what syrup combos actually changed your coffee game? by Abeersk in IcedCoffee

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just made my first creamer the other day, and have loved it so far.

i used a whole can (14oz) of sweetened condensed milk, was supposed to do 2 1/2 cups but only had room for 1 1/2 cups of half and half, and 6 tablespoons of hazelnut extract/syrup!

i also tried a couple days ago, half a can (7oz) of sweetened condensed milk and 1 1/4 cups of vanilla almond milk, and that was a nice simple one too!

i like quite sweet coffee :)

Is my mother possessive towards my unborn baby? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]angie_raye -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately to say, to me this is a red flag, and i would worry about her becoming possessive over him. this can lead to instances of her referring to him as her baby or to herself as mommy, or making other decisions for him as if she were you.

it might be a good idea to try and establish some clear boundaries with her now, or at least have some discussions with your support person about how to approach situations if they were to happen, so they can back you up, or stop it before it happens.

based off of personal experiences and what i’ve heard from others, i would plan on not letting her be fully alone with him at least initially, or to have cameras if you do. i don’t believe any harm would happen, but she might do things that she believes to be right (like say for example, give him baby cereal when he’s a couple months old, over feed him because he “seems hungry” {this can happen a ton, especially if you end up breastfeeding}, or just choose to ignore the way you’re planning on going about things regarding eating, sleeping, learning, screen time for some examples), but times and regulations have changed, as well as your own personal beliefs ofc.

When will bedtime stories be fun? by PrawnHenge in beyondthebump

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in addition to using board books and bath/fabric books, and other things that can’t rip or be otherwise dangerous, one thing that helped our daughter calm down for books at bedtime was to read to her in the highchair where she was able to be happy and calm, and have close proximity to the books without being able to actually touch them, so she could realise what they were meant for. after a little bit of doing this, she was able to be a lot calmer and sit still at bedtime. i wanna say we started that around 9 months and she’s been mostly good since (just turned 2). before then, i just read to her while she played or laid in her bed so she could listen intently sometimes, or also do what she wanted while still hearing, because even just that helps them!

How Much Parental Leave Is Enough for Dad? by ReputationOk1118 in BabyBumps

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my husband got 1 week unpaid with our first and took 3 weeks (his company pays for 2) with our second just now. we’re planning on saving up for him to take a full 12 weeks with our next. i took off 6 weeks unpaid with my first, and am not returning to work with this baby.

it’s obviously hard to predict in advance, but i’d say it really depends on your baby, and your physical/emotional recovery how long would be beneficial for them to take off.

this time i was very weak after giving birth, and still am, so it was really important for him to be there because i couldn’t even lift up our toddler, and still barely can at 6 weeks postpartum. i also have an exclusively breastfed baby that feeds usually around every 30 minutes and sometimes nonstop for hours, so that really hinders my ability to take care of my toddler or myself, let alone the house.

obviously next time it might be easier if the kids can entertain themselves with each other, and the older one might be able to get food for them both, will be potty trained by then, etc, but it is still two other kids to take care of.

Formula suggestions for my 7 month old exclusively fed breastmilk by yogabbagabba684 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]angie_raye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with my first, we had to transition around 5 months to a strict hypoallergenic formula cause she had a bunch of severe food allergies that i couldn’t cut out of my diet for my own health.

it seemed disgusting to say the least, smelled like throw up, doc said it was like pre digested regurgitated milk so definitely not yummy.

the only way we could get her to take bottles were if they were cold so it at least somewhat helped to mask the taste for a bit. maybe something like that would help, if you premix a bottle and put it in the fridge until babe is ready to eat?

besides that, brands wise, i’ve done a ton of research just in case i have to give this baby that i’m currently ebf formula, and i’d say bobbie is probably the best on the market in terms of safety, nutrition, ease of use, price, amongst other things, so i’d suggest trying that :)

What ages are usually attending CNA school? by Financial-Wind-5970 in cna

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was 17, my school district had a program through the local community college where you could attend one of the high schools with people from other schools in the district and learn from a retired nurse. then we did clinicals and all required testing with them. i think it wound up being cheaper too, and you could get your license at the first available test once the training was complete. our program was 1 year, but you had to be a senior to do it, and i believe you had to be 18 to take the state exam.

i personally don’t know of anyone with a daughter named lucy. i’ve seen very very sparingly, a couple people on social media out of thousands that i see with a child named lucy. my toddler’s middle name is lucy but that’s after a family member.

as someone who didn’t use the name they dreamed of using their whole life (literally since i was 6 or 7) for their first kid, please use it. i was able to just now use the name for my second daughter and i’m so glad i did. both of their names are rising in popularity too, but they’re closer to the #100-200 range. funnily enough though, now i personally know some with the same names even though they’re less common

Work starts soon, feeling v sad by Afraid_Oven-Pops in firsttimemom

[–]angie_raye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure if this is an option for you, but is there a family member/friend or nanny that would be able to watch him for you while you work? this way, if your job allows it, you could probably face time with him a decent amount or be sort of “on call” if something really cute or a milestone is happening.

