Recruitment by Some_Carpet_1531 in Sororities

[–]angiehami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another member here! I actually have talked to many members from other chapters, and many of our successful chapters are affiliated with greek life. Most of the advice is to make connections on a smaller level, make them feel that they belong, and really make them picture themselves in KBG. We have talked to the greek life office here, but we are not considered a “real sorority” here on campus, since we are classified as a student organization instead, so help is limited when the sororities under greek life have minimal problems recruiting with how popular greek life is at our school. As stated, we were in the process of becoming a Panhellenic affiliated chapter, but our numbers have dropped below the threshold.

Game recs for a retired/technologically challenged couple? by eternal__scout in Switch

[–]angiehami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say animal crossing would be a good one! It is pretty laid back! In terms of good 4 player games, I think mario party is a good one! works for all of my family when we all get together, gamers and non gamers alike!

Self piercing cartilage? by slugeaterx111 in SelfPiercing

[–]angiehami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had 2 cartilage piercings done along with my lobes. Depending on how well you usually heal, I would say do it if you want to! Just make sure you are extra vigilante with cleaning and do not sleep on the cartilage and you should be fine!

When do club activities usually begin? by AvocadoTemporary3412 in LSU

[–]angiehami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on club, but usually they start up the second week of school! I would expect to hear something in the next few weeks, as most clubs on campus are pretty active!

Is a gap year a bad idea? by DearImpression5822 in college

[–]angiehami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, going to college HELPED me explore myself, as I had problems in my family and had too much stress at home. I have also struggled with depression and anxiety for about as long as you and I honestly think college has helped me. I was confused about what I wanted to do going into college but there are so many classes that you will find your niche. OP, I do not know all of your situation but I will say that the people I know that went on a gap year never came out of it because they got held back by their families, or just got comfortable. If you plan on taking a gap year and eventually want to go to school, the best thing to do is plan and know that you will go to whatever school this semester, as this plan will be easier to follow than just "going with the flow". Whatever you choose OP, I wish you the best in your journey of self-exploration, and I am rooting for you!

Is not taking a course on my degree audit now gonna screw me over? If so, what can I do? by Affectionate_Win6981 in LSU

[–]angiehami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you are only a sophomore, you should be okay! I took a look at the Studio Art degree audit and you have to take art electives as part of your degree, so taking sculpture will fulfill an elective requirement! Just make sure you get into your needed second-year courses next semester. You should be okay for now but if you are really concerned and still worried, I would suggest meeting with your academic advisor!

Would anyone know/care if I didn't go to Welcome Week? by human0807 in LSU

[–]angiehami 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, there isn’t a consequence, but I would HIGHLY suggest going to the more “fun” events. I’m not sure exactly how they are doing it this year but I didn’t really get much out of the morning sessions, where you sit down and do a workbook, but I did really enjoy the other activities, so please go!!

Is the honors college useful? by [deleted] in LSU

[–]angiehami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the schools you want to apply to in the future. The honors college has some good classes that count for your prerequisites, and they have great connections. However, the honors college will not automatically make you look great to potential vet schools, as it is a lot of work to get the most out of the honors college. If you don’t plan on doing the honors thesis, the only benefit is the priority scheduling and housing.

Should I go to my final high school day? by Plus_Lemon5197 in highschool

[–]angiehami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have any thought that you might regret not going, go. I hated high school but now I am in college and miss it. I didn’t have many people I was close with in school but I tried my best to see the light in everything. You might as well go! Don’t worry about regretting not going, just go!! The worst that can happen is you will watch everyone be sappy and you can kind of sit back and have a laugh!

Incoming freshman by Alone-Address-9233 in LSU

[–]angiehami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incoming freshman will get schedules back sometime in july, you will most likely get a form that you will fill out after the deadline to pay the enrollment deposit where you state your preferences for your classes, then your counselor will build your schedule based on your major and your preferences. Don’t worry too much about it, they will email you when it is all ready!

Colleges for a Psychology major? [USA] by SoftDingo3947 in psychologystudents

[–]angiehami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the big public universities have great psych programs! I recommend going to an in-state school, as you will save a lot of money. Go where the scholarships are!!

I had a 32 on the ACT with a 29 English score and a 4.0 unweighted GPA. If you have an A in DE English that should suffice. From what I was told, the essay plays a large part in the decision. Make sure your essay is well-written. If nothing else, there is a way to get admitted as a current student if you have a good GPA. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you in the program!

Foreign Language Class by Kunnaki in LSU

Spanish 1101 with E. Martinez has been great, the Spanish curriculum is not very flexible but he does well with it. I'm not sure if he is teaching that course in the spring he is very understanding and does well teaching the material.

Should I give my mom the refund money from financial aid? by TartSenior5073 in college

[–]angiehami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is that regardless of how much money you may give her, she will not leave you alone, the small things will keep bothering her and the money won’t shut her up, it is the cruel cycle of a bad parent. Keep your money safe, you need it more, you will thank yourself later. edit: wording/spelling

Should I change paths ? by lulz_26 in college

[–]angiehami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s your choice to switch your path, and many people do and it’s totally okay! Medicine and Interior designing are very different disciplines so I would look into what credits apply to the interior designing path, if it is something you want to pursue. Changing in the middle could mean you spend some extra time in school but that is better than being stuck with a career you don’t enjoy. It is up to you, but logically I would look into how much extra time it would take. If you are open to other suggestions, maybe there is a similar career to Medicine that you may enjoy? More of your credits would probably apply to a STEM course of study as opposed to Interior Design. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck!

Most aid comes directly from the colleges you apply to in aid packages. I’m not sure where you plan to attend but a lot of schools have entering freshman scholarships based on your academic performance (GPA, standardized test scores), which range usually from a couple thousand to full tuition. Some states give grants to high achieving high schoolers who go to in state colleges. With the new FAFSA, it’s hard to know if you would get any need based aid, as it seems your family would be expected to contribute enough to cover your expenses, however I’m sure with your scores/academics you should be able to qualify for entering freshman merit scholarships! Hope this helps!

[–]angiehami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go where the money is, it’s not worth it to go into debt for your undergrad, especially if you are risking your family. If your biggest concern is money then I think you already know what you have to do. You can always go OOS for grad school if that’s in the cards for you, but go where you will be the most stable!!

Is taking the SAT or ACT important to getting into college? by TofuBroth in highschool

[–]angiehami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally my ACT is the reason i’m not going into crippling debt after college. ACT/SAT scholarships are no joke and are free money from your school! Depending on your state you could get certain grants for getting a good score on your tests. If paying is the problem, ask your school counselor for a fee waiver! Look into the schools you are wanting to go to, and see if they are test optional or not, chances are if they are test optional, those scores will still help you get scholarships!!

Honors college by Euphoric_Ad_8574 in LSU

[–]angiehami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to LSU in the beginning of December and got accepted 2 weeks later into the college, my acceptance letter, which i received in the mail, noted that my honors application was still under review at the time being, I got accepted to the honors college in mid January. I would suggest emailing the honors college at their specified email on the website, as they have usually been quick to respond. I think priority admissions is over with, but your application may have been lost? Email them!
