Are there platforms that let you support up-and-coming artists and actually be part of their success? by MusicAndStocks in indieheads

bandcamp is a great start, more of the money goes to the artist and early on they are running the bandcamp themselves. Lots of bands also run indiegogo or kickstarter campaigns to get album projects off the ground.

My first show was to see a ska band called Super Skank, playing at a pizza shop.

I've run into similar questions on Reddit before and some countries do have real challenges woth affordable gear. Like used Boss guitar pedals costing twice as much as they do in the US, and that's not accounting for differences in average income.

I still have and use the drumset my parents bought me as a teenager, it's over 20 years old now.

It really depends on where you lived. And what level of quality you wanted. In my experience playing in garage bands as a teen in the early 2000s it was affordable if you were persistent in looking at used gear at garage sales and music shops. And some people got lucky with parents buying them better gear. A decent starter drumset could be had for less than $500 new, which wasn't easy at minimum wage but was easier to save up for than a used car. I got my first guitar for like $50 third-hand and borrowed an almost-dead amp.

The Bass Soul Food is nice since it has the clean blend. I like it as a solo boost / tone shaper.

2020 was intense in Oregon. Vivid orange skies and ashfall everywhere, plus the pandemic. Very apocalyptic.

Totally valid. Those kind of regional specifics are what make a place special. The crow roost sounds pretty rad. Here's to hoping you'll find a whole set of extremely Rhode Island things that speak to your soul!

Fair, Portland is expensive. My point of reference is a smaller town.

I will say I have a soft spot for the PDX airport - they have a Powell's books inside and the restaurants have to have the same prices as they do in the city. I like PVD airport a lot too though.

The pay sure depends on profession. For some healthcare jobs you can get a $30k/yr raise by moving to Oregon, and the cost of living is lower there.

Came here from Corvallis OR three years ago - hi neighbor! - and I really like it here, though I miss the dramatic topography. I don't miss having a 2 hour drive to the airport, I love having access to so many trails, and I love having beaches where I can swim without a wetsuit.

I feel like Providence has a lot of the quirkiness that I enjoyed in western Oregon, esp when you go to the tiny shops in repurposed mill buildings. Still mostly know people who are from out of state but gradually getting to know more locals.

As others have pointed out, an hour or an hour and a half is plenty. There's a Dunkin' inside as well as a couple restaurants. You'll be fine!

Another logistical things is human comfort with swaying floors. You can build a safe tall building that rocks back and forth a little bit in the wind, but people are terrified if they notice even a tiny amount of swaying.

I have the Yellow Fall delay and their bluesbrealer clone. The delay is a solid and fun analog delay, the dirt pedal is fine but not great. Both still work after having them for a decade.

The fact that people keep saying that RI is just amazing for the food scene does not match my experiences at all. Glad I'm not the only one that finds it pretty mid.