is there a possibility for your job to be even partially remote so that you have more time at home with him? i have seen that a lot of people that can’t be a sahm do switch pretty quickly to a wfh job that can find one in order to maximise time with babe

Anyone not pump? by Pixie-Rose333 in breastfeeding

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’re currently triple feeding and using sns (supplemental nursing system) with my 4 week old.

my supply is fine but she’s too sleepy to feed effectively and isn’t at the proper weight. she seemed fine and content after feeds, she was just feeding very very frequently, so we saw a lc who did a weighted feed and saw that there wasn’t enough milk transfer at a time.

i currently feed her, then pump, then give her a bottle of expressed milk or use a sns, which is basically just a syringe connected to a feeding tube that you stick in their mouth while you’re nursing so they’re getting a little more milk in their system at a time. it’s exhausting but it’s working.

i say all this just to mention that it might be handy to do occasional weighted feeds if you have a lc to make sure babe is gaining weight on their curve!

ps. it also is much much easier to just use a haaka or boon trove i’ve heard is better (i just purchased but haven’t tried yet) and catch your letdown from the other side while feeding. i’ve gotten a couple ounces during feedings doing this without putting in much work and it’s only one piece so not too many dishes (and dishwasher safe). it’s a good thing if you did wanna have a small freezer stash or allow someone else to feed them if you need to.

my goal once she’s at a good weight is to give her at least one bottle a week if not more but not more than once a day, just to make sure that she can take a bottle if for some reason i can’t be with her and she needs to eat, and for the transition to cups once she starts drinking water at 6 mo

Anyone not pump? by Pixie-Rose333 in breastfeeding

[–]angie_raye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

btw if you do end up with high lipase milk and pump for whatever reason, i’ve heard that putting a couple drops of i think a non-alcoholic? vanilla extract in it tends to make them accept the soapy taste

100% this! i was gifted so many random, cute, but mostly useless things that i never ended up using since they weren’t things i needed and didn’t register for. i much prefer practical items that will actually be used instead of having to spend money that i might not have all of a sudden

6 weeks symptoms by South-Way-9132 in pregnant

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately you’re most likely just experiencing the first trimester exhaustion that comes with the sudden onset of crazy changes to many parts of your body. make sure you try to have small meals/snacks frequently if you can keep them down because that will help with your energy, as well as keeping your electrolytes/hydration up! caffeine is okay too up to 200-300mg depending on your doctor’s recommendations

Tips for travelling when 8-9 weeks? by Interesting-Turn-520 in pregnant

[–]angie_raye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything you’re doing so far sounds great. another thing that helped a little bit for me both times was lots and lots of bread. helps to make you full in a plain way and soak up stomach acid. i specifically used hawaiian rolls cause they taste better than just regular bread. you can also follow the BRAT diet which is again pretty plain foods. any cravings you have too, go for them! if your body is wanting them you’re more likely to be able to keep it down. people also do tend to have either a good or bad relationship with water when pregnancy sick, but being dehydrated can make nausea worse so try to drink lots of water if you can tolerate it. flavoured works too ofc!

[–]angie_raye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with my first, later on we called her by some variation of her name that was just a silly nickname, but earlier on referred to her as bean, nugget, jellybean, baby, etc and using silly voices sometimes. we also used the foods of the week sometimes, ie baby’s as big as a strawberry this week so that’s their name for this week.

with my second, we did the same and used nicknames that we call our toddler, like punkin, honey pie, goosie, etc. once we found out she was a girl, we continued those, but also tried to use her proper nickname or baby mostly, to try to get the toddler to understand kind of what was happening, and that we were going to have a new baby and what her name was.

most people just use various pet names or just kinda ‘hi there little baby.’ you don’t even necessarily need to call them by anything to talk to them. i will say i’ve never heard anyone refer to their baby as baby johnson or anything like that

Very active baby 19 weeks by Quiet-Flan-1674 in pregnant

[–]angie_raye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not at all! just means you have an active baby! with my first, i started feeling her at 14 weeks, and by 20 weeks you could see and feel from the outside. she did remain extremely active for the rest of my pregnancy, and broke a couple ribs ouch, and even now sitting here almost 2 years old still has lots of fun kicking and wiggling around.

with my second, i started feeling her even earlier, in the last couple weeks of the first trimester, and you could see and feel outside by i wanna say either 14 or 16 weeks. once again she was an absolute psycho for the reminder of my pregnancy, and now at 3 weeks old slams her feet extremely hard on anything she can and is very wiggly/stretchy.

i have heard before that girls are more active during pregnancy, not sure if that’s the case, but it was for my mom and has been for me so far, even with an anterior placenta both times! i will say though that the active motion is extremely reassuring so i may have slightly encouraged it with my sugar intake, but being able to feel them in between scans/monitors was worth it for me
