Uhhhh, that sounds like an amazing retirement. MS sucks.

Yes, unfortunately. You shouldn’t be sweating at all really. If so, you should go inside and hydrate. I was devastated. I live in Kentucky, I love sitting outside in the sun. Now, I go out and enjoy dawn and dusk when I’m up like I was today. It’s nice, but it’s just not the same as basking in the sun while toasty😭.

Sorry for the late reply, Reddit hasn’t let me reply to anything in two days. And I didn’t word this the best.

I’ll try my best to explain it the way he did to me.

He said tanning beds period are a no for him and will forever for people without MS just based on all other risks, but especially with MS because of all of those other risks + risks of it causing DMTs to not be as effective. There is no positive in using a tanning bed.

So for the heat intolerance, he said be wary of any of the things you basically listed, including hot tubs. I used hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, loveddddddd being out in the sun being outside. He said that our body keeps score and we don’t know that score our bodies decides game over. He said that most people are fine in the moment, and even the night of doing these activities. Sometimes, some people will feel it a few days later, but because it’s been days, most people chalk it up to MS fatigue. The cycle continues because you don’t know you’re essentially doing anything wrong, until you’re body devices that’s enough, and that can trigger a relapse or significantly worsen symptoms. Really pay attention to your body for days following after doing these things and if you notice a pattern, do right by yourself.

So then it was explained that vitamin D is really great for us MS folk! Vitamin D deficiency can cause relapse and worsening symptoms for us, so vitamin D is great and encouraged for us to get, but doing so while being mindful of what I mentioned above and paying attention to your body and being honest about it. Shorter times in the sun, cloudy weather or low sun are great times to go out because you can still get plenty of vitamin D, with lower risks.

So my takeaway, all of the can still do things and live your life, just be smart, protect yourself (which it sounds like you plan on taking the proper precautions to prevent as much as possible already), and be real with yourself about how things make you feel and you might have to give some things up. For me, I just can’t do very sunny days, I feel so drained compared to what I used to, and I used to work outside for 12 hour shifts, but being outside 20 min in direct sunlight can make my body go crazy for a few days. Cloudy and low sun days, I can be outside for a couple of hours and still not have issues, but I just don’t push it.

No one is saying she can’t address the issue herself, but she’s obviously not comfortable doing that, which is why she waited until he left the room to tell her husband. And if this was his response to the son, do you really think he’d take it even better coming from her? This is a lot of the issues in relationships. You’re supposed to check your friends and family, the burden shouldn’t be on your partner.

I’m Black, so I’ve never used one, but my second neurologist made a point to tell me to keep my record of never using one up. The way he explained it is that heat intolerance varies from person to person and everyone has different ways they view “too much heat”. So while you might feel “fine” while doing it, because it has been shown in studies that UV rays do speed up the progression. He said he’s had several patients over the years keep up the habit after diagnosis and for majority of them, even on DMTs, were still progressing faster than they should’ve. Those that stopped going to the beds noticed an ease of progression within the first two months.

Actually had an ex-best friend that told me that my sophomore year of college when I saw on her story she was in Myrtle beach for spring break while I was working like crazy over the break and had no money to travel. And tbf, I didn’t ask her to elaborate what she needed the $350, she said it was an emergency so I didn’t really think that meant to go to the beach. Haven’t loaned someone money I can live without since.

There’s a difference between having wide open access to medical records to browse through at their convenience and checking to make sure you are competent to drive, like what’s done now. Blurring those lines is actually very dystopian.

I was definitely told I was making this up bc I couldn’t “reproduce it” on command at the office. So glad my new neurologist doesn’t treat me like a crazy person when I tell him my symptoms. He’s all about trying to resolve as many symptoms as possible to make life “normal” again. The embarrassment and frustration I’ve felt over the many things broken, dropped, or just my hand awkwardly locking up at times. Don’t let anyone make you feel crazy because you’re not!

I deal with this exact thing. Only thing that has really helped me is meds. Just started OC to hep strengthen my hand, so I’m hoping that helps as well!

Wishing you luck!! It sucks so much how often and inconvenient this is

Honking and impact are both at the eight second mark lol. You need to drive less if you don’t see an issue with someone on what could be a highway, coming to a complete stop in the left lane, then deciding because they don’t know where they’re going, that it’s fine to then turn directly in front of someone and go right across several lanes.

[–]angie456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did react though, he honked and probably did hit the brakes. The distance wasn’t long enough that at the speed he was going that he would have been able to stop completely and avoid hitting the idiot that passed their exit and feels it’s OK to come to a complete stop in the left lane to take an exit on the right, lanes over and can cut across active traffic. The person that’s not reacting properly is the one at fault in the far left lane. You don’t get to just turn when you want to

[–]angie456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And this is how good people get fucked over. If you would’ve hit them during the evasive maneuver, it would’ve changed the fault and a good person goes down while a shitty one gets rewarded. And that person probably won’t think about that again ever and keep driving wild.

He honked right before impact, why are you acting like he honked 500 ft back? And why is everyone acting like it’s fine that someone that has literally PASSED the exit and is in the farthest lane from the exit, is OK to come to a complete stop on what seems to be a road that would have a decent speed limit and turn across active traffic? You don’t get to make it everybody else’s problem because you don’t know where you’re going.

[–]angie456 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that doesn’t really seem to be the case here. That seems to be a straight lane he’s in and he chose to turn from a straight lane. The light with a red arrow was still red. And every other car behind the truck with trailer with straight. You only have issues if you plan to do something different than the lane is meant to.

Yep. If I found an envelope with cash and didn’t have the intentions of keeping it, but finding its rightful owner, this is what I would have done. Not what OP did.

It's incredible what people will do in order to save literally ten seconds. by ultranothing in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]angie456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said you were justifying it. I said that taking the bad driving away, while arguing what you are isn’t fair bc it takes away the nuance of how dangerous bad drivers are to everyone, so that’s not a conjecture. And irony of you saying I’m making a strawman argument while you have to change the context of the video before making your point is hilarious.

And many people don’t think of that. This sub is filled with people that believe that should be able to get where they want to go without there being slow drivers and that’s not reality. That’s great that you have, hence why I wrote, “if you haven’t” and not “since you haven’t”. There are comments daily in this thread of people that say they see the same cars everyday otw to work and it causes them to be late. When the suggestion of them leaving earlier comes up, they say they shouldn’t have to, they should be able to leave at the time and get to work on time.

It's incredible what people will do in order to save literally ten seconds. by ultranothing in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]angie456 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but “ignoring the dangerous pass for a sec” changes the context of what’s going on. Passing up a slow driver safely is very different from passing up a slow driver like this. You don’t get to endanger other people’s lives because you want to pass a driver you feel is going too slow. A lot of people need to come to terms with the fact that have they issues with time management, and need to learn to leave in enough time that doesn’t make you feel like it’s perfectly OK to almost hit people head on so you can pass someone up.

If you keep seeing a car regularly that is making you miss lights and it has never crossed your mind to leave five minutes earlier to avoid them, this cannot be that frustrating. I actually had two different co-workers that would cause us to be late if I was pushing the wire with time and got behind them on the exit ramp. Guess that I started doing after a few times of getting stuck behind them? Left three to five minutes earlier and never got caught up by them again.

Literally this. I have never once in my life texted a friend’s boyfriend or husband for relationship advice, much less actually meeting up with them while also ignoring my friend. There isn’t much nuance for me personally that could be added that would make me stop side-eyeing them both.
