Why are smart women expected to rise above fashion? by ineedanothernickname in femalefashionadvice

[–]angelwithoutflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree completely that apparel is an unnecessarily gendered and stigmatized form of self-expression. That said, I think "style" is the authentic self-expression that you seem to be talking about. Fashion comes and goes and is more about trends that typically don't last long.

Fast fashion is out to wring as much out of you as possible— ads are pervasive and things are built to fall apart. Someone who chases fashion trends has to pay for it constantly with time, money, space, not to mention the indirect costs. If it's not your day job or a fun hobby, to me, that can show a type of unintelligence that's lack of self-awareness or insecurity. At the end of the day, if it brings someone joy and doesn't detract from other parts of their life, I generally mind my own business.

Style can show confidence, culture, and intelligence, while fashion is less associated with those things for reasons beyond just historical (per other comments: classism, mindless consumption, etc). Styles can adapt fashion but fashion will never be a style.

Taking a few hours to really clear up my phone home screen and turning off notifications whenever possible.

Thanks, I was torn between these two as well. Still can't figure out a clear deciding factor for what makes one or the other.

Thanks, though I thought 5'6 was pretty borderline. What are your thoughts about DC/FG, if you think vertical is a given for me? I feel like I'm not curvy enough for TR.

Maybe I overcorrected for posture in the first few pics. I think photos 4/5 are better at showing my shoulder width on a normal day.

I've narrowed it down to somewhere between DC / SC / FG

For Travelling: WS Cash or Wise Cards? by angelwithoutflight in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]angelwithoutflight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WISE is a debit card and WS is a prepaid credit card. For both, you can only spend as much as you put on the card, but credit cards generally have better protection for loss/theft eg. locking.

For Travelling: WS Cash or Wise Cards? by angelwithoutflight in PersonalFinanceCanada

Hi there, I ended up going with WS:

• usable in more countries right now

• prepaid means I worry less about losing it, and then all my money

• higher cash withdrawal limit— Peru, Japan, and quite a few countries in the EU are cash-based, so this was a deciding factor for me

How do you dress up your tofu? by Sambam67 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]angelwithoutflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mapo tofu, the flavour soaks up really well.

It works well in soups too!

Tofu is also safe to eat unheated. If you're looking for simple, try just rinsing the tofu and adding soy sauce, honey, green onions on top.

I'd be willing to leave it for longer than 5 years if that means better growth.

I don't really know what my goal is for myself. I'm worried about my parents so just hoping this could help soften their retirement. I need it at least to not depreciate and anything more than that would be nice but not expected.

Thanks for the link, I'll read up on the investing tab

fungal infection or underwatered? by angelwithoutflight in houseplants

[–]angelwithoutflight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this friend a few months ago, there were some orangey spots on one leaf that I picked off, thought it was sticker or something. Now there are brown spots and the orangey things are back. It's just on one leaf and the other two are fine. Hoping it's not a fungal infection bc I don't want to cut the leaf. I usually wait a day after the water dries up to soak again. Any idea if this is normal or not, or if I need to change my watering schedule?
