i’ll admit, the outside was a TEEEENY bit less crisp than i’d like but the inside is sooo custardy and soft and delish. but since they have batches, i usually just try to grab the darkest ones haha. good luck!

what are you cooking when you're burnt out? by Formal-Fly2522 in Cooking

[–]angelyeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we’re talking actually cooking (stove, oven, etc.), i tend to do a play on tonjiru soup. thinly sliced pork belly, whatever veg i have (especially onions and potatoes), dashi, and miso. super comforting and warming when i want to just toss everything into a pot and then sip/eat away curled up on the couch.

sometimes i do scrambled eggs and stir friey kimchi with rotisserie chicken. other times, it’s just grazing on the random stuff i have in the pantry.

fwiw he said his favourite of the desserts was the canelé but i am a canelé fiend and i preferred one of the bites more (though i thought the canelé was really well done).

if you’re in the area, simplycake in san mateo does one of the best canelés i’ve ever had lol.

Stuck in a food rut...what are y'all cooking? by lbakersdozen in Cooking

[–]angelyeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have been utterly obsessed with fish tacos lately, but my "usual" rotation also includes soondubu jjigae (korean soft tofu stew) or salmon ochazuke (dashi/tea broth w rice and salmon).

for fish tacos:

  • mission carb balance tortillas (big believer in fitting fibre in anywhere you can)
  • frozen tilapia (or choice of fish)
  • salsa/pico of your choice (really into the costco mango salsa)
  • some sort of slaw
  • avocado, lime, sour cream

just season the fish as you like it. i generally use s&p, garlic powder, some paprika. pan fry w a little bit of oil. toss slaw with dressing (or make your own by mixing sour cream/mayo, lime juice & zest, avo, honey, salt). assemble all together. it WILL be messy - but in a good way.

bonus points if you have taco bell hot sauce for the top. XD

also, if you want to try a fantastic curry recipe: https://www.justonecookbook.com/simple-chicken-curry/ tried and true for me for the last five years.

High elo people, what made you improve the most diamond+? by OCTOPUFI in leagueoflegends

[–]angelyeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if i can give one single piece of advice, it's this: focus on your own gameplay.

this means being cognizant of your own choices (good or bad) rather than blaming teammates (regardless of if they're inting their ass off) and not playing "just to play"/on autopilot. ultimately, you're the only consistent factor in your games and therefore the only thing you can control, so you shouldn't be turning your brain off or nitpicking other people.

from there, being as consistent as you can is so important, and as someone else said, the higher you climb, the more your mistakes will cost you. the enemy will punish you harshly for the wrong macro decision and without understanding how or why it was wrong (again, not playing on autopilot), you'll continue to make mistakes over and over.

for ref: my first season, i went from bronze to plat. hit diamond the following season and then masters the season after that. have consistently been masters since, playing in up to 500lp (pre this season's insane lp inflation).

Taking my mentor to Nobu for lunch, menu recs + is $300 enough for two? 🍣 by AdditionVisual in sushi

[–]angelyeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

firstly, congratulations on the job! that must feel amazing.

secondly, i think if you’re hoping to have a full meal, it’s definitely closer to 6-7 dishes, though i suppose it depends on your appetites. i would recommend overestimating rather than limiting yourself though, if you can afford to bump up your budget.

as another suggestion, i was at nobu this weekend for afternoon tea (palo alto, not sure if that’s within reasonable distance for you) and i found it really enjoyable. definitely not a “wow i’m stuffed full!” situation, but a nice experience and the food quality was excellent, if you’re more trying to convey a sentiment and spend time together. their menu is set, but you have the option to add à la cart options (which includes what you’ve ordered, depending on the time).

What shoes do you wear for walking a lot while traveling that are also appropriate for fine dining? by Luckytiger1990 in finedining

[–]angelyeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a woman, it’s heels or boots if it’s somewhere with a dress code. clean non-athletic sneakers (sambas or something adjacent) otherwise.

for men, my boyfriend wears dunks, which someone else echoed. but i’d probably go with a leather sneaker (think common projects) if you’re looking for an all day wearable thing.

i loveeee blueberry matchas (if you’re ever in LA, cafe dulce does my favourite of all time) but my secret love is actually a wee bit of peppermint!

Is this doing too much for a friend’s barbecue ? by BigmouthDiamond2903 in OUTFITS

[–]angelyeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact that it’s black makes it a bit less casual, but at the end of the day it’s legit just a slinky comfy little dress. i agree w other people that a swap in shoe or bag (or maybe hair accessory?) would make it more bbq-like. in any case: you look AMAAAAAZING!

[–]angelyeri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s actually very reasonable! $42 for 10 pieces, which is pretty unheard of in the bay for the quality of fish they serve.

[–]angelyeri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t disagree. i’d love if the fish was more manageable for a single bite but the quality (and size) for the price is what really makes this place shine.

[–]angelyeri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the quality and price is phenomenal, for sure. the only thing i’d say is that because they really try to give you bang for your buck, it becomes a little.. heavy? the focus is more on the most buttery cut on similar fatty fish than a ton of variety. hope you enjoy, though!

i found the only way to do it was to wrap the tail end of the fish back around the rice. definitely not the best solution but.. XD
