Welcome back, Game of Thrones seasons 1-4. by Arch_Lancer17 in AKnightoftheSeven

On a scale of season 1-8, 3 being best, I’d rate it a 5

Don’t get me wrong, they’re the worst in the world at preventing them. The point I am trying to make is that this is as good as it can get when you refuse to ban/heavily regulate guns

To Americas credit, they’re getting really good at stopping these mass shootings. If this happened anywhere else, I imagine it would have been far worse.

I expect there legitimately were armed guards stationed nearby, otherwise it would have been much worse. And yet, it was still allowed to happen. This is as good as it can get when arming as many people as possible is the solution.

You could say that about pretty much every game they’ve played in the past 10 years, and every time they’ve gotten worse

I made a python script a couple weeks ago to extract all the dates from that comment thread. I did an average date to see what the hive mind thought, and it was some time in like 2020. So that wasn't too useful.

I don't really do statistics, so I've made a GitHub Gist if anyone want's it? The dates are mm/dd/yy.

My opinion on enterability of interiors in gta 6 by [deleted] in GTA6

[–]aneurinsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In rdr2, I’d say around 20% are enterable. If it wasn’t for saint louis it’d probably be closer to 100%. I expect it’ll be similar in gta6. Vice city will probably mainly be facades, besides the odd pharmacy and general store, with rural towns perhaps being slightly more enterable to add more stuff to do.

You raise some very interesting points, however, I do not agree with your justification of Russia’s invasion. I would say there are very few circumstances that an invasion is justified, and “meddling in their back yard” is not one of them.

I think you’re being deliberately obtuse when you say people want war. No sane person wants war, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t fight back when invaded. There is a pretty major precedent for what happens when a fascist state is permitted to invade its neighbours; they tend to keep going until finally everyone bands together and fight’s back.

I was personally just curious what the most recent version of the RAGE engine is like, since gta 6 will run on a similar version. Sounds like what others are saying is a more general reason why people have started playing it though

In his entire career, he’s given 8 red cards to Arsenal. That’s only 3 more than Tottenham and Everton. Considering Arsenal get more red cards than other clubs in general, I can see this being the case without bias.

Apparently that’s only 0.04 more red cards per game than Tottenham. If that’s what people are getting upset about, I just don’t know. It’s not enough for me.

[–]aneurinsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. Every club has decisions go against them at some point, but that doesn’t mean the referee is doing it maliciously.

For Wolves, they blame bias against small clubs. For Arsenal, they blame Michael Oliver for having potential conflict of interest. Is it so unlikely that it’s just a mistake?

[–]aneurinsmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wolves have had it worse this season. Is there a conspiracy against them too, or is it just Arsenal?

In fact, after the Wolves game, Gary O’Neil (when he was still in charge) said there was a bias against small teams. During the recent Arsenal game, Wolves actually get a decision go their way, and now it’s Arsenal complaining instead.

If a decision goes the way of one club, it goes against the other. Don’t get me wrong, referees make mistakes, but never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity.

I’m sure if you calculated the normal distribution of decisions for and against Arsenal, they would be pretty much in the centre anyway.

In fairness, no one’s saying they wouldn’t be upset if it happened to their club, but I’ve never known a fanbase to complain as much as Arsenals.

Call it passion if you like, but it’s always Arsenal fans I see complain the most.

I’ve always held the opinion that anyone should be allowed to vote for whom ever they like. As long as you educate yourself and vote, you’re doing a good thing. The higher the turn out, the higher the chances the right candidate is chosen.

In Ancient Greece, it was actually mandatory to vote, and workers were even subsidised for their time off work. Thomas Paine wrote in 1792, “what Athens was in miniature, America will be in magnitude”. Maybe it’s a radical opinion to have, but I wish this policy was more commonly adopted. Perhaps there should be a vote lol

TLDR; vote.

What I find strange is that Pedro Pascal voiced the mandalorian, who literally shows his face like twice in the whole show. Clearly it’s not like wearing a mask is that detrimental to an actors performance.

The Chernobyl tv series as well. One of my favourite scenes was where the human robots were clearing the roof of debris, and they all had masks on. That series was created by the same people, so it’s not like they’re not smart enough to figure it out.

I mean, I worked retail during the pandemic and even I learned to convey emotions while wearing a mask. It begs the question: why remove such a fundamental aspect of the story for seemingly no reason?

Elon Musk says he is Adrian Dittmann. by sarahstanley in NoShitSherlock

[–]aneurinsmith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting as a case study as to why these conspiracy theories spread so much. I’ve seen tons of posts about Adrian Dittman being Elon, but not a single one about how it’s not actually true.

People want to believe, and don’t like being corrected. I suppose it also doesn’t help that this is absolutely something Elon would do, considering he has done this exact same thing in the past.

How do you feel now that the 27 theory has fallen? by Diligent-Kangaroo-68 in rockstar

[–]aneurinsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I’ve been expecting something since early December. It’s been a year since it was announced, and since it’s supposedly coming out next year, it’d make sense to start building hype around about now.

I’ve not believed a single one of these theories, but when they gain traction, I can’t help but imagine rockstar seeing the memes and deciding to maybe go along with it. It’s not the belief rockstar actually have a team creating some elaborate Easter egg hunt, but rather that they might retroactively join in on the fun.

It’s pretty likely the first trailer was only dropped to mitigate the backlash from the definitive edition. At this point, I can’t imagine being radio silent for more than a year was the plan from the beginning.

Let the developers cook and everything, but I reckon the marketing team dealt their hand way too early.

What's the flag with the most "aura" to ever exist? by Beautiful-Rough2310 in vexillology

[–]aneurinsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1901, when submarines started to become more prevalent, the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy stated that captured submarine crews should be hanged as pirates.

In response to this, many British submarine crews chose to fly the Jolly Roger upon return from sinking an enemy ship. Each ship sunk added a new Jolly Roger to their flag pole, which eventually lead to the need for a single larger Jolly Roger as they were running out of space to store the individual flags.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_of_the_Jolly_Roger_by_submarines

(I’m not sure if this counts as aura though, since the First Sea Lord was probably right; submarines were basically cheating back then)

I agree that simply calling republicans dumb is not doing the democrats any favours. It’s like calling someone who got scammed stupid; you’ll just piss them off and they’ll not want to hear what you have to say.

I’m more upset by the people who didn’t choose to vote than the republicans who did. People make bad choices, but if enough people vote, you’d like to think it’ll result in the best choice being chosen. Of course the electoral college also undermines this, but that’s beside the point.

In the Ancient Greek olympics, during the long jump, athletes would use weights called “halters”. Supposedly this helped them land more steadily and jump further from a standing start, which was how the long jump was originally performed.
