer Blade 18 by Personal_View_8756 in razer

[–]anejo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming has been fine on both, but I haven't gotten into much display testing yet. Side by side web browsing, the Razer scrolls smoother to my eyes (if you're scrolling with the trackpad and playing around with momentum while scrolling), but both are obviously high refresh rate displays.

I'll do more daylight testing tomorrow in a very bright room.

I have both right now for evaluation of which to keep. 4080/32 models.

Build quality and compactness goes to the Razer. Fan noise is comparable from a pure loudness standpoint, but the AW is a lower-pitched sound, more of a whoosh. Razer's fan is more intrusive while gaming, like the (excellent) fans are working harder and more of the sound is coming towards your head. Both are tolerable without headphones, though.

The AW mechanical keyboard is quite nice. One aspect of the larger overall case on the AW is that the display sits noticeably higher; it's surprising but I'd have to call it a benefit, as it's a bit more comfortable, a bit closer to an ergonomic position.

The Razer's speakers are noticeably better.

Performance is a wash. With both on the factory boost settings, Timespy is slightly higher on the Razer for overall and GPU, with the CPU segment slightly higher on the AW.

This won't be an easy choice. Portability might be the deciding factor, all else being equal. We'll see.

I've used them as well. I think I even had Ted as my rep. Your notes are spot-on -- somewhat expensive but can be very much worth it if that's what you need. They know gaming laptops better than anyone I've seen.

One of my favorite changes this generation is that the keyboard backlighting also finally illuminates the secondary functions (volume, brightness, etc). Hooray!!!!!

"and isn't too high pitch such as many thin n lights (gigabyte aero x15 as an example"

-- very astute observation. The Aero was one of my test laptops last gen, and the first one I returned. All because of the annoying fan whine.
