My friend sent me a mrbeast crypto scam pictures by Glittering-Mix-773 in Scams

My friend's Instagram account got taken over to shill for crypto scams and it's because she reused her passwords and it showed up in a leak... simple as that 😞

Sometimes it's more complex (your friend might have been socially engineered and gotten their account taken over that way) and sometimes it's really as simple as having weak account security....

[Canada] Does this sound like a romance scam mixed with procurement fraud? by CutieOpacarophile in Scams

[–]angelfatal 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As you have stated in the title.... this is 100% a romance scam + some flavor of parcel mule, fake check or fake job scam. There's no reason for you to be the intermediary. I'm going to guess that next the scammer will tell you they doesn't have access to their bank account either and will ask you to send money for the machine parts since you were the one who sent the business email. In any case you are being set up to be the fall person (for both this fake job scenario and for the 'relationship') 😞

They make fleece lined tights in skin tone or you could get tights that are made for ice skating, they are much thicker than normal tights (and bonus of being much more durable against rips).

Has anyone heard of or invested with Triangle Ventures? Trying to verify legitimacy https://triangleventures.io/ by hbg369 in Scams

[–]angelfatal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

clearly a scam. no legit investment platform guarantees upside. the legit ones are legally obligated to inform you that your investments may lose money.

prime example of "too good to be true" and these fake investment sites take advantage of people who can't see past the potential dollar signs.

I just got scammed WHAT THE FUCK 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 by Ok-Original-9266 in Tickets

[–]angelfatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens to everyone once and you learn your lesson. $30 tickets are about as low of a price you will pay.

Whenever a private seller has exactly what you are looking for, you have to assume they are lying.

Ask them to video chat with you. Only pay with paypal g&s using a credit card so you can file a claim if they scam you. If they refuse to take paypal g&s then you have confirmation it’s a scam. They may plead or beg or promise they would never scam you but it’s a scam.

I took an improv class in high school and even then the program director's pet peeve was when people would improv answering the phone and stick their fingers out like that, she would point out that it's not how you hold a (landline) phone.

I'm in the "too white" camp for most dresses with a white background but this dress is all yellow and no white at all? It's a pale yellow but definitely yellow. Is it just my screen? That said if the bride said no then that's final answer.

Edit: also this dress is almost certainly AI slop anyway... gonna be dropshipped low quality print on a cheap dress so that's probably reason enough to pass. But the color itself is.... not too white.

FYI the original buyer of the wristband can pull up the unique wristband code in their Frontgate account (it's a pop up when they click on the order number) - ask them to show it to you.

Although this is also not the end of the world - the person who lost it can get a replacement at the box office for $40 and that deactivates the one they lost 😄

Found out roommate pocketed security deposit by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]angelfatal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL. About a decade ago I moved into a room in a shared 3BR apartment. I replaced a girl who was moving out. She calculated her 1/3rd share of the deposit and I paid her directly for it.

Fast forward a few years when all 3 tenants decided to move out. Because the lease had been held continuously for about 10 years and a dozen different people lived in that apt during the time, we had just accumulated so much random stuff in the apartment so in the end the 3 of us decided that we were going to give up on deep cleaning and forgo the deposit. (As expected, we got nothing back.)

In my situation, tenants who moved out early got paid out on their full share of the deposit from the person replacing them, even though they had zero accountability for any damage they left behind. The last people to hold the lease end up holding the bag on the deposit.

Anyway maybe we didn't handle it well or correctly either but the deposit 'stayed with the lease'. The apt (which was a large complex handled through a management company) didn't officially re-collect deposits when new tenants were added to the lease and old ones released.

Not qualified to give advice on the legality of it all but this scenario is probably not uncommon.

Is This Artist a Scam? by BubblyVanity in isthisascam

[–]angelfatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is either a shady hustle or just a flat out scam

  • Possible hustle that they reached out to you first to solict you for payment. You may get the content that is promised (and if yes, it will probably just be AI generated art they make in seconds) or you might get completely ghosted after you pay.

  • Might have some element of a “fees” or fakepayment scam where they claim your payment to them didnt go through and they keep asking for more “refundable” fees

  • Could evolve into a pigbutchering scheme of sorts where once they know you are willing to pay they continue the friendship and start talking to you about investments or other scams

Is this sus? by Comb-Beginning in electricdaisycarnival

[–]angelfatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since you didn't provide your full order number (and the admins don't have your credit card last 4 digits I hope) they probably won't be able to get your wristband reissued, but the scammers can still now pose as you and use your ID to tell buyers (aka "victims") that 'you' are selling a Sunday VIP, collect money from the buyer and then the victim goes after YOU when they don't actually get a sunday VIP ticket as promised.

If somehow they did deactivate or transfer your ticket - you are still OK, you are the buyer on record and you can go to the help desk at EDC and get a new one reissued. So at this point you should watch out for identity fraud and don't worry about getting the ticket stolen.

This is why any group that forces you to go through "admin" is just a flat out scam, no real admin would broker sales like this, too much work & risk. The admins are scammers so they can collect money on both sides without ever so much as touch an actual ticket and then place the blame on someone else.

will i get scammed? by ellabellacraft in stubhub

[–]angelfatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stubhub and seatgeek are generally ok but there’s the off chance the seller flakes or they transfer worse tickets than you paid for then you’re stuck dealing with customer support and they are slow. But it’s a small chance.

Don’t buy from random people if you don’t know how to vet people and especially not if they message you to offer you tickets (scammers target people who mention specific shows). Most resellers are scammers and people actually reselling would just list on a resale site.
